  1. So nice to hear! Congrats!
  2. onion beats radish and peas would probably be a good guess
  3. Something doesn't sound right; my cable comes off the top of my transducer, Are you sure you are reading the instructions correctly?
  4. I have to admit that it kind of rubbed me the wrong way too. I have always worked hard, always tried to give more than I ask for, always tried to teach them that family comes first. I spent 10 years going to my mother's place every morning to make sure she she was ok, had her meds, meals.Oh well, sometimes things just happen and we have to accept it! He doesn't know me and he might even be right, perhaps I could have done a better job of being a parent, could be that I am to blame. Some of the other comments surprised me, some kind of hurt! Am I expecting too much, sort of sounds like it! I guess I thought paying someone $15.00 an hour to do odd jobs around here was helping some one out. I wouldn't expect anyone to come out here for a couple of hours, I have always given or at least paid for a full day of work. Oh well, we all make mistakes, some of us learn from them!
  5. To be honest I have had some wonderful help from many of the members on this board over the years but they all have their own lives to live too and I can't keep asking them for help every time I need something done.
  6. I have been trying to hire someone to help me do jobs around here, nothing fancy, rake the yard, stain the decks, clean the evestroughs..... jobs I just find really hard to do myself anymore! I finally got a guy to come and sand and stain my decks, took him two days, cost me $1250.00. (My bad, he quoted I accepted, I just remember it took me several days to do them last year, I figure it took him about 10 hours). Afterwards I had a few people come to me and tell me I should have asked them, they would have undercut him. Ya, they would have done it for $100.00 an hour! I have been trying to hire help to do lots of little jobs around here, I've been offering $15.00 an hour cash. If they do show up, they spend more time talking or texting on their phones than they do working but in most cases they don't even show up. Finally managed to hire a guy to cut my lawn, takes him an hour cost me $45.00, actually it use to take me two hours and I was bagged so not such a bad deal. Even my own son; he is currently laid off, offered to hire him for a week $600.00 plus we'd spend some time fishing; "sorry dad, I'm too busy, I want to go smelt fishing!". Yesterday I worked 15 straight hours, I make $16.00 an hour and I think I am lucky to even be able to have a job at 70, just doesn't seem right somehow. Time to sell everything, move into a small low maint. place, change the will to leave nothing to the son (he doesn't seem to need or want any help). Old, tired, frustrated!
  7. Thank you so much Brian & Tom, I might just see if I can have a visit this year.
  8. Many years ago I got to know a CO in French River, Harold Cheley. I so much liked and respected that man and the job he did, he was fair, honest, and just a plain nice person. I lost touch with him a very long time ago, don't know if he is still with the MNR or not, I think he was a few years older than I am so he has probably retired. harold was one of the REALLY good guys! I did have a run in once with a couple down here in Keswick when I was coming back from duck hunting. I got back to my car a few minutes before case time and they asked if they could look in my cooler, my bag, kept me talking for about 20 minutes then threatened to charge me because my gun wasn't cased. Then they said they were going to give me a written warning, I lost it on them and insisted they charge me, just then a couple of shots went off just up the shore from where we were and they decided they had bigger fish to fry. But if you think dealing with CO's is bad, try dealing with MTO inspectors; but that's another story!
  9. Do you have a link to that one?
  10. CPH, you are so right, treat them with respect you almost always get respect back, glad it worked out for your partner. Beans, one look at us old farts the last thing they want to do is take us to jail, we wouldn't want to leave; three square meals a day, internet, TV no chores to do, rides to and from medical appointments........... Hey buddy, want to help me rob a bank (we don't actually do it, just say we're going to; never have to worry about paying bills again)
  11. That is wonderful news, I think you owe Mike a beer (or two).
  12. That would be for the Darwin award, I'm in the running for the Magician's award for making something disapear so fast even I can't find it! (I asked Sue to look for me but she said she can't find her glasses and refuses to feel her way around).
  13. Heck I put the dock in this weekend, water went over my chest waders, I'm probably going to have to sit down to pee for another week, my best friend pulled a turtle and won't even stick his head out anymore (Might even have to change my name to "Little Cliff")
  14. No problem Geoff, will hook up later in the week, think I am coming down with a cold, got pretty wet yesterday putting the dock in.
  15. Give me a shout on Sunday 705 928-8899
  16. The one thing you can count on is: if our politicians tell us it is going to be good for us or that it makes sense it is going to cost us and be good for them!
  17. Geoff, we are going to have to get together, you are so much more tech savy than we are and I know you could really help us. Lets try to plan an evening of fishing and I'll pick your brain and show you some of my spots (but you can't show Ernie) LOL. Oh wait, Ernie showed me all the spots I know)
  18. Rick, it's one nail at a time. They ask for the whole box knowing that they will only get a handfull. Next time around they get another handfull. Before you know it they have the whole box.
  19. I just had a really long hard day, I'm sore, I'm tired, you just made it all better! So glad to hear this Brian!
  20. I am really glad I'm 70, it's my kids and grand kids I feel sorry for now! What a mess they are going to inherit!
  21. No problem Paul, actually the water level has come up againsince last weekend, seems they are trying to hold some back to ease up on the flooding down stream. Not at all my friend, my problem (as I am sure yours is) is that now when I wear it I can't see it, the belly gets in the way LOL.
  22. Well I didn't know I was going to get home as early as I did and when I took a look at the calm water and bright sun shine I decided to go putter with it. Took me a few hours because the ice had mover the railway about 4' sideways but it was a rewarding way to spend an afternoon. Kind of thought you might be out crappie fishing today.
  23. Excellent deal as long as there are no serious issues with it. Let us know when you have had a chance to try the suggestions.
  24. OK, never mind, problem solved. Give a stuborn old man a barn jack and a come-along, a beautiful bright afternoon with no wind and a cold beer. The marine railway is now back where is should be and all hooked up and the first section of dock is in so all is good. Many thanks to CPH who offered to come and help me even though he had plans to go fishing, that's a true friend!
  25. Been there, done that! That's why we opted for the refinishing and to be honest with you it turned out so well that a couple of friends have also done theirs with it.
