  1. Well it is an early spring but they are calling for a much colder than normal April and even early May. I may try to get my dock in next weekend if all the ice has broken up which I think it will be. I'll keep an eye on things and let you know what's happening. Regardless, you know you are always welcome in my boat anytime so you don't need to rush at getting yours in.
  2. Welcome to OFC it's one of the best (naw, it is the best)! Been here for (well I can't even remember but 16+ years) and you won't find a better bunch of guys and gals (don't mess with the gals, I got dibs on the hugs). So tell us a little more about you; where do you call home, what sort of work do you do, do you like to cook LOL?
  3. Last night there was perhaps 100' of open water between my shore and ice as far as you (I) could see. This morning there is open water right across the lake in front of our place, plenty of ice both North and South of here. I took a little drive and there are some massive ice flows but right now they are hugging the Western shore. If they are right about the wind direction for the next couple of days we could have a problem. ESE today then WNW tomorrow then back to ESE for Saturday. That ice has lots of room to pick up momentum. My marine railway is about 6' North of where it should be, fortunatly I learned a long time ago to disconnect it from the main land so it's moved but not damaged. I think I'll wait another week or two before I re attach it LOL. Manjo39: I know you didn't ask but the answer is NO, this would not be a good weekend to put the dock in. Had a quick look at your place today, there is still some ice against the shore line which is a good thing, it will act as a buffer if the lake ice does come back in.
  4. Any time a man stands up for "the people" I will stand and salute that man! I truly feel that like many good people before him he was taken far too soon!
  5. Very well said! I'd have loved to see him as Prime Minister!
  6. Did you find a source for your hub seals? I am afraid I struck out.
  7. Skyline Transport 66 Guided Ct, Etobicoke, ON M9V 5G2 (416) 742-4555 Does this help at all?
  8. The sad part is that it is often seniors that fall victum to these things. Most of us grew up in a world where people helped people not people lied to and scamed people. Most of us grew up trusting others and because of that we tend to think that other people think the way we do.
  9. I'll get Sue to dig out our notes on NS & PEI, we had such a wonderful time it was actually hard for us not to just go back. While we loved everywhere we went I have to say PEI was probably the best for us, we got there and didn't want to leave at all. Fishing for cod and mackerel (and I caught plenty $45.00 for a half day and they cleaned them and everything. The clam digging excursion was a little expensive, $75.00/person but they took us out and we spent a few hours digging clams, then went back to their house and had a wonderful dinner, fresh steamed clams, clam chowder, (there was other food too but I can't even remember all of it, I ate so many clams I could hardly walk LOL). We found a really nice little motel right in Charlottetown was about $75.00 a night, clean quiet, beautiful gardens, 5 minutes to Walmart........ 1 minute walk to Tims.
  10. I can't believe all the help we are getting on this, thank you so much! This is another one we'll be printing out as part of our pre trip planning package. It really helps to have the "go to" and the "DO NOT go to" advice!
  11. I used to work for Barrett Marketing here in Lindsay building the EZ loader trailers. I believe that Barrett closed the trailer Mfg. a few years ago but I'll check today and see if they still have a distribution or parts dept. here.
  12. Thank you so very much for this, I really appreciate it! I've printed it off along with the map and it is now part of our pre trip package!
  13. Sorry, where is "Local"?
  14. Wow, I have seen it bend 8" I beams like they were wet noodles! I feel so sorry for those people that have their property destroyed by it! When it moves, nothing stops it!
  15. Ice is solid in front of my place again this morning as for as far as I can see in any direction. there was a bit of open water at the shore yesterday but that froze over last night and I could walk on it this morning (only about a foot of water under it LOL). Looks like there could be a lot of damage over on the other side of the lake near Betty's Bay area. I can see the ice piled up on the shore over there so it has to be 6-8' high at least!
  16. Wow, thanks for the info. No apologies necessary and congrats on the baby! As for the hiking, that isn't going to happen unfortunatly, I'm 70, Sue is 69 and neither of us can do a lot of walking anymore. I am surprised that the camp grounds are so reasonable I wonder if driving there and then renting a small trailer would be a cost effective way of doing the trip? Anyone tried it?
  17. Sounds like a nice trip, what time of the year did you do it? What were the typical camp ground costs like?
  18. :rofl2: Yup, when you are as old as we are you don't have to do all that "fooling around stuff" you know exactly what she needs and wants!
  19. I guess I'm just surprised at the cost. Heck I hear fishermen are getting $5.00 a lb or less for lobster but it costs $3000.00 a month for a motel room. Oh well, it is what it is LOL. I'm going anyway!
  20. WOW, I can't beleive the prices of accomodations even in some of the "out of the way" places, motels and B&B's all seem to start at about $100.00 a night and go up from there. Even tried looking at some for the month of July and anything decent was around $3000.00 for the month. Figured the cost just in gas for a motor home at about $1000.00 each way (more if towing a car) plus the cost of the ferry, camp grounds....... There has to be a better way! We don't need much, clean, quiet, safe, effeciency suite would be nice. We are thinking we'd like to move around a bit and get to see different places , maybe spend a week or two in different areas and I was thinking July and Aug. Who else has done this and what did you find!
  21. Oh would I ever love that! Where on the Northern tip?
  22. LOL, Sue and I did head out three years ago, got as far as PEI then a storm destroyed our boat house and we had to come home early. We did have a wonderful time, we visited countless light houses, just wandered the coast, stopped in little villages, went on one clam digging excursion, I even got to go fishing for 1/2 a day and caught cod and mackerel, It was our best vacation ever. I looked at the tourisum website but I know that there are several members on here from NFLD that can help us narrow down our search and give us insight into places to stay, eat, hang out, and avoid the tourist traps. Fancy restraunts to us: Anything I can't walk into wearing sandles and shorts and feel right at home.
  23. Thanks for the kind words but I can assure you I am no Saint LOL. It just so happens that I live close enough and have the resources to be able to help out. I have no doubt that almost anyone on this site would do the same in similar circumstances if they had the opportunity.
  24. So Sue and I have decided that this summer we are finally going to get to NFLD. We had thought about doing the trip in a motor home but want to explore other options as well. Both of us are enamored by the beauty of the pictures we have seen of some of the coastal villages, the colors, the settings and that is something we’d like to see. We aren’t into museums, art galleries, fancy restraints, neither of us can walk any distance so hiking trails and walking tours are out of the question. Here is what we would like in no particular order: Digging clams (we’d need some help in knowing where, what, how, when……) Catching crabs (again, lots of help needed LOL) Fishing for cod, mackerel, (anything) but I’m not after trophies, just want to spend some time on the water and catch some fish. Party boat style fishing is fine with me too. Oh, and lobster, lots of lobster LOL. Smaller communities where we could rent an apartment or efficiency motel unit, visit the pier and/or the pub; just hang out and absorb the atmosphere. Thoughts, ideas, suggestions would be very welcome!
  25. Waiting to hear an update!
