Does anyone have a list of things to take on a fly-in trip
Big Cliff replied to Big Cliff's topic in General Discussion
We are going with Mattice Lake Outfitters and will be going to Vick Lake. Neither of us drink very much so booze won't be a big part of our cargo. We might take a mickey of brandy and perhaps one of rye but that would be about all. I bought some water purification tablets and my son has a "life straw" system so we aren't going to be flying in a lot of water either. Apart from 10 lbs of potatoes, 3 lbs carrots, 3 lbs onions, some peppers, 2 lbs bacon, a couple of nice steaks, some chicken, some ground beef, a couple of dozen eggs, cheese, snack food (and a few odds and ends) everything else flower, sugar, bread, pancake mix and bisquick will make up the bulk of the rest of our stuff. I hear you on the tackle, my tackle box probably weighs close to 50 lbs, 20 lbs of that is mostly sinkers, big heavy sinkers which I would never use for walleye. I will be taking a good selection of jigs, a few choice crank baits, a couple of spoons and a few spinners but that's about it. I'm not too worried about us being over weight but I am trying to make sure we don't get there and go "oh crap, we should have brought" LOL. I've picked up a lot of good tips so far but I am always willing to learn! Our camp is quite remote, as close as I can tell there isn't anyone within about 25 miles of us, the camp seems to be well provisioned, propane stove, hot and cold running water, fish fryer, two freezers, -
I have tried them all, fluro, braid, fluro leaders...... I ended up going back to mono, works just fine for me!

Wow thank you so much, those are both really great lists and covered lots of items we hadn't thought of. Much appreciated! -
Several fishermen staying at the Comfort Inn here this weekend, any of our members?

Over the years I've found/been given many lawn mowers/trimmers..... that people no longer wanted for a variety of reasons. The ones that could be fixed up (reasonably) I fixed and sold basically for the cost of repairs which in many cases was only a couple of bucks. The ones that weren't worth fixing I would tear down for parts and any scrap I would take to the local scrap yard where I would get a couple of $ for it (usually about enough to cover the cost of my gas to get it there) but at least it wasn't going to land fill. You could just put it out beside the road and someone that collects scrap metal will likely pick it up.

I'll try tomorrow, just finished working 54 hours this week, I'm too tired to try to figure out how to post pictures right now -
About a week ago I ordered some jigs from Bruce, I wanted them painted slightly different than the samples, and let him know what I was looking for: 7:00 am this morning his son Rob pulls up at my door to deliver my jigs, (turns out Rob was going fishing over in Bobcayegon this weekend so he thought he'd drop them off to save me the freight). I was headed out the door to go to work so I just set the box on my coffee table. I got home a few minutes ago and anxiously opened up the box; OMG they are fantastic! The colors are exactly what I was wanting, the quality is exceptional, I couldn't be more pleased! Bruce, thank you again for the wonderful service and a lure I just know is going to put a ton of walleye in the boat! Owe you one! Big Cliff

Wow, well done and thank you so much for sharing! -
I have a "water detector alarm" that can be set up to dial a phone # if the alarm goes off. I bought it about three years ago from Home Hardware so I would never be caught with my basement flooding (after a water heater burst and flooded the basement LOL.) It's a good one, I paid about $250.00 for it but when we sold our house it wasn't included. If you want it, you can have it free. Won't fix your pump but you'll never be caught with your basement flooded again. PM me if you want it and we'll arrange to get it to you.

Anyone want to sponser a guy and his son?
Big Cliff replied to Big Cliff's topic in General Discussion
That would be wonderful!!!!!!!!!!! -
So please give me some insite; I have never been to one of these "tackle swaps" (I know, stupid right)! My kind of tackle swap has always been when a friend drops over: Hey is that any good? Here I have a couple of them take some"! Why would I want to attend? What can I contribute? what is the objective? I know, I know, old man still learning LOL.

As some of you know my son and I are going on our first fly in June 24 to June 29th. We will be going to Vick Lake which is situated North of Armstrong and we've booked with Mattice Lake Outfitters, one of the recommendations suggestions by Mike. Apparently it is about 78 NM north of their air base in Armstrong so it's remote enough. We will be fishing walleye and Northern pike with our primary focus being on walleye and numbers. The lake is tea stained and is known for large numbers of walleye in the 2-4 lb range and pike up to about 25 lbs. It's a private lake with only one camp on it so we are expecting a stellar 5 days. Both my son and I are experienced fishermen, I guided on the French River (weekends and holidays) for many years and my son lives in Noelville, fishes that whole area and has for many years. We are pretty good fishermen so I expect we'll do quite well. Now, I am not asking for (or expecting) anyone to contribute to the cost of this trip, I have already put in the necessary number of hours to cover that. What I am wondering is: would anyone be interested in contributing products and/or merchandise in return for a detailed review. Rain gear/bug spray/water purification/plastics/jigs/anything that might be needed or appreciated by a couple of guys in a remote situation for 5 days. In return I would provide an "Honest detailed report on their product", the pros, the cons, suggestions. My report will be posted on here and on Face Book and available at no charge to anyone that does decide to provide a product for testing. Anyone interested? Please email me at [email protected]

That's more in my budget for something I hope I won't need too often

Listen closely to some of the advice on here because it has years of experience to back it up and it all makes good sense. The one thing you are lacking right now is the experience and that will only come with time. Right now I think your best bet would be to buy from a dealer, someone that has checked the package out and is prepared to give you a warranty with it. Then, before you buy, check out the dealer, if they have a good reputation then you are probably safe! You might pay a little more buying from a dealer but their prices are negotiable and the piece of mind you'll get might well be worth the extra security.
