  1. Thank you so much for the recipe, looking forward to trying it out: Sinker you got me drooling all over my keyboard and it isn't even 6 am yet LOL.
  2. Well first of all tell your son "thank you for his service" from at least one Canadian, I appreciate that the men and women of the US military also do a lot to help protect Canada. As for a fly-in fishing trip, my son and I just spent a lot of time with Mike's help looking for the "perfect" trip (for what we want); seclusion, comfort, great fishing (we wanted mostly walleye and pike). There were less expensive places but this one has exactly what we were looking for, hot and cold running water, fully equipped, and no one else around. In all the time I spent checking I couldn't find even one slightly negative review on them (and believe me I have read everything I could find) We ended up choosing Vick Lake but there are plenty to choose from here is their link:http://www.walleye.ca/ We are going June 24 to 29 and counting down the days already. Hope this helps!
  3. Don't see your fish cake recipe in there or jigs dinner for that matter :-(
  4. Oh you know me, I love to cook, tonight it's mustard maple glazed salmon, lemon roasted potatoes, asparagus with a garnish of French fried onions, and an apple crisp for dessert. But my favorite is good old fashion down home recipies like jigs dinner and such things
  5. Can I have your fish cake recipe please
  6. Geez Beans there aren' a lot of choices and I don't like either of those. I dealt with Mechanics on Trent last year and was very impressed with their honesty. They are really busy though and you might have to wait your turn.
  7. You are right, it is a crock: rules written by idiots that have probably never done anything with their lives but tell other people what they can't do because they might have a bit of fun!
  8. Today it was cinnamon $3.99 on the shelf rang through @ $4.00, lady at customer service looks at me like I am stupid and said "it's only a penny, it rounded up" I just smiled and said " no mam it's $4.00 in my pocket, thank you very much."
  9. A couple of months ago I took over the grocery shopping duties (or at least a good portion of them), things were getting a little harder for Sue to manage especially when there were heavier items involved. We do a lot of our shopping in Loblaw's here in Lindsay because it is one of the biggest stores locally. So one day I run in to pick up a couple of items, get to the cash, she rings them through and I pay for them. As I am walking away I think " that doesn't add up, it should be less than that" so I checked my receipt. Three of the 4 items I had just purchased scanned through at higher than the price on the shelf. I mentioned it to the cashier and she told me to go to customer service. Customer service was wonderful, they confirmed that the items had scanned higher than the price on the shelf, gave me all three items for free. Apparently their policy is "if an item scans higher than the indicated price they will refund the difference up to $10.00 per item". In the case of something like a multiple ie. 3 for $6.00 but they ring through at $2.49 ea they will give you the first one free and you only pay the proper price for the other two. Almost every trip I make now I find something that saves me money, today it was Club House Tempura batter, price on shelf $2.99, scanned at $3.29, yup, got it for free. The other day is was pickles; Price on shelf $2.99, at the end of the isle, same pickles 2/$6.00 (like that makes sense) or $3.79 for one. Yup, one jar scanned at $3.79, got them for free. I have also found CTC is wonderful for doing that sort of thing too so: You want to save money, PAY ATTENTION!
  10. Very impressive!!!!!!!!
  11. Thanks guys that's kind of what I gathered from reading what I could find but thought it better to ask than find out at the last minute.
  12. Do I still need an outdoor card? I have gone on line and spent over an hour looking and reading but I'm still not sure. For starters I'm 71 so I know I don't need a fishing license anymore and I'm probably not going to be doing any more hunting, so do I still have to get an outdoor card to go fishing? I need to know for sure BEFORE I go on this fly-in.
  13. I have done a ton of DYI projects and the one thing I learned is GET A PRO, they are worth the money! In this case I'd be calling Korber
  14. Check on the availability of potable water, one would assume that with hot and cold running water the water would be potable, not always the case! I just picked up some Aquatabs for our trip in June. I'll be interested in seeing your report when you get back, enjoy!
  15. Personally I would go with the Toro, I find Honda really good but over priced, JD; well a lot of their stuff now comes from off shore and the quality isn't what it use to be but the prices are still up there.
  16. Well if you are going to have it inspected by a marina then you would be paying for it however that would be money well spent. You don't have a lot of experience with boats so even doing a water test in your case wouldn't really tell you much and you could easily miss a problem. If a seller won't let you get it checked out, walk away.
  17. Wow, well done! I really like the way you laid things out! I truly hope you have better success in the future, it's funny how subtle differences can have a huge affect. Several years ago we bought a place on Sturgeon Lake in the Kawarthas. A good friend of mine and a local resident always did a "buddies weekend" on opening weekend where they rented a cottage, drank a lot, fished a bit, and had a good time. They ended up fishing about 250 yards from our dock, a "hot spot" known to them for many years. Anyway long story short, at the end of the evening they caught 4 or 5 walleye, Sue and I had caught 14 in an hour and a half, missed a few others, and called it quits long before they ran out of booze. Not sure if it was location or intoxication but we sure out fished them LOL. I have been on a few fishing trips where booze was the priority but I much prefer the trips where fishing is the priority and a nice drink at the beginning ( a nice Ceaser in the morning) or perhaps a cold one with lunch and who minds a drink or a beer for a night cap. Finally, 3-4 nights @ around $500.00 I think you are getting just about what I would expect for that (please don't take that as an insult, it isn't meant that way at all). If that is your budget but you want better then save for two or three years and have an epic adventure or do what I did; worked extra hours so I could afford the time off and the additional cost. $1000.00 isn't that hard to make!
  18. Sorry, you posted an answer while I was typing the question LOL And that is the big question! How far do you want to go? My son and I are doing a fly in trip this year and I did a TON of research, the long and short of it was how much do you want to spend! Sometimes the difference of a couple of hundred can make a huge difference in your experience, our trip is costing us $1560.00 ea for 5 days but the service, accommodations, and everything else is top notch. I could have booked less expensive trips but when I started reading reviews on them I might as well have stayed home and fished the Kawarthas. Good luck in your quest and how about posting some of your previous trips so we can get a sense of what you have done and what you'd like to do.
  19. I have started buying a lot of stuff through Amazon and it's saved me a bundle! Printer cartridges that I pay $79.00 a set for at Staples, got them on Amazon (2 sets plus a spare bulk black) $23.00 and they work perfectly. Even my razors, drug store $12.95 for a pack of 3; Amazon $5.25 for a pack of 4 delivered to my door. I haven't had as much luck on Ebay a lot of items I see coming from the US look good but many of them add crazy shipping charges. I have bought some items through Ebay that come from China, never had a problem and saved a pile of money. Bought a fully loaded android box through Amazon, $60.00 (closest thing i could find to it anywhere else was well over $100.00). Be careful though not everything is a super deal: wanted a DeWalt 20v circular saw, best price on Amazon was $179.00, got it on Ebay $107.00 CDN delivered to my door free shipping.
  20. The company I am working for has an opening for an AZ driver, they are looking for someone that has their AZ license but that would like to learn flatbed work. A younger person would be preferred because of the physical side of the job (someone in their 20s would probably be ideal) You would be paired up with experienced flatbed drivers and would be team driving at least until you have enough experience to handle it on your own. There could/would be overnight runs involved so if you have to be home every night this isn't for you. The company has been in business for 30 years, it's a family owned and run like a family business, they treat their staff very well and don't have much turnover. All of their equipment is maintained to VERY high standards, you won't be driving some old beat up rust bucket. If you are interested please PM me.
  21. Hot smoke I assume, what wood have you used, how hot, how long? This my first time doing white fish, I do lots of salmon and trout but I cold smoke them. Right now I have the fillets vac packed and in the freezer until it's warm enough to do it outside (Sue really does love me but she still won't let me smoke stuff in the house (no, not even that )
  22. Now that looks interesting and I just might try it one of these days because I've had a few recipes from you that I still love to do but :dip in tempura batter, deep fry until golden brown and serve with fresh lemon wedges and or tarted sauce sure is a lot easier and I doubt yours will be any tastier
  23. Also, if you are using premium fuel you don't need to put any conditioner in the fuel, in fact I would stay away from it. The other thing that often causes problems is that people leave tanks half empty, think about it: It's a beautiful warm day, relative humidity is lets say 80%, you spend a day fishing or what ever. Now you get home and put the boat away, your tank is maybe 1/2 full but the other half of your tank is 1/2 full of warm moist air. Things cool down the moisture condenses..... get the picture. The best way to avoid this is to fill your tank up before you put it away (goes for almost every thing but mostly equipment used in warm humid conditions).
  24. Love my Simco jumbo perch LOL, firm, clean and fun to catch. If you haven't tried it you have to get an electric filleting knife. A few years ago CPH and I spend several hours crappie fishing, when we got back and went to clean our fish he pulled out his electric and I grabbed my trusty standard filleting knife. Now I have been cleaning fish ever since I can remember and thought an electric filleting knife was just an expensive gadget, next thing I know he is cleaning 3:1 and doing as good or better than I am. The next day I bought one and have been using it ever since. After I've cleaned them I put them in a bowl of salted water and let them sit in the fridge over night, the next day I drain them and rinse them in fresh water, what I don't plan to eat that day I vacpac and put in the freezer. (or put them in a zip lock bag with a bit of water, squeeze out any air and freeze them) I have tried many ways of cooking them, chowder, wrapped in bacon and drizzled with Italian salad dressing, fish crisp (and many variations) but my all time favorite is done in a tempera batter and deep fried, served with some nice fresh lemon slices. I have actually had people that don't like fish try it and go back for several refills. One last hint: I found that some oils impart a taste on anything cooked in them. I went to National Grocers and bought a 5 gal pail of deep fryer oil (liquid shortening). It was only $32.00 for the pail but it does a super job and takes the heat (375°) better than most other oils I have tried. I actually put it in smaller 4L jugs so it's easier to handle and it can be re used many times.
  25. Got a text yesterday from Sinker, he was out fishing and wanted to know if I would like a white fish for my smoker if he managed to catch one; OMG yes, I'd love one! Well sure enough not 5 minutes later I got a text, "got one going to try for two"; SUPER! About 4:15 Sinker comes walking up to the door with two beautiful white fish for me, within 10 minutes they were cleaned and soaking in salt water in the fridge, I'll be prepping them for the smoker later on today. (anyone got a "to die for" recipe for smoking white fish, I'm always looking for something better) Thank you my friend, I really appreciate you thinking of me and taking the time to drop them off to me!
