  1. Their problem isn't speed it's panic! I have run open water on sleds going back to when a 20 hp Kohler was considered a big machine. Throttle open, weight back go straight. If you do have to make a turn do it very gradually. Too often when people realize there is a problem their reaction is to hit the brakes, try to swerve, or jump off. Regardless it's always sad when someone looses a life!
  2. Wow Dan I would like nothing better! And I would love to see your new toy first hand. I am booked for Tuesday out of Tim's with a friend I haven't seen in way too long but apart from that just let me know!
  3. I think you might have it wrong. To the best of my knowledge the OP doesn't have anything to do with any shop in Toronto or anywhere else. You might owe him an apology!
  4. If you ever need a tag along just let me know!
  5. No, sadly I don't have it anymore. Gave my portable to Brian a couple of years back, sold my ATV last fall, gave my sleigh and my auger to my son, gave my floater suit to another OFCR. All I have left is a couple of rods and a bit of tackle. Can't walk too far so that's why I use an operator now. To be honest, it costs me less than it cost to insure the ATV for a year and I don't have to do any Work! Thank you though, I would love to fish with you any time!
  6. Just saw on face book that Tim Hale started putting huts out on the perch grounds yesterday First day I have off work I'm going fishing
  7. Thank you for the heads up! Got my ice rods out of storage yesterday, going to put fresh line on them today and get my ice bag all set up, hope to be on the ice in the next few days.
  8. Thanks for the heads up.
  9. Will pm you this Week!
  10. Thanks my Friend! I never go to any other fishing sites, perhaps I should start
  11. I would really appreciate it if you share your thoughts and experience when you return. I stayed with Anglers Haven years ago and they treated us well but I can only afford one trip a year like this so I would like it to be a good one (mind you any time spent with my son is good time lol)
  12. I would almost think that qualifies you as a farmer LOL. Good on you Lew!
  13. I know this question has been posted before but I'm looking for current information. I'm thinking of getting away for a couple of days with my son and am considering Nipissing. Anyone been out this year, any recommendations for operators. I'm looking for something clean and well maintained/serviced where we can spend a couple of days.
  14. Beautiful Pictures Lew, how many bags of corn do you go through in a winter?
  15. Well this winter is getting old already, I think we've had more "snow days" so far than in all of last winter. The one thing I have been really looking forward to though is getting out and doing some ice fishing with my son! While I really don't like cold weather, it's a necessity naturally so these last few days have been sort of welcomed. I keep hoping to hear "ice reports" especially from reliable hut operators but so far these seem to be lacking. Tonight I heard on the radio that after this brief cold spell temperatures are going to return to normal or slightly above for the rest of Jan. and probably hold there through Feb.. for the heating bills for getting time ice fishing!
  16. Thanks guys, guess we'll have to wait a few more weeks for Simco. Anyone going for crappie on Scugog that wouldn't mind and old fart tagging along?
  17. Talked to my son last night and we are just waiting to hear that Tim Hale has huts out, any reports on ice conditions yet?
  18. Just be really careful, spud step, spud step...... Temperatures have been all over the place and some areas where I would think are safe actually have open water. There is some good ice to be found (4-5") on some of the smaller lakes but it's still hit and miss.
  19. Well I was hoping to make a surprise visit but I just got told this afternoon that I have to be in Trenton to load by 6:30 tomorrow morning so I guess I'll just have to wish you guys well, don't drink and drive, and know I wish I could be there with you!
  20. Well I sure am glad it worked out the way it did for you and your wife, Merry Christmas no matter what else happens eh. Sue had her first heart attack and a quad bypass 23 tears ago, she's 70 now but doesn't look it or act it. She works hard at taking care of herself, she eats healthy and gets plenty of exercise when she can. Quitting smoking is a big first step,! Don't try to do it on your own, go see your Dr. they can help you with Champix (SP) (or one of the other alternatives) and they are covered by OHIP. They make it so easy to quit you won't even know you are. Good luck and if you or your wife (yes it's hard on both parties) ever want to talk to someone that's been there, just say the word! All the best in 2017
  21. Best Christmas present ever!
  22. With all this snow there is going to be plenty of slush, I was up in Haliburton today and every lake is showing that the snow is saturated, a couple of cold nights and that should firm up.
  23. That's the exact same snowblower that the manager wouldn't honor the sale price on for me last Sunday!
  24. Well then let me know what day you are off during the week. If it ties in with one of my days off I can slip over.
