  1. They were gifted to me and I had way more than I could use. I couldn't think of any one that could make better use of them. I'm looking forward to seeing some of your creations.
  2. Last fall when I was at Eagle Lake, the guides tossed our walleye in Franks hot sauce, let the excess drain off then tossed it in Sysco dry batter and into a pan of hot oil. It was so good we asked them to forget about the sides, just do fish. It's not spicy frys up nice and crisp. Since then that is ONE of my favorites although I can't get the Sysco batter as I don't own a business and they don't sell direct to the public so I just make my own.
  3. Maple Leaf Motel in Goderich. Didn't tell us the rest of the place was rented out to a biker club for the weekend. Nice people but they partied all night and we couldn't sleep. We decided to leave the following morning but the manager wouldn't give us a refund for the second night. We later found out they rented our room out to the bikers. Nice deal for them but pissed me off. Never stayed there again. Daytona Beach, almost the same thing happened but we were only there for the one night, found out that many rooms were rented out to bikers, they partied until the wee hours. I "accidentally " hit the car alarm as we were slowly leaving at 5 am. 😊
  4. One of the originals, hope you have a wonderful day my friend!
  5. I just got back from Myrtle Beach but I had to leave quicker than expected because my traveling partner had a death in the family. I was buying fresh jumbo shrimp down there for $8.99 a LB. Oysters $20.00 would get you 1/2 a 5 gal pail ( roughly 60-70 oysters) and these were fresh like right at the shore line fresh). Mind you they were still covered in mud and you had to scrub them but heck were they ever good. Clams , OMG not a job for an old man but I was able to dig enough for a few good feeds but you could buy them at the fish market for under $5.00 a dozen. Heres my quandry: I would have brought a good supply home but didn't have time to prepair. I went on line to try to buy some "fresh" seafood, oysters $2.50 ea. Jumbo shrimp $25.00 a lb. I understand that a profit has to be made, and I don't mind paying a reasonable price for what I get but some of these prices seem a little extreme. Does anyone have a supplier in the GTA that provides quality, fresh seafood at anything but an exorberent price?
  6. Well first of all kudos to both of you guys for doing what you can to help others, it is a wonderful feeling. I don't "formally" volunteer anywhere but I do always try my best to help out anyone that I can. Up until last year I would shovel elderly neighbours driveways and things like that. At 77 I can't do as much of the physical stuff any more and in fact have to hire help for some things. I still do other things, help out with paper work, rides to medical appointments, fix things for neighbours, check in on the ones that live alone. As far as donations go, now that I am not working anymore I can't donate as much as I use to but I do give what I can to the legion poppy fund every year. If you do it directly to the legion you even get a tax deductible receipt. Being a veteran myself I am very aware of the good work they do. I know there are other very worthy charities but I can only do so much.
  7. I sure remember the old days of smelt fishing but those days are long gone. I have fished smrlts through the ice down in Wellend and it was a lot of fun. They seamed to be smaller than what i remembered but tasted just as good. Would love to get into enough for a feed again but won't hold my breath. 😊
  8. I finally got out ice fishing on Monday, last year it was a struggle to get enough decent perch for a feed, not a problem this year. I am not going to give you a number but from the time we got there until we left it was one after another, often with both of us pulling up double headers at the same time. There were a few dinks but most of them were 10+" with a few monsters thrown in. I can honestly say it was probably the best day catching I can ever remember. (We both only kept about 20 fish) Conditions out there were pretty good, ice seemed to be 8- 10 " but there seemed to be quite a bit of slush building up by the end of the day. Days like that I am glad i go out with an operator, it's worth the money for me to not have to worry getting stuck, that's work for a young man 😊 Once again, thanks to Tim Hales and his crew for another fantastic day!
  9. I would love to Geoff but I will be on my way to Myrtle Beach to get my fill of whitings, clams, oysters.....
  10. Just got word Tim Hales has huts out. ( I am NOT SAYING IT'S SAFE) but I do trust Tim and his staff to get me out there and make sure I get back in. I was beginning to think I wouldn't get any perch fishing in before I head to Myrtle Beach this year.
  11. I took the Santa Fe out in that snow last Friday, wanted to see how the AWD handled in the snow. Pulled into a fairly steep driveway that hadn't been cleared yet. Stopped then backed out, didn't even slip a tire. It was like driving on dry pavement. I was going to put snow tires on it but I am leaving for Myrtle Beach soon and won't be back until mid April. This thing is amazing!
  12. Well I walked away from GMs after a new car ended up in the shop 9 times in less that 80k km for majour problems and GM wouldn't do anything to help me until I threatened to paint lemons on it and park it in front of the dealership. They finally agreed to have the dealership go over the car one last time, cost $1600,00 just in parts. I sold it the next day. I have had 3 Nissans, one had to have the engine replaced within the first 10k, it was faulty from the day I picked it up, the last one had so many issues with it right from day one, even the dealer just shook his head. My last Toyota was pretty good until the dealership started to nickel and dime me, told me I needed new brakes......., took it elseware, brakes were still 50%, when I did decide to try and trade up, they gave me a much lower trade in value than what I got and they didn't seem at all interested, perhaps because delivery on what I wanted was 6 months or more out. Up until covid hit and supply started going down hill, they had been fantastic to deal with. I got the feeling they were trying to make up for the lack of sales by service work. I did a lot of research before I signed on the dotted line and I am comfortable with not only the manufacturer but the dealership. I have only had this one for a week now and I am so impressed in the way it handles, it is so much quieter on the road, much more comfortable than the RAV 4, the layout of the controles is easier to see and access.... I don't think there is a manufacturer out there that doesn't have some issues, it's how they and the dealership respond to thoes issues that make the difference. 😊
  13. There is no better way to describe it! Just WOW! I decided it was time to upgrade my car, it was a 2019 Rav 4 and had almost 110,000 km on it. I really liked the car, it had served me well but when I went to try to get a new one the local sales rep didn't seem too interested so I decided to look at other options. I ended up going to the local Hyundai dealership, Carmax to see what they had. From the moment I walked in the door I felt comfortable, I was greeted with a friendly smile by Colin the sales manager. I explained I was just "kicking tires" at the moment, wondered what I might get as a trade in, wanted to see what they might have available. Colin was fantastic, asked about what things were important to me and explained some of the options then answered countless questions. He was so easy to deal with, no pressure, no push to up sell, he gave me a great deal on my trade in. Long story short, I ended up buying a new Santa Fe AWD Preferred Trend package and I couldn't be happier, I am looking forward to years of comfort and service above and beyond anything I have seen in many years. A big shout out to Colin and the rest of the staff at Carmax in Lindsay!
  14. I have bought a lot of things on Amazon and never had a problem.if it's new, it should have the full warranty.
  15. Wishing each and everyone of you a very Merry Christmas and all the very best for 2023.
  16. My solution is simple, I rent a heated hut 😊
  17. Boy does that ever look sore, made MYeyes water just looking at the picture😮
  18. Well first of all, thank you all for your replies and comments but a very special thank you to spiel who pm'd me some very helpful tips. The rod is repaired and to look at it you wouldn't know there was ever anything wrong with it. Will it fish exactly like the original? I'll have to wait until spring but I have a feeling it will do just fine besides, by spring I won't remember exactly how it fished anyway. 😊
  19. Mr. Nobody did it, but I just went to get one of my favorite rods and found that the tip has been broken off. I want to repair it but haven't done one before. Any suggestions on where to buy a new tip and what is the best adhesive to use. Can you order spacific diameters? If so, how much tolerance between the od of the rod and the id of the tip.
