  1. Moe, I have always had good reception on the bell system in this area even with my old phones but the new ones came in today (now that is service, signed up on Sunday, had the new phones in my hand on Tuesday PM). and I have full signal strength. Much better than the old phones that were 2-3 bars. Cliff
  2. Lifer????? I'd be dead on the spot. Heck, last time I ticked Sue off I didn't see her for 4 days. By the fifth day the swelling in my eyes had started to go down and I could make out some shapes and figures!
  3. Sorry, I have to go now and take that nice little Shark Cordless that I bought at CTC last night back before it's too late!
  4. Chickenhawk, these phones come free, no strings attached, no plan. Only reason I am getting rid of them is because I got new phones when I switched over to Virgin Mobile. You can have these if you would like. I am currently going to school in Whitby, perhaps we can "relay" them through the OFC network and get them to you if you would like them. Let me know. Cliff
  5. For years I have been paying Bell $60.00+ a month for a couple of cell phones. We hardly ever use them except for emergencies but pay anyway so pay we did. The end of Nov. our contract was up so I started looking for options (Bell and I have a love hate realtionship, I love to hate them!). So I ended up talking to a lot of people and as a result called Virgin Mobile! Within about 3 rings I had a real person on the phone, they even spoke english, (that I could understand) and were fun to talk to, actually, they seemed really interested in helping me (wow, what a revolution)! I ended up getting two new phones (with cameras, I didn't need the camera but it was the same price as one without the camera) $49.95 ea. (but wait, there is more), If I went on a pre paid plan, they would give me back $35.00/ phone credit toward my pay as you go plan. Wow, now the phones were only costing me about $15.00 ea (But wait, there is more) I got no "system access fee", No "911" fee, free call display, messaging, and three way calling.! OK so I was paying Bell $720.00 a year and didn't have display, messaging, 3 way calling. Not only that on the pay as you go plan, I could do automatic top ups, so I would never run out of time. So, here is the deal, I have two LG phones, they still work OK but we don't need them any more, if they are worth anything, we will auction them off to anyone that can use them (any proceeds go to Rick) If they have no cash value (they are about 4 years old) then what should I do with them (ya, i thought about sending them back to Bell Freight PPD) but thought I'd ask on here first!
  6. Guess he really didn't want to get into deer hunting that badly!
  7. Well, my first question is WHY do you want to get into deer hunting? To answer your question; first thing you should do is get your hunters ed course. Then try to find out if there are any hunting clubs (sportsman clubs) in your area. and find out about joining one of them, you'll get to meet a lot of people with all sorts of experience, it might take you a while to earn their confidance but if you are a stand up guy, that will come. Read a lot, go talk to a local butcher, try to find someone that knows how to make saussage, jerky, summer saussage, offer to work for them part time in exchange for teaching you about meat etc.. Talk to other hunters, actually, listen to other hunters especially the ones that tend to be successful. Spend a lot of time in the bush listening and watching.
  8. Missed the original post, you have PM
  9. Wanted a special book one year but I figured no one would think to buy it for me so I bought it, got the ladies at the mall to wrap it, and put it under the tree To Cliff, from Santa. For years my mom thought my wife had gotten it for me and my wife thought my mom had gotten it for me. They didn't find out until one day my mom commented on how much I used the book that Sue had gotten me and they realized that there had to have been another Santa that year LOL.
  10. All the very best to you Lew, keep em coming!
  11. Ok Cliff, is there ANYTHING you WON'T do for a very worthwhile cause LOL. I am so very proud of you Cliff!!!!!!! You never cease to amaze me with your talents and charactor.
  12. Steve, for years my son kept telling me I should get a good pair of Gortex boots. I had a good pair of boots (I thought) but they finally wore out and I needed new ones. Reluctantly I took my son's advice and spent the extra $ on a good pair of Gortex boots. My only regret is I wish I had listened to him sooner! I wear these things hunting and fishing in some really extreme conditions and I have to admit they are really comfortable and worth every cent I spent on them. See what some of the others think of them, maybe I could have done better but I do like what I have! BTW. Got something here for you if you want to make a trip up this way one day with your lovely lady and when ice fishing opens on Lake X for crappie bet we could talk Beans into a trip with us. Guest room is open!
  13. Well BITME, we are proud to have you as a member too! For years I have been saying that OFC is a family, we may hit the odd bump in the road but we stick together! That's just what real famlies do!
  14. Thank you all so much for your help and feed back. I have applied the suggestions and we'll see if it hapens again. Thank you so much!
  15. Holdfast, lighten up my friend, my daughter had a baby when she was 17, today I have a beautiful granddaughter, with a wonderful mother, a daughter who ended up with a wonderful man, a granddaughter with a fantastic step father and a man I am very pleased to call my son-in-law. Don't waste a single minute of your life letting the little things bother you, cherish the seconds!
  16. Only thing Sue said to me when we looked at this place was "Well, the only thing we can't change is the location right?". Truer words were never spoken, today we have changed just about everything but the location. It was hard work and it has taken us 7 years and we still aren't finished but I would love to invite you and your wife to come for a visit, see some "before" pictures and see what we have been able to do with it. It's not perfect but it is comfortable, it's a home. 40 year old septic system if it is working properly no problem, if it isn't.... get a quite. Dug well, if it supplies enough water, no problem, drilled wells tend to be high in minerals, sometimes iron and sulpher. They can be removed but it costs money. A dug well, might need a UV purifier to insure water quality, about $700.00 big deal! We live on Sturgeon Lake, we would be happy to sit down and talk with you about our experiences if you would like.
  17. Art, I am so sorry but they told me my taxes were going up this year because of the cost of snow removal. I told them to stuff the snow where the sun DON'T shine.... typical beauocrats, they took DON'T for DO! Sorry for your luck my friend. On the brighter side, Environment Canada just advised we are going to have a warmer than normal winter up here. Would you like to come for a visit?
  18. My first reaction was that your post reminded me of a statement I had to make to my daughter once a long time ago. "I might not like what you are doing with your life right now but I will always love and respect you", "All I ask of you is that you also respect me and my feelings equally". She thought about it and agreed and today we have a wonderful relationship, funny how mutual respect can do that for you! We work so hard to bring our children up to think for themselves, to explore new frontiers, to dare to dream and to not place boundries on themselves. Sometimes they don't always follow the paths that we do and sometimes that can be hard for us to accept although you seem to have done an admiral job of doing just that. You won't loose any friends over this, anyone that couldn't understand wouldn't have been a true friend anyway! I can't tell you what you should say to your son other than be honest, be loyal, and respect him and ask him to do the same with you. If you both do that, then you will both continue to grow and build a strong, warm, and loving relationship. Sometimes it is hard work but nothing good ever came from sitting around crying or wishing! Just my $0.02 worth.
  19. OK, did that, got about 5 files in there under "shares" ADMIN$ C$ F$ IPC$ print$ Nothing in the other folders. Can I just delete these and will this stop it?
  20. For the last few months every once in a while when I go to turn off my computer I get a message "other users are logged on to this compuer, shutting down will cause them to loose data" (or something to that effect). I have the only user acount on this computer, my guest account is turned off, I have my firewall on the max setting, I am running XP Professional, I have run my virus checker and Spybot several times and can't find anything. Any thoughts or suggestions? I have to admit I am a little uncomfortable thinking that someone could be accessing my computer!
  21. LOL, I did that to one once, well, actually mine was right under water, never did run the same after that. Looks like you guys did some hard slugging to get out of there.
  22. WTG Guys! Did you happen to get back to the spot I showed you? Beans, next time you are over this way remind me, I've got some honey garlic saussages in the freezer for you.
  23. I decided I would like to try hunting with a cross bow last year. I did a lot of research (much of it involved talking to guys from this board). I finally decided that I wanted the fastest, hardist hitting cross bow I could get and after talking to our friend Sam from this board, settled on a Middelton 375. Sam was wonderful, put together a package for me, made sure I knew how to use it properly, and away I went. I was a little apprehensive about killing a deer with an arrow but after my first deer was on the ground within seconds of being shot I had a whole new appreciation for the power of a bow and a properly placed shot. I wouldn't even bother going back to using a gun any more, this is just so much more rewarding. I really enjoy the planning of the hunt, selecting the location for my stand, and all the little things that go into making for a successful hunt but I truly enjoy sitting quietly in my stand and just watching nature happen all around me, if I do get a deer it is an added bonus. As others have said, try to find an experienced hunter that is willing to take the time to teach you all the ropes, it's not as easy as just walking into the bush and shooting a deer. If you really want to be successful, there is a lot of learning to do. Finding a place to hunt, learning their habbits, tracking, wind patterns, building a proper stand and where to put it...... well, the list is long but much like fishing, the more you learn, the more successful you will be. Just as in fishing how you handle your catch will play a big roll in the quality of what you put on the table. Good luck and enjoy!
  24. I don't care if MNR or anyone else believes there are cougars in Ontario. Last spring I had one not 30' away from me while I was out on my deck early one morning. My neighbour saw it too but didn't realize what he had seen until we started talking about it the next day. It was early and still dark, he heard the noise and turned on his yard lights and saw something large in the yard, he thought it might have been a wolf, he never expected a cougar. Believe it or not, doesn't matter to me, I KNOW what I saw and heard!
  25. I have been there several times and my suggestion would be to talk to a few of the locals ( the resort is a good place to start, most of the staff speak English quite well). Try to stay away from the "Charters organized by the resort" they are $$$$$. If you take a bit of time you can find some local fishermen that will be happy to take you out for a fraction of what the "charters" will cost you and you will probably get a better variety of fish and have a lot more fun. The inland fishing is fantastic, I have a friend that has gone down there many times and always goes bass fishing, he loves it! I have fished both from the shore and piers and had a wonderful time. All you have to do is wade out into the surf and cast a line, as already suggested, shrimp are a good place to start. Take packages of chiclets with you, (they can't buy them there), fishing line, some lures, hooks, they are the most appreciative people in the world! Take some packages of Pringles for yourself for snacks, they travel well and you won't find a lot of snack foods in Cuba. Apart from that, relax and enjoy, I have traveled a lot and Cubans are the warmest, friendliest, most honest people I have ever met!
