Well, after two very long, long distance phone calls from Mr. Blair (at his expense) I just sent him this email: Mr. Blair, I am sorry to inform you that my son has advised me that I shouldn't continue to try to help you with this matter, he said it is some sort of a scam and that I will end up sending money and never get it back. Since he works for the FBI in their fraud division I am inclined to believe that he knows what he is talking about. He did ask me to forward him the contact information though so that he could check into it. I am sure that once he finds out this is on the up and up he will let me go ahead and help you! Best regards C. Bignell" Boy do I wish there was someone here in Canada that this could be reported too and that could actually do something about it! There are just too many scams out there that target the elderly or nieve. Even our own Bell Canada is guilty of taking advantage of the elderly. I know a person that works for a bell call centre, they got written up because they advised an elderly lady to talk to her son before signing up for a Bell Stick. The lady didn't even know what a Bell Stick was much less have a computer. She was just trying to be nice because the call centre person was so nice to her, she would have signed up for anything. The employee got a written repremand for that one! No wonder the turn over is so high at bell call centers (and they operate under many different names) I have also found out that a lot of people are paying rent on old rotary dial phones that aren't even in service anymore but Bell won't tell them that they don't have to pay rent on them, they just keep collecting the money. There should be a law against this sort of thing, it is out and out fraud as far as I am concerned. You'd think CRTC would make them adhear to reasonable business practices but they still keep getting away with it. Yup, good old Bell Canada!!!!!

Beans, you and I are probably the only two people I know that would practice all night for a urin test then fail it in the morning! LOL. Anyway, I have had lots of fun with this guy, gave him my phone number, told him I needed help filling out the forms, He has called me twice now (kept him on the phone as long as I could) from country code 44 wherever that is LOL. It haas to be costing him something to make these long distance phone calls, the more the better I figure.

Thanks for the heads up! You are right, there are a lot of people like me that would go "oh my gosh, I am so sorry, tell me what I need to do!" Never thinking that someone would be trying to set me up. -

Oh no, do you think this might be a twist on the old My link Oh, I am so devistated, to think all I wanted to do was help this poor man. Boy, I wish there was someone I could report this to that could/would do something about it! I almost sent him $10,000.00 to help with the transfer! I would have sent it but I'm about $9999.99 short of what is needed!

But wait, there is more, they want to give me a lot of money just for helping them out! I sent him an email asking what he needed me to do to help him. I got this back: "Thanks for your response to my mail, it was well appreciated. Let me formally introduce myself. I am a private and independent Auditor with Northern Rock Bank and other financial institutions. In the course of our auditing, we have discovered an account that has not been operational since 2004. After thorough investigation, we discovered that the owner of the account, late Fran an Engineer, 65 years died in a natural disaster 2004 in Indonesia, see http://www.tsunami2004.net . All effort to locate any members of his family has proved abortive. It was in this circumstance, that I have contacted you to partner with me for the transfer of these funds to your Bank for our mutual benefit, as a top official of the Northern Rock bank is also involved in this intended transaction. Note that since he works with the bank and I a private auditor, I was mandated to source for the credible partner to receive these funds on our behalf. And such partner must share same last name with the deceased, to enable us have a convincing claim on the funds, presenting the partner as a next of Kin. According to laws of the land, all unattended deposit beyond seven years will be forfeited to the state, hence my contacting you, because the deceased after my research with the Death and Birth Registry, has not next of kin, neither did leave behind any "Last Will and Testament". The total amount secured is £9,135,000.00 (Nine Million, One Hundred and Thirty Five Thousand British Pounds), and we are willing to share with you 70% for us, 30% for you. Further to the above, please find below the procedures and details required for the realization of this transaction. To ensure that everything is done legally, we shall employ the services of Northern Rock Bank U.K accredited Lawyer that would represent the interest of both parties. The lawyer shall depose an affidavit with the High Court for the change of beneficiary from late Fran to your name. This is to ensure legal transfer of all documents to your name as the new benefactor and next of kin to the deposited funds with Northern Rock Bank U.K. The Court Affidavit would give you the legal status to receive the funds in your account for us without being questioned by your Bank and your country's financial authorities. Upon transfer of beneficiary to your name, the attorney shall apply to Northern Rock Bank U.K for necessary approvals from the Board of Directors for the Fund Release Order and subsequent transfer of the funds to your Bank account for us. I would require your confirmation on the above aforementioned procedure to enable me apply on your behalf for the Beneficiary's Claims Application Form for your completion. Copy of the Form will be sent to you by E-mail attachment for your completion. You will be required to complete the Form and either Fax or email back to the Wire Department for their routine processing and subsequent approvals to authorize transfer of the funds to your account for us. Feel free to seek further clarification and I will oblige you. I wait your confirmation as I look forward to a fruitful business relationship with you. Regards, Mr. Johnson Blair Managing Partner/ Executive Auditor Tel: +447024024710 Fax: +447040906254" He sounds like such a nice person and you know me, I love to help people!

I just received this email today: "Hello It gives me a great deal of pleasure to write you this mail even when it might come to you as a surprise. I hope you find it of interest. My name is Johnson Blair. I am an Auditor with a Bank here in Europe . I would like to use this means to ask your assistance in moving some funds over to your country. I have in the course of my duties come in contact with some funds that have been inactive for some years now and careful investigation proved the original depositor of the funds died over six years ago. All attempts to reach the suppose beneficiary of the deposit were fruitless and before it is forfeited to the state, I will like to move it outside now and this is were I need your assistance. According to laws of the land, all unattended deposit beyond seven years will be forfeited to the state, hence my contacting you. I look forward to hearing from you and my gratitude for your patience Sincerely yours, Johnson Blair Tel: +447024024710 Fax: +447040906254"

Further to my original post, I forgot to mention; use light line, the lighter the better when fishing the walleye. I have often seen guys sitting in the boat using 10 or 12 lb mono and not catching a thing while the guys using 4 or 6 lb mono were pounding the fish. This is especially important if the water is clear and you are using live bait. Lighter line also presents less drag on the line from the current which allows you a more sensitive feal. Wish I was going with you!!!! Cliff

Now that the battery myths have been cleared up, back to your original problem. I suspect you have a bad connection either at the battery, solonid, or at the starter. (probably at the battery, the hissing and popping sound you are hearing is arcing) Clean all the connections using a wire brush (Available at CTC especially for cleaning battery terminals (fine wire, usually brass or some similar alloy, then apply a light coat of battery grease to all mating surfaces(also available at CTC)Petrolium jelly will work too in a pinch. Once all your connections have been made, apply a light coat over the connections this will prevent any corrosion. Just remember; on a negitive ground system ALWAYS disconnect the Negitive terminal first and reconnect the negitive terminal last! This is VERY Important!!!!! Another thing you should check is the water level in the battery unless it is a maint. free battery, if it needs topping up only use DISTILLED water (available at any drug store).

Quick Poll: Do I need new trailer tires
Big Cliff replied to young_one's topic in General Discussion
I'd be asking a tire expert! -
When MADD becomes PADD (People against drunk driving) I'll be happy to donate. I explained that to one young lady that called for a donation, her comment was "lots of people feel the same way, I get that comment a lot!" Until then, I'll donate what I can to cancer research and the heart and stroke foundation or other causes that I feel are worthy of my support. When OPG stops paying stupid bonuses to their management for running things into the ground and us into debt, I'd be happy to see them donate any surplus to fish and wild life. If they are responsible for millions of fish being killed then they should be MADE to compensate the fisheries. That they donate money, my money, and get a pat on the back for doing a good deed with my money I do have a problem with that. I think I'd better go fishing tonight!

Both excellent pieces of advice. For walleye, fish the moving water during the day, early morning until evening, try to work back eddies (walleye are lazy this time of the year and like to sit and wait for a meal to drop by) as much as you can, I like to use a drop shot rig with minnows, I put the hook in through one eye socket and out the other, this makes the minnow look like it is swimming up stream and very natural to the walleye. It takes a bit of practice but the technique is to drop your line fast (free spool) with a fairly heavy weight and snelled hooks about 18 and 36 inches up the line. Let the current bow your line (lowering the minnow), wait a minute, if nothing happens, lift your weight and repeat, letting your weight catch and hold bottom, again lowering the minnow. (you will get a lot of snaggs doing this so take plenty of weights and hooks, you will also get a lot of walleye) I use to guide in the French (many years ago) and could usually put limits in the boat when others were getting skunked). Rick, can you back me up on this? Evening walleye; If you can, fish shallow fast moving water (above or just below rapids using husky jerks, rapals, that sort of thing. Don't be afraid to go a little larger than you would normally think and use something that will run shallow. Very slow retrieve up stream, let the current do the work for you. Move your lure up stream 2-3' pause for 30 seconds and repeat. I use to like to do this right from shore, they will come in very close. Mid day troll back bays for the pike troll slow, keep your lure in the prop wash and no deeper than you can see it, If you can't see your lure you are too deep, I like to use a Williams Silver or half and half, just depends on the light conditions, Red Devil works but so do a lot of other things. There is no 100% answer. Late evening (sunset until whenever)casting points, docks, almost anywhere near weeds using shallow running baits will work well for the walleye. One of my best producers is a #3 silver Mepps tipped with two (not one, not 3)but two, 2" white twister tails. Good luck, let me know how you do, and enjoy God's country!

Pikeslayer and Pikeslayer Jr. were due to come up this weekend to do a little fishing. We watched the weather reports all week hoping that the weather forecasts would change but they didn't. We decided to hell with the weather reports, they are wrong 85% of the time anyway so we decided that rain or shine we'd give it a shot anyway. Saturday morning bright and early I got an email from Simon saying they were on their way. Good, I got breakfast started so we could eat and hit the water early. Breakfast finished we dawned our rain gear and headed out. We decided to give the crappie a shot first thing in the morning while the water was still cool. Well, the fishing was very active with many large blue gills, sunfish, pumkinseed, SM bass, rock bass and yes, even a few nice crappie thrown into the mix for good measure. We were having so much fun that we delayed in heading out for walleye, I knew where we could catch a few of those later in the day. We actually stayed and fished pan fish until lunch time. Back home for lunch and a warmer upper, we enjoyed some wonderful saussages that Simon and Sean had brought up with them then we headed back out to see if we could scare up a walleye or two. A few hits but nothing landed after a bit and the boys decided perhaps a nice nap would be in order since they had been up and on the road at such an early hour. We came back to the house to get rested up for the evening. Early evening and the rain started to happen but the walleye were in tight so we decided that we'd just sit tight and fish right off the dock. It didn't take long and Simon had one on but lost it. Sean landed two that were in the slot and I landed one that was under the slot. Simon managed a couple of pan fish but got shut out on the walleye which was disapointing for me. The guys stayed and fished for a bit longer while I came up to the house and made a bit of supper for us. By the time we finished supper and Simon cleaned up all the fish we got, and there were a few!!!!! (under the watchfull eye of Sean) we were all ready for bed so to bed we went, it didn't take very long for any of us to get to sleep Fresh air and good fishing and a "warmer upper" seems to do that. Thank you Simon and Sean for making this one opening weekend I will remember fondly for a very long time! You are both part of a very elite group of people that immediatly feel like you are family when you come for a visit. Sue and I feel very blessed to know you!

whats your favourite spinner for trout
Big Cliff replied to hurraylien's topic in General Discussion
No disrespect ment on my part and I wasn't aiming my comment at him although after re reading my post I can see where it could be preceived that way. I have no problem sharing information with anyone that is willing to share with others but I do have a problem with lurkers that take every bit of information they can get and offer nothing in return. Saddly I have learned this from first hand experience. Yes, you can teach an old dog new tricks! -
And lots of parking lot tickets say "not responsible for loss or damage" on the back of them. Doesn't stand up in court if they have been negligent in providing reasonable protection. Racing, parking, driving down the street, we should all have the right to expect that normal conditions would apply and that KNOWN HAZARDS should be clearly identified and where ever possible corrected in a timely manner. I wonder what your attitude would be if you had your arm torn wide open, 16 stitches in your arm, lost a week of work, had your holiday cut short, lost your deposit on your hotel room and still had a real mess on your arm and what looks like it will be a nasty scar for the rest of your life because of what appears to be someone elses negligence?
