  1. Thanks Simon but that is a long way to come just for a couple of hours, you'd spend more time getting here than it will take to do the job. Young Brad, the fellow that apprentices with me has offered to come and help if I need him.
  2. Wurth has a product that freezes things to -40 or something close to it. I have used it to undo bolts that I didn't think would ever come undone. I wonder if it would work for you in this case. Give them a call.
  3. He got hydro and phone back late this afternoon so all is good there. I am still going over Sunday to get that tree off his shed for him so if anyone can give me a hand it would be appreciated! Anyone else need a generator?
  4. Simon, as I told you, that bottle will be saved for your next visit. It is far too special for one to enjoy without good company! It is a treasure I will enjoy with he that brought it!
  5. Ok gang, I have to go over to Bean's on Sunday and try to get that tree off his shed, I have a chainsaw but could really use a bit of help. Anyone available for an hour or two? Ok, Ok, might take 3 but we have to get it off his shed before it causes any serious damage and I know Beans can't do it.
  6. Talked to him a few minutes ago (before I read this) He called me on his cell phone so I think his land line must be out too. I know his cable isn't working. Your mom was out with the girls but he seemed to be doing OK. Don't worry I'll check on him again tomorrow.
  7. No, I think we are fine Cliff but thanks for the offer (unless you want to go over to Beans with me and try to remove that tree).
  8. Riverview is on the Scugog River but there is a set of locks between there and Sturgeon Lake. There is a trailer park near Bobcayegon, right near CPH's he might be able to help you with contact info. Nice place, beach, don't know much more but he would be a good person to ask!
  9. No problem Steve but if you are planning on a BBQ for this weekend you might want to bring extra food. I think your mom was getting ready to post a big sign about "free BBQ" (or something) LOL.
  10. There are so many wonderful places available, Riverview in Lindsay is right on the river with good fishing and access to Scugog. Sue and I use to rent a trailer years ago and she loved it (Sue was a big city girl) we had a ton of fun. Best advice I can give you is; find an area you like, go and talk to some of the residents of trailer parks in that area, and then make your decision. Park fees of $300.00 a month are probably less than you would pay in taxes on a waterfront cottage in the Kawarthas.
  11. Steve I'm not sure, I think it was a poplar but I really didn't look that closley, I was busy talking with your mom. Whatever it was it was all blackened near where it broke off, that is why I figured a lightning strike. If you need a generator for the weekend let me know I might be able to borrow one for you to use.
  12. Well Paul, the place next door is for sale Paul in all fairness I don't do anything that most of the OFNrs on this board wouldn't do. Anytime I have ever asked for help of any kind, I have been flooded with generous offers. The best I can do is to try to pay it forward!
  13. Talked to Beans last night, his power was out but he was OK. He called me back today to let me know he might not have power back until Sunday. I took my generator over and got him hooked up enough so his fridges and freezer will be OK, he has running water from their pump house on the hill so he is good there. He has phone but no TV or internet right now, the generator can do it but we are trying to run everything off extension cords and don't want to overload things. I left him with enough gas to keep things going for a couple of days but will check on him again tomorrow when i get off work. He could probably use the help of some young guy with a chain saw though, he does have the top of a tree laying across one of his sheads, Anyone want to help? I can supply the chainsaw, gas and oil! Stopped by CPH's place, no damage to his place but no power either. His mom was there taking stuff out of the freezer to her place so it should be OK. Huge tree right across the road from CPH's looks like it took a direct lightning strike, fortunatly it didn't take out the power lines or hit any houses, it was a big one. Anyone else in the Kawarthas need me to check on their place or family?
  14. Perhaps the "JOKE" is based on the fact that many have seen crappie being sold at markets etc.. Truly, there is little or no reason to take 30+ crappie per person other than if you were going to sell them and unless you have a comercial license in which case you wouldn't be limited to only 30, selling them is a violation! I have seen way too much abuse going on and it is about time some of these "JERKS" got caught and fined. These are only the tip of the iceberg.
  15. Missed us, knocked our lawn furnature and things around but no serious damage. Bobcayegon apparently has quite a bit of damage and Hwy. 35 is closed North of Fenelon with trees and power lines down. If you know anyone in those areas and need me to check on them just let me know. I also have a portable 6500 watt generator that I would loan out if needed. 705-328-0577
  16. Oh do I ever hope that was one of the calls I made. Believe me I will be watching and calling every time I see that sort of thing going on. KUDOS to our CO's.
  17. Which Hospital is he in Dan? I know we can't go and see him right now but perhaps when he is out of ICU. In the mean time, our thoughts and prayers are with him.
  18. As far as I am conserned Canada post (well, their union anyway) has written their own obituary. For years we were held hostage. We had to pay what ever they dictated and be satisified with the service they offered. Their lack of service and costs involved necissated something better. Then came Telex. That was a quick method of getting information from one place to another but it had it's limitations. Next it was fax, again a big improvement, now you could send digital images, only in black and white but better than waiting a couple of days for the post office to deliver them (if they ever got there) and it was less expensive. Now using email or text messaging we can send almost any information we want back and forth in seconds at very little or no cost. All these other systems were derived out of necessity! No wonder Canada Post is going down the tubes. Think about it; you give customers less than state of the art service, charge them more than they need to pay, and tell them they can like it or lump it? Instead they should have been on the leading edge of delivering these services. Oh but wait the union wouldn't go for that, it might take mailmen (persons) off the streets and force them to work in offices developing software or doing customer support. Can't have that!!!! Sorry but that is the way of the world, if I don't like what you are offering, I will find an alternative. About the only thing that gets delivered to my mail box anymore is junk mail (oh wait, Canada Post delivers that) so should they be called mailmen or junkmen? BTW, no disrespect is ment to any Canada Post employees, you have a job, and you do it, Kudos to you! i know several and they are all good people. I do have one more question though; who voted in the union in the first place and why? Could it have been for more money, benefits, a nice retirement package? Could it have been greed? It is a long time in coming but I think that your union has just priced you out of a job or will in the near future!
  19. So, I am helping a friend fix an old outboard. Now I am a licensed small engine mechanic but I am not a marine mechanic so I don't have all the resources that a good marine mechanic would have. So this morning I sent my friend Bernie a PM asking for some specific information; within an hour I had a PM back from him with exactly what I needed to know. Now that my friends is what OFC is all about; people helping people! Thank you Bernie I really appreciate your help and hope I can return the favour some day!
  20. We saw you, didn't know who it was but wish you had come in for a pit stop. You are always welcome!!!!!!
  21. headed out early Sunday morning, managed 2 both over the slot in about the first 1/2 hour then nothing but perch, rock bass, and some blue gills. For the rest of the day. I tried everything from 3 fow to 20 fow, weed beds to shoals, cranks to worms and even minnows but I couldn't land another walleye. I did get into some fantastic blue gill fishing in one spot though using a crappie rig cast after cast and all nice and big. Talked to the guy at the lodge, he said pretty much the same thing, walleye were turned off. can't figure out why because the sky was over cast, there was a light chop, even the evening bite didn't happen which is very unusual especially off our dock. Oh well next time maybe!
  22. I am so very sorry to hear of your loss, remember always what he has left behind, all those wonderful memories that will last forever! keep him with you in your heart forever.
  23. You are right Wayne, could be a lot of things!
  24. Then it can only be spark or fuel. Canuck2fan is right on all three counts. I would check those plugs though, just in case. If you remove the plugs, squirt a small amount of fuel into the cylinder, replace the plugs and try to start it. If it still won't fire then there is a problem with the ignition. If it does fire then quit then there is a problem with the fuel supply. It is always possible that one of those gears has sheired a key throwing it out of time. Not likely but I have seen stranger things.
  25. Got a nice little batch on Thursday and a nice bag of fiddleheads on Monday. Nature is so good to us!
