  1. Excellent report as usual, Thanks for sharing! As for those hidden dangers; Paul and I were out yesterday morning and came across a large log (dead head) just outside the chanel in an area where there is normally nothing to worry about. We did try to put a rope on it thinking we would drag it into shore but we couldn't budge it. A little later on in the afternoon I went back out and came across another huge dead head again in a place I have been traveling for years and never saw anything. Be careful, even if it was safe yesterday, it might not be safe today!
  2. OK, I get the hint my friend, by the next time you come up there will be nothing but brown stuff left in those planters, I have some stuff! No need to thank me, I know you'd do the same for me!!!!!!
  3. We didn't have frost here Steve, Deb's planters should be ok.
  4. Sturgeon Lake was 59 to 65 F this morning. Fog moved in about 7 ish and we couldn't see more than 50 yards at times. Fishing was fantastic because of the company but the catching was really slow. Talked to a couple of other boats and they were having the same luck as we were. We did end up with a couple of big sun fish and a few perch. Tried worms, minnows, spinners, jigs (and a few combinations) and all sorts of different locations. Might have some lunch and give it another go!
  5. Might as well
  6. LOVE stories like these!
  7. I grew up without a father, he died when I was 10! He didn't mean to, it was an accident but I can tell you from experience it isn't something I would wish on any child!
  8. Woman: Do you drink beer? Man: Yes Woman: How many beers a day? Man: Usually about 3 Woman: How much do you pay per beer? Man: $5.00 which includes a tip (This is where it gets scary !) Woman: And how long have you been drinking? Man: About 20 years, I suppose Woman: So a beer costs $5 and you have 3 beers a day which puts your spending each month at $450. In one year, it would be approximately $5400 ...correct? Man: Correct Woman: If in 1 year you spend $5400, not accounting for inflation, the past 20 years puts your spending at $108,000, correct? Man: Correct Woman: Do you know that if you didn't drink so much beer, that money could have been put in a compound interest savings account and after accounting for compound interest for the past 20 years, you could have now bought a Ferrari? Man: Do you drink beer? Woman: No Man: Where's your "blanking" Ferrari?
  9. It is simple folks: Want your daughter to have to ask some other man to walk her down the isle because dad didn't wear a life jacket? Want your son to have to go to a father and son banquet and tell everyone that his dad couldn't come with him because he didn't wear a life jacket? Want your wife to have to figure out how she is going to bring up your kids because her husband didn't think he needed to wear his life jacket? Who is going to hold your first grand child, great grand child? When you quit thinking about yourself and start thinking of those you could leave behind, you'll start wearing a life jacket, buckling your seat belts, wearing bike helmets, quit smoking....... Life doesn't come with a reset button!
  10. I saw that guy coming back out of Snug Harbour Rd. about 5:30 last night but he had a sled on the trailer! Looks funny without it, looked even funnier with a sled sitting on the trailer!
  11. Thank you Mike, you just made me feel a lot better! I hope it is never needed but look at what happened last year when some of our own members found themselves in the water. It all happened in seconds and there was no time to grab a pfd and put it on. Fortunatly they all survived. There are two types of inflatable PFDs. auto inflate and manual inflate. The auto inflate ones activate when submerged in water so they work just like a regular PFD. The big advantage of the inflatables is that they are so comfortable you often forget you even have them on.
  12. Sorry, spouted my mouth off! Shoulden't have! Each to their own!
  13. I love reading your posts and very much respect you! Here is my take on things; No one goes out in a boat expecting to end up in the water. crap, that's why we used a boat in the first place. Sometimes though circumstances dictate that things end up otherwise and something goes wrong. Saddly I have seen a few kids grow up without the aid of a father and it could have all been different if only dad had been a suck and worn a life jacket. Just wear it, the worst thing that can go wrong is you didn't need it!
  14. I really don't understand what you are sorry for? Are you saying that everyone but you wears a life jacket and you only do if it is really dangerous? Forgive me, I am old and sometimes slow! You can afford a tank of gas for your boat but you can't afford a good inflatable life jacket? Something isn't adding up here! One good life jacket $120.00. One tank of gas easily $120.00.
  15. Bruce, there is no doubt in my mind thart you are crazy but if I lived anywhere close to you I wouldn't be known as "Big Cliff" I'd just be remembered as "Ka Boom". LOL Just pass me one more jar and stand back!
  16. I am so very sorry for your loss! Words can't heal the hole in your heart but perhaps filling that hole with wonderful memories will help! In our hearts and prayers! Cliff & Sue
  17. Life jackets don't always keep you alive but at least it makes it easier to find your body. Over the years I have heard of or witnessed so many stories where someone has gone out in a boat for whatever reason; something has gone wrong, and someone has ended up in the water. It isn't always the person that goes into the water that suffers. So many times it has been the child or parent that has died trying to rescue the other. If you love your kids, make them wear one! If you love your kids and don't want them to have to grow up without a parent; Wear one!!!!! if you have never been wrong in your life, if you have never made a mistake, please disregarde this message!
  18. Wear the darned thing so your kid has a father to come home to not to get him to wear his! One stupid mistake is all it takes!!!!! I thought you were a really smart guy until I read this!
  19. WOW!!!!! Good for you, that must have been very exciting!
  20. I would be looking at Sunday, the front will have settled in by then. Depending on time of day, you'll probably want to be changing presentations and locations. Early and late in the day I'd probably be working surface, near structure, shallow (stumps etc.) Mid day I'd be looking for some shoals and fishing the shaded side of those using either live bait or plastics, real simple and fished slow. Down size your presentation, the bite isn't likely to be very agressive.
  21. Started by TJ for sure but it is pretty much run by the mods. I have been a member for 15+ years (since near the beginning I think). I'll let someone more in the know give you the real roots and history.
  22. Lots of weed edges LOL and I am getting some walleye but many are small ones (under the slot). It is good to see but the bigger girls have eluded me so far this fall.
  23. Nice going ! I did get out for a couple of hours but the walleye weren't in the spots I'd normally find this time of the year.
  24. I like to keep it simple: Lake X has always got me out of trouble!
  25. I think they should put a bounty on moose, deer, bears, (might as well include geese too). The darnd things are killing people and getting away with it! Seriously: My condolances to the friends and family!
