  1. Just keep telling yourself that! The fact is that it isn't just Halloween, it is about all the other things that we are loosing that were part of our heritage, customs, traditions and Christian religion. Halloween is just one more block in the wall that is going to devide this country; are you familiar with the term divide and conquer.
  2. If that were the reason that Halloween (or All Saints' Eve) was been taken out of our schools then I MIGHT go along with it. The reason it is been taken out of our schools is because some people of (some) other than Christian religions feel it is offensive and that their children shouldn't have to be subjected to it. It's the same reason that Christmas and the lords prayer are no longer in our public schools. On top of that, why the heck shouldn't the kids be allowed to be kids and have some fun. If you don't like the tradition then you don't have to participate but don't spoil it for everyone just because you don't believe in it! Lots of people don't like hunters or fishermen so plenty of them wouldn't like your venison roast, should they have the right to stop you from hunting or fishing?
  3. Finally! Glad to see you back on line again. Yes, that was another wonderful fishing trip, catching might have been better but I go for the company, fish are just an added bonus! Thanks once again for the fantastic treats, I always look forward to them and they are so appreciated!
  4. Get use to it! If you are Christian you will be stripped of everything to do with your religion but don't you dare say a word about any other religions beliefs or symbols, you'll be called a racist, biggot, idiot, hate mongerer! O'Canada, YOUR home and native land!
  5. T That wasn't a very nice remark! I use to think having sex with a 60 something lady would be gross, now that I am 68, I think it's fantastic!
  6. And that my friend is the way good karma is supposed to work! I have always said that I want to be able to walk down any street or into any place and not have to feel ashamed of anything I have done regardless of who I meet. I try very hard to live my life that way, there are times when it has been a struggle but at the end of the day I know I might not be perfect but it sure won't be because I didn't try. For those that think it is ok to rip off an insurance company or big box store; where do you draw the line? If I have more than you is it ok to rip me off too? That kind of worries me, if you will take a penny, will you take a dime? If you will take a dime will you take a dollar? The kind of people I most enjoy spending time with are the ones that are trustworthy. Seems some are, some perhaps not quite up to my way of thinking.
  7. Can't help you with much information on the heaters but I was at Cosco last week and I think the tanks were quite a bit less than $55.00. Might be worth checking out and I have a membership so I would be happy to pick one up at cost for you.
  8. Why would you expect to get flack over doing the right thing! I say congratulations!
  9. I stand corrected, LOL Burwash it was, it was in fact Estare that I was thinking of.
  10. Jds63; you are right, I don't know you and you don't know me but if you did you would know that I have friends of every nationality and many religions. I try to judge every person by their own individual merits and I am not usually too quick to judge anyone preferring to give them the benefit of the doubt. I am sorry that you read my post as being a racist hate mongerer, again if you did know me you would know that this couldn’t be further from the truth and that I am always quick to stand up for the rights of others and offer a helping hand to anyone! I am disappointed and yes perhaps even upset that we consistently seem to be having to give up our religious symbols and customs to appease others. All the while we are expected to just accept that they have a right to exercise theirs. What about the rights of me and my family, my kids and grand kids. I think it has gone a little too far when a school can’t even display words like “Christmas” or “Halloween”. When a Christmas tree can’t be displayed in a public place because it could offend someone who is not Christian or a crucifix can’t be worn openly but other nationalities religious symbols can. You are free to have your opinion, this is Canada but I think that very soon we are going to have to stand up and demand equality! If we don’t, it won’t be long before this won’t be the Canada I was born in and served proudly as a member of the RCRs. So, sit behind your keyboard, toss out terms like racist, hate mongerer, propagating misconceptions; accuse me of hiding behind my keyboard but I hide from no man and I stand behind what I believe and that is my right as a Canadian.
  11. Drifter, thank you so much for posting that link, that is the mark of a true Canadian, brave, courageous and yet still humble!
  12. At no point did I say I had a problem with a policeman wearing a turban, all I was pointing out is that we have made many concessions to our laws, traditions, and way of life to accommodate others religions, beliefs and choices. It seems we are expected to be tolerant of others but we are also expected to freely give up our rights, customs, and beliefs so that we might not offend them. It has to be a two way street, you want my respect, you respect me too. I just drove past one of our local schools, It seems that they were made to change one of their signs from Halloween to Trick or Treat night because someone was offended by “Halloween”. Give me a break!
  13. Wow, "Ignorant" for a spelling mistake (and you couldn't even copy it correctly) that is a bit extreme perhaps some might even say radical! And you have the audacity to call me ignorant? I do believe we have been far too tolerant of others customs and costumes! Just a few examples: We have changed our laws so that Sikhs can wear their turbans in the RCMP, they don’t have to wear a helmet while riding a motorcycle and they are allowed to wear their Kirpan in most public places in Canada. How many changes or concessions have we made to Canadian customs or laws to accommodate the wearing of the burka or hijab? The list is long. We have removed our Christian religious symbols, from most public places because they might offend someone, a Christmas tree for Christ sake; if it offends you go back to where ever you came from. Christianity is the foundation that this country and our values were built on. We are supposed to be tolerant of others but they don’t need to be tolerant of us? As for a solution to the problem we face today: Well, first of all when he wanted to leave Canada and go fight with ISIS, they should have let him go, in fact the remaining 90 or so that are still within Canada should be put on a plane and sent over there. That is when their passports should have been seized so that once out of Canada they would have no way to get back into the country. You want to go and fight a religious war by all means go and fight like a man! Don’t hide here in Canada like a coward and think that because you can kill someone who is unarmed and protecting your rights and freedoms you are some kind of a hero.
  14. For too many years we have been tollerant of other peoples customes and religions, I think that things like this are going to be the beginning of the pendulam starting to swing the other way! Unfortunatly a lot of decent people are going to suffer because of a few idiots but how are we supposed to know the good from the bad?
  15. I am starting to think that an OFC G2G at the hospital c/w ice huts and all might get some attention here. Just say the word Wayne, I for one would be there and I'll bet there would be a lot of others show up. We'd get their attention!!!!!!
  16. THAT WASN'T VERY NICE AT ALL!!!!! But it sure looks good!
  17. I think I can understand someone not wanting to take food from a stranger these days, there are some real nut cases out there and you might get who knows what. I mean we have nut jobs putting needles and razor blades in kids candy and stuff like that so I guess I sort of understand. The apple fritter could have been laced with anything I guess, I knew it wasn't but he had no way of knowing. Without being too judgemental I guess I need to understand what could have been going through his mind.
  18. I have noticed a lot of people lately at on/off ramps with signs with things like "Hungry, Homeless, Please help! God Bless". Obviously they are looking for handouts and I got to wondering; would they work if they could? The other day as I was pulling off the highway I saw one of these people, I had just stopped at a coffee shop and bought a coffee and apple fritter, he looked hungry so as I pulled along side of him I handed him the bag with the apple fritter in it, I had to keep moving, there were cars behind me but as I looked in my mirror I saw him throwing the bag at the back of my truck. There was nothing wrong with the fritter, I hadn't taken a bite out of it or anything but he threw it back at me. My first thought was "well tomorrow I'll try tossing you a cup of steaming hot coffee" but then I cooled down a bit and wondered if I just didn't understand. As I was driving I started thinking about what I would do if I or my family were homeless, and hungry. Would I stand at the side of the road asking others to give me money? Well, I guess I might if I had no other choice but I am way too proud to ask others to give me anything other than an opportunity. I remembered back to the late 60's when I lived in French River and worked for INCO. We went on strike (not my choice) and the strike lasted about 3 months. My strike pay was $11.00 a week, I had a wife and two kids and no money in the bank. Every two weeks I would hitchhike from French River to Sudbury, get my check, go and buy groceries (a lot of KD, it was only $0.11 a box back then), and hitchhike back to FR. (Had to walk it a few times that was back in the day when there was a prison farm at Espanola and big signs "DON'T PICK UP HITCH HIKERS". We ate KD and fish/grouse/ (and anything else I could catch/kill) and we survived. Our landlady was kind enough to let us defer our rent until I got back to work (of coarse with intrest) and I changed the oil stove to a wood stove, we used candles and lanterns (couldn't pay the hydro), but we didn't ask anyone to give us anything (well I guess hitchiking is asking someone to give you a ride). Do these people really need to be out there asking for donations? Don't we have systems and resourses in place to deal with things like this? I know that every year Sue and I donate what we can afford to food banks, the Unitedway and a few other charities but this is Canada after all. We donate millions if not billions of our tax dollars to other countries, are we doing this at the expense of our own people? If so, why?
  19. Keep us posted Bernie, I'm sure many of us would love to tag along on this new adventure of yours, I know I sure would!
  20. OMG Wayne, I am so sorry to hear this. I am afraid I would have lost it on them by now.
  21. I am really praying that no news is good news! Got to get some sleep but I'll be back early in the am.
  22. That is a very kind offer, I am sure someone on here will make good use of it!
  23. X 2. There is no need to be stupid about it! I have called MNR a couple of times and while they didn't always get there in time they did catch a few and that was worth watching!!!!!
  24. One suggestion jimmer, if you want to spend some winters down South, do it before you turn 65. Medical insurance for anyone over 65 is nuts especially if you have ANY health problems.
