it should work but it would be better to leave the blade on it! It acts like a flywheel and besides if a mouse did try to get under it..... LOL

Appliance repair. Can you recommend anyone?

Our Kenmore just went on us not too long ago, same situation. I just went to Home Depot and bought a new Hotpoint for under $300.00 (non Digital). A service call is likely going to cost you close to $100.00 + parts etc.. -
Back on Sept. 22 a fairly new member, creditmaster put a post on the board regarding "QUALITY fishing hooks cheap". Some of you saw fit to jump all over this member. Now I'm not going to quote posts or crap like that, you know who said what and who accused him of what but I think a lot of you should be really ashamed of yourselves and I think some apoligies are in order here! It turns out that this young man is only 14 years old and was trying to do nothing more than share what he thought was some good information. Instead of jumping on him I think it would be very fitting if some of the "SMARTER" members reached out to him and spent some time sharing their knowledge and experience with him. if these hooks aren't a really good deal, how about teaching him why! If it turns out that they are a really good deal then back him up and share with the rest of us! I'd really like to hear that he has been flooded with PMs of offers! Who's the man here?

Sounds like you are getting things fine tuned. Yes, keep that peanut butter well back in the trap so they have to get their head well in there before setting it off. The one that was dragged likely just caught the little bugger by the nose.

New Apple software update DON'T Install it!
Big Cliff replied to Big Cliff's topic in General Discussion
Well, lesson learned I won't b installing any more Apple updates until they have been out for a few weeks! I have to be honest with u, I do have some issues and I'm not too impressed with their technical support but the phones and such are very user friendly. For reliability though my Blackberry beats the IPhone hands down! In fact my son works way back in the bush in MB. His IPhone wouldn't work. My old Blackberry works perfectly! -
Something isn't making sense Beans. I have never had one get the peanut butter and not get nailed. One thing I did notice though, mine have the red V on them! I am out of town for a few days. When I get back I'll give u a call and bring my traps over for u! I don't need them, I've caught all my mice lol

New Apple software update DON'T Install it!
Big Cliff replied to Big Cliff's topic in General Discussion
I loved my Blackberry but Sue hated hers so instead of having two different phones I got us matching phones so that if she had a problem I could help her with it. Now we both have the same problems LOL. Oh well that what love does, we suffer together. -
New Apple software update DON'T Install it!
Big Cliff replied to Big Cliff's topic in General Discussion
Exactly what we have been talking about! Not a problem if you are tech savy but us seniors struggle with this stuff! Heck I remember DOS 1. Most of you young guys don't even know what DOS is! I learned to program in Basic, Fortran, Cobol, PLC1, HTMI, and I still can't keep up with the technology today. Mind you at 68 years old there is only so much this brain can absorb. -
New Apple software update DON'T Install it!
Big Cliff replied to Big Cliff's topic in General Discussion
Bull spit! Phones aren't even a year old, just bought them in Jan. this year. Carrier is Virgin Mobile, been with them for years, never had a problem when I had the Blackberry but since we got the Iphones tons of problems with dropped calls here at the house, can't ever remember having one with the Blackberry. Don't get me wrong; Iphones are much easier to use, wife loves her Ipad Mini, but when Apple releases an up grade that is obviously flawed and doesn't warn people that there is a problem they are not doing their job! Oh, and just try calling 1-800 my apple right now and see how long it takes you to get to talk to someone. Seems we are not the only people having a problem with the new update. Now that's customer service for you! -
All the smart and cute remarks are ok but in reality when I want to go fishing I always check with Sue to make sure it isn't going to interfear with other plans we might have. It isn't about asking permission, it is about being courtious and considerate of the other person. Sue would never say NO but she might point out that we already had another comittment that neaded to be taken into consideration. I suspect that many of you long timers are in the same boat, permission not, respectful yes.

New Apple software update DON'T Install it!
Big Cliff replied to Big Cliff's topic in General Discussion
From what I got from today was "DON"T INSTALL IT, THERE ARE PROBLEMS WITH IT". So, do as you will but be careful! I only wish someone had warned me before this morning! -
Wife comes to me with her Ipad Mini this morning (that was her first mistake) She has a notification that there is a new software update, so I hit install (second mistake). That went well but then her Iphone wouldn't sync with her Ipad because they were using different software. Smart me, no problem, checked for updates on her Iphone and sure enough it is available. HOWEVER...... you can't install it on the 4s because it requires 4.6 GB (phone only has 5 GB out of the box). Head off to the Virgin Mobile store here in Lindsay where we bought the phones (third mistake). After waiting for a good 20 minutes to get to talk to someone we were told that there is a problem with the new update and it is using too much memory, DON'T INSTALL IT!!!! Then they told me I'd have to uninstall the update on the Ipad. When I asked for help I was told "call 1-800 my apple". Then I explained that the Iphone and Ipad wouldn't sync properly prior to this; "call 1-800 my apple".! Then I explained that ever since we got these new Iphones we had been having problems with dropped calls when at home but we never had a problem with our Blackberries "call 1-800 my apple".! I walked before I got to 10 I'd be typing this on my phone from a jail cell! So, don't install the new update and if you are looking for service on an Apple Product don't go to the Virgin Mobile store in Lindsay, they might sell Apple products but they don't service them or offer any help with them other than "call 1-800 my apple"!

So a guy finds what he thinks is a really good deal and posts it on here. He even offers to supply some samples for assesment and he gets accused of being involved with the company, and just about called an idiot for using a cheep hook! So lets back up a bit; @ $5.00/1000 you should be able to buy some and check them out, you don't like them no big loss! You find out that they are a good hook, you just saved a crap load of money thanks to one of our members posting on here. Before you dump on the guy at least give him the benifet of the doubt!

Beans you are doing it wrong my friend. Do not put the peanut butter on the trigger, put it up inside the lid above the trigger, works every time and you always get a good clean kill that way. I keep 4 of those traps set around here at all times and don't even use the old wood ones anymore. Also, put them near a wall with the open side facing the wall so the mouse has to enter it from the side of the trap, again it will increase your catch/kill rate. let me know how that works for you.

Fingers and toes crossed! We'll throw in some prayers too just for good measure.

Those are some beautiful fish, congrats on your win, you deserved it!

A good friend of mine, a cop, actually told me once that: If you did decide to shoot at someone who was threatening your property or family make sure they are facing you when you shoot them and make sure you kill them!. If their back is turned they might not be conceived as a threat and dead men can't sue you! I find it really sad that our world is in the state it is, kids are brought up with no accountability, no wonder they have a feeling of entitlement. Take a a switch to your childs backside and your life gets ruined. (you older guys know what a switch is, how did you turn out?) We are a society of bleeding hearts, don't spank your kids, don't fail your kids in school, don't raise your voice to your kids, it isn't if you win or loose, it's how you play the game! BULL SPIT! If you really love your kids teach them life lessons: Your bedroom door isn't "your" door, it is my door, I just let you use it. Slam my door and I will take it away from you! (did that with my daughter when she was 7. Popped it right off the hinges and kept it for two weeks. She never did slam it again. Don't want to help carry wood in for the fire; no problem! Woops your bedroom window stays open all night, cold yes, freeze to death not! The rest of us work together to make sure we are all comfortable, you don't want to help carry wood, you don't get to enjoy the heat. (Did that to my son when he was 5, never refused to help carry wood again!) (Didn't freeze to death eather but it was cold) You ran up a $400.00 phone bill and now they are going to cut you off? You want me to pay it for you? NOT!. Yup, me again! Daughter had no phone for a few months until she could pay it off. Thankfully today both our son and daughter have turned out to be well adjusted self sufficient kids with their own families. The funny thing is that I now often see them doing the same things with their kids that we did with them. Love doesn't have to be unconditional giving, sometimes the best form of love is teaching, sometimes it is called Tough Love for a reason!

Advertise them and they will know where to find them when they want them! When we lived in Milton several houses in our area were broken into. I made up signs for our place and put them in clear sight! "Protected by D&G Security Systems". (It actually stood for Dog & Gun, I kind of made it up). Anyone seeing the signs had no idea what D&G Security Systems was, could have been an elaborite alarm system, cameras, could have been anything but because they didn't know what to expect and they couldn't see anything, they stayed away. Ours was one of the few houses in our area that didn't get broken into. Unfortunatly when we moved up here we didn't think we would ever need anything like that so we didn't bother. Hind sight is 20/20!

Don't know if I should be posting these jobs on here.
Big Cliff posted a topic in General Discussion
It just seems to me that a lot of our members have backgrounds in wildlife management and related fields and when I see opportunities like these I feel that they might get missed so I post them. Unfortunatly I have never heard of any of our members landing one of them. http://www.kawarthaconservation.com/resources/opportunities.html I realize that these are contract positions but I have several friends that started out on contract and ended up with full time jobs. Hope this helps someone on here! -
Nice to hear from you! Don't work yourself to death before you get to retire!

The loss of the material things hurts but it is the feeling it leaves you with afterwards that really digs in! The fact that someone would just take away from you what was yours leaves you feeling kind of helpless! I hope they get caught and some judge is having a really bad day when they appear.
