  1. If you are fishing a pier you do not need a license
  2. Peir fishing can be a blast and not expensive. Go to BPS and for $50.00 you can buy a rod, reel, and some tackle. Get some shrimp or squid and head for the local pier. I have caught so many different things and made so many good friends that way!
  3. What a beautiful memory has been created! Good on you, good for your son!
  4. Played with MediaMonkey, got to say that I am impressed! Works with the smart TV no problem, easy to use, and free. I'll look at them all though and let you know what I think.
  5. Thanks Lew, and anyone else that have had friends or family killed by a drunk driver. None of you came across in the wrong way but reading some of your posts reminded me what the real cost is! I am guilty of driving drunk; when I was a teen we always had a six pack (or more) on the seat beside us. We drank and drove all the time and no one ever seemed to get hurt. Maybe the cars were better built, maybe there were just less cars on the road, might be they just didn't go as fast, I'm not sure what the answer is. (I do remember sitting drinking with a couple of the cops when I lived in French River and we all drove home and made it) Quite frankly I think that anyone who causes injury or the death of someone while DUI should be charged with attempted murder or murder but this is not that kind of world. Anyway, it is far better to steal a cab than to drive drunk, just don't combine them!
  6. If this post offended anyone it wasn't intended to make a joke out of drunk driving or to treat it lightly. I have over the years called in several impared drivers and will do the same as often as I see it.
  7. Very nice!!!!! I have caught a few while pier fishing in FL but nothing near that size.
  8. Looking forward to it!
  9. With the Holidays upon us I would like to share a personal experience with my friends about drinking and driving. As you may know some of us have been known to have brushes with the authorities from time to time on the way home after a "social session" out with friends. Well, two days ago I was out for an evening with friends and had several beers followed by some rather nice Blanton's Bourbon. Feeling jolly, I still had the sense to know that I may be slightly over the limit. That's when I did something that I've never done before -- I took a cab home. Sure enough on the way home there was a police road block, but since it was a cab they waved it past. I arrived home safely without incident. This was a real surprise as I had never driven a cab before. I don't know where I got it, and now that it's in my garage, I don't know what to do with it.
  10. I have a hot smoker, cold smoker and a really good recipe for pickeled herring. Soooooooooo if any one wants to supply some, I'll do the hard part, you get half, I get half
  11. Thank you all for your suggestions and replies. This is going to be my winter project for the days that are just too cold for me to be out!
  12. It probably isn't legal but I was in court one time and a young lady had done just that. She claimed that she had been sitting at the light for at least 5 minutes without any other cars going threw and finally figured the light must be defective. Long story short: The judge asked the cop something about the light being a controlled light and the cop said it was. The judge said something about it not triggering and they let her go. Nice to see this thread being brought back up, some good reminders here.
  13. X2 Never believed in them, never needed them, put a set on Sue's car for her a couple of years ago and couldn't believe the difference. We now have winter tires for both our cars and would never do without them again!!! Better stopping better starting, doesn't make us more careless, just lets us adjust more quickly for the others that don't have them or don't know how to drive on bad roads. I don't care if they are mandated or not, I use them anyway!
  14. I used my 20V DeWalt last year on about 30" of ice with a 6" finBore 3 and drilled 9 holes on one battery no problem at all, I probably could have done more but that was all I needed.
  15. Drove by Scugog this morning, looked solid..... unti l!!!!! lots of places out there where you could see what looked like open water. I could see where a person could suddenly find themselves in serious trouble out there. Please don't let it be one of our members this year. It just isn't worth a fish or two.
  16. Thanks Beans. I am not trying to down load songs, I already have them on CDs and DVDs. I just want to be able to put them on my computer and organize them into something easier to use. Will look into MediaMonkey. Thanks!
  17. Just sitting here this morning trying to find a music cd/dvd in our collection and I realized that we currently have about 100+ CDs and DVDs. I would like to find a program that will allow me to dump all these music files and be able to reoganize them by artist, genre, remove duplicates by the same artist...... (well you get the picture) and then create my own playlists and burn them back to DVD. I do not need a program that is going to let me digitally alter the files or anything fancy, just something to organize them, I don't mind buying one (but free is better). Can anyone suggest a program? Thanks BC

  19. Funniest thing I have ever seen: A fellow driving a big white SUV: 401 east somewhere around Hwy. 6 S and you could see where he slid off the highway, just missed the start of the guard rail and dropped quite a long way down into the ditch. I don't know how he stayed upright but he did. Anyway I guess he figured it's 4 wheel drive so why not and he proceeded to drive along the ditch. He did pretty good too, you could see from his tracks that he'd made it about 100 yards or so. If he had made it about another 150 yards he'd have passed the guard rail and the bank was shallow enough he might have even made it back onto the highway but I guess he didn't see the little creek with all the long weeds. Yup, almost stood that SUV on it's nose! He was still sitting in it as I passed and it looked like the tow truck driver was trying to figure out how to get this one out because there was a guard rail between him and this SUV which was easily 50 or 60 yards off the road down a steep embankment nose down in a creek. Didn't look like he was hurt and I bet he was thinking he was pretty smart as he drove along that ditch until: OH CRAP!!!!! I'd love to have been able to stick around to see how they got him out LOL.
  20. Was on the road at 7 am, didn't get back to the yard until 10 pm. Lindsay to Scarborough to Cambridge to Tottenham to Beaverton and back to Lindsay. Best area was Cambridge, just a light trace, worst was Tottenham snow was deep enough there were several trucks stuck in the middle of Industrial drive. I didn't get out to measure it but I'd guess a good 15 - 18".
  21. Not fishing related but I have had plenty of them. I had a fantastic bird dog, a GSP. Andy was a champion both in show and in the field, he won so many awards we have a wall full of them. A friend who was also a photographer had asked me if we could take Andy out to do some field work because she needed some photographs for a project she was working on. No problem, Andy knows his stuff and I'm an excellent shot (she wanted shots of everything) so we load up and away we go. Beautiful day sun is shining we get to the area I want to hunt and let Andy out while I get my stuff ready, then it happened; I realize that I had grabbed my 20 ga by mistake but I had brought my 12 gauge shells, we are miles from the nearest place I can buy ammo. Then, to top it off Andy is nowhere to be seen, I start looking for him and sure enough he is locked up solid on point on a beautiful male phesent. I flushed the bird and poor Andy just stood there looking at me like I was nuts because I didn't even fire at it. I think I really broke his heart when I I loaded all of us back into the car for the ride home. I have to say I was pretty embarrised!
  22. Sue wouldn't dare try to pee over the side so if she does need to go she just uses the live well (I take any fish out LOL) then I just turn on the pump and flush it out. Might be a good one to keep in mind
  23. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7E-47VmFopE I thought this one was kind of fun.
  24. My sister is there right now, my nephew owns a large car parts supply chain of stores there. I will send her an email and see what she/they can suggest (she loves to fish but I think she is coming home next week or she'd probably arange to get you out.). I'll see what I can find out for you. Send me your email address to [email protected]
  25. This has been a really good thread with some real eye opening strategies from a very diverse selection of backgrounds. The one thing that has come out of it (for me at least) is that many seem to be planning or at least trying to plan so that they have unlimited financial resources for ever. I am at the age now where some friends are taking that last long walk into the sunset. Some worked hard, invested wisely, scrimped and saved their whole life and in the end left a nice little pile of money to their kids and families. Sadly, while their intention was good, the results too often are that the families end up squabbling over who is going to get what and how much and it ends up getting pissed up against the wall anyway. Others tended to enjoy themselves, spent what they made, made what they needed, lived for the day and left not much more than wonderful memories. The funny part is that they seemed to have the families that fared better with their passing and were sincerely missed. For some reason they were also the ones that seemed much happier with their lives. Strange world we live in! I guess I am one of those people that will probably work until the day comes that I can’t put on my boots anymore. I don’t HAVE to work, we have enough equity in our home and investments that we can be comfortable with just our pensions. It might mean that we wouldn’t be able to do some of the things we enjoy like going out for dinner to a five star restaurant once in a while and we might have to budget a little more. I do enjoy the extras that I get by working and I really enjoy my job. That might sound strange to some of you but we are all different, some enjoy sleeping in every day, some enjoy their afternoon naps or like watching fishing shows or soaps. Me; I like interacting with people, doing things and at the end of the day I like to feel that I accomplished something. My best days are the ones where I have been able to do something to help someone else in some way. I have been very fortunate to have been blessed with two wonderful kids, a dream of a wife, many wonderful friends and good health. God saw fit to give me the ability and opportunity to experience many of the wonders of this world. I wake up every morning wondering what today will bring not how much money will I make or lose today. It doesn’t mean I don’t have some bad days but it’s never about money!
