  1. Sounds like a fun day. I've been on St. John a couple of times and have always caught fish. Nice smaller lake close to TO... Mike
  2. Very cool photo! I've seen ospreys take sunfish (or maybe it was a small bass) but not a fish as big as that... Mike
  3. Nice pike, I'd heard there were pike in Grenadier Pond but had never seen one pulled out of there. Mike
  4. Wow, sounds like a great weekend of musky fishing. Congrats on trying something different and finding fish... Mike
  5. Beautiful musky, Lew, sounds like another great Lakair g2g. Hard to imagine what it would be like to see a Nipissing monster if 48" is only "nice"! Mike
  6. Heard the story this morning on the radio, a good deed on their parts... Mike
  7. Congratulations! A very impressive milestone to celebrate with family & friends. Mike
  8. Thanks for the tip, downloading it now... Odd that I didn't get a notice about it in Firefox... Mike
  9. Awesome first catch, she sure looks happy! Mike
  10. Great report, and congrats on finding a soon-to-be wife who likes to go on extended fishing trips! Mike
  11. Awesome report, sounds like a great week with lots of action. Must have been something arriving at the meeting pt and learning that there was still lots of ice on the lake. Mike
  12. Great thread guys, I'm learning a lot just reading previous posts, esp. from guys with way more experience than me fishing for muskie or trout. My fave spot on spot has to be a rocky point with deep water on one side and sandy, weedy shallower water on the other. Hold off it with the trolling motor, cover it with a fast lure like a spinnerbait or crankbait, then fish it more slowly and carefully with a jig. Had some great times on these kinds of spots... Mike
  13. The first lure I ever bought was a Rapala floating minnow. Caught lots of fish, and still one of my fave lures. Mike
  14. What a great story. Really puts things into perspective. Hope he achieves his dream of making the cut at a national tournament soon... Mike
  15. Not to hijack a thread, but what should I expect in a heavy-duty deep cycle battery? I bought one last year to run a transom-mount trolling motor, and am wondering how many seasons I might expect before I need a new one. Mike
  16. I'd say around 5 to 5.5 lbs based on the size of that mouth relative to your hand and 24" length. Nice catch! Mike
  17. Very sad news. Can't imagine being the father who survived this terrible accident... Mike
  18. Love the pictures with your family, Clive. I think our sons are about the same age. Looks like you are enjoying fatherhood as much as I have been... Mike
  19. Another beautiful story about the OFC community, great to hear everyone had such a good time... Mike
  20. Thanks guys, I didn't think of calling Aikman's. I've gone to them in the past for reel repairs, so I will give them a call and see what they can do. Mike
  21. Hi everyone, I got a Quantum Kinetic PTi and an Abu Garcia spinning reels a few years ago, and both came with spare spools. The spare spools were in a bag of mine that was stolen, and I'm trying to figure out if it's possible to replace them. Thanks, Mike
  22. Awesome, that smile is priceless. It'll be a few years before we can take our boy out to catch his first fish, but I can't wait! Mike
  23. Sounds like a really fun day, thanks for the report... Mike
  24. Hi all, posted a while ago about a cottage we were going to be renting on Kashawigamog, but we had to rebook because of a scheduling conflict. We're now going to be at a cottage on Little Redstone Lake in late July. Any OFNCers know this lake and willing to share some general advice on what kinds of structure to look for? And if you happen to up around that time, let me know if you'd be interested in meeting for a few hours on the water... Thanks, Mike
  25. Well, turns out we won't be going to this cottage because of a scheduling conflict. Looked around and rebooked on Little Redstone Lake. I'm going to start a new thread to ask for advice ... Mike
