  1. I think it's a bit like fly fishing for me....fish or no fish just making the perfect cast is pretty good on its own too I'm a fan of calling my fish....she's gonna be right about there, perfect flip, BAM! right where she's supposed to be.....haha, pisses my buddies off
  2. jig n pig fish always tend to be quality fish for me....usually better than average and there's just something about making a perfect pitch to that tiny little spot way back in there, line twitches, hammerin back and pulling out a big fat bass....love it
  3. no way, good non stoppage....look at the guy, he has the ability to take more than a few heavy hits, he weathered the storm and let carwin gas himself out...
  4. well a coyote is a wee bit more of a challenge/smarter than a domesticated mutt that was obviously just curious and not looking for a meal....yotes work in a pack, see it all the time, one of the smaller ones yipping at our pup and trying to draw him into the bush where the rest are waiting
  5. that cat was awesome, my cat would've done the same...lol too many people just let their dogs run deer in the bush....looks to me like that doe got some payback
  6. take that massive snap swivel off that crankbait!!!!
  7. good on ya for fighting it out...hope you enjoy your new crucial
  8. lots out there similar to this one....popular with saltwater fly anglers...UV protection and to protect the fingers from getting burnt on a big run.... http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_15183_151006001_151000000_151006000_151-6-1
  9. it's not nature taking its course...it's a non native invasive species that was introduced....unlike other introduced species which have worked out very well we know it won't be that way with asian carp.....we don't need to see how it will play out....we know how it will play out, ie: Mississippi river... read up on it...do you really want to chance the great lakes ending up like that?
  10. my personal experiences from shimano canada in ptbo, ON is not good....highly rude and cuties on the phone...most recently they sent me a rebate cheque that was not signed and bank won't cash....good luck trying to get them to re-issue a new cheque.... best bet is having the irvine office make a few calls to shimano canada
  11. speaking of bring things back....Doritos Texas Tang....those were good
  12. haven't heard of them in ON yet...popular in QC and I've seen them at costco in AB
  13. try and get the rap f2 in your hands....as I'm sure you could guess I'm a big fan...paired with a 1000 sahara it's a beauty combo
  14. re: no pics....when you're on foot in the bush and you're stalked by a 150 lb cat, is grabbing your cam the first thing on your mind?....bangers and knife is what goes through my mind first..... even in their highest concentrated populations you rarely see one inside of 100 yds, you need to have the right lense to get a pic of it and you only have a few seconds to snap the pics.... pics can be altered and will always be argued....DNA/scat is firmer evidence IMO
  15. solid point...and for me my UL's all get used a lot so I don't mind shelling out a few extra bucks for high end...biggest thing I notice with a high end rod is the sensitivity and crispness of the blank, makes a big difference...
  16. reason for UL is it's about balancing and sensitivity...sure you can throw a size 0 spinner on a medium action rod with 2 lb line if you want...but it's not the same as throwing it on a proper outfit...balanced outfit will cast further and be more sensitive...you need the lighter action rod to cushion the hookset and not rip hooks out...gives more fight out of the fish
  17. it's called a rental boat safety checklist: http://www.boaterexam.com/canada/education/pdf/rental.pdf but good on the above mentioned marina for only renting to those that have the card, not that the exam really means you learned anything....
  18. excellent to hear that...I have a strong opinion of rapala rods based from speaking with their own reps but also due largely to what other reps from various other manufacturers have said...rapala rods are the best bang for your buck on the market right now IMO...worth looking into
  19. with most high end brands a lifetime warranty and expectation of claim(s) is factored into the selling price of their product
  20. just bought a new UL myself...didn't like the compre, didn't like the action, kind of like an old school noodle rod, like a limp noodle....I ended up getting a rapala f2 7'...much crisper than the compre and felt a bit lighter to me.....although if I could've found a better selection of st. crois or loomis I would've gone home with one of them....
  21. a guided trip is well worth the money...but if you can't afford it or hesitant to drop that coin I'd suggest joining one of the many local fly clubs that are around...clubs are full of experienced anglers willing to share info, many clubs hold casting clinics, river trips, fly tying nights, etc.....
  22. IMO most tapered leaders aren't even all that good...very generic and limited in lengths...I'm mostly turning over 12-16' leaders which I've never seen in a store, you can play around with different lengths, diameter and diff material leaders and see how that affects your turnover....price of 3 leaders you can buy 3 spools of material and tie easily a dozen leaders
  23. pike or musky regardless use a quick strike rig and set the hook immediately...don't let them swim and swallow it
  24. I wouldn't splurge on expensive, tapered leaders as chances as you will go through your fair share of wind knots and tangles as you progress through the learning curve...plus everybody should be able to tie up their own leaders if need be on the river....buy a few spools of leader, learn a few knots and good to go knots: perfection loop - leader to fly line or nail knot if you're not a fan of the loop to loop system blood knot, double uni, surgeon - all can be used for attaching section of leader together...I like surgeon for the thicker material simple leader formula - 50/50/50 - 30/15/8 lb test of roughly same length....when you're learning stick to a leader not much longer than your rod....lots of leader formula charts on the net
  25. IMO a CO isn't out to nail guys to the wall and issue a fine for every tiny thing....but there is a big difference between an incidental catch and targeting an OOS fish...where you draw the line between incidental and targeting is up to that CO on any given day but you can take precautions on your end of it....
