  1. I feel your pain there, truly do....I've watched two of my back woods honey holes be destroyed over just a few years, lakes that me and my buddy worked hard to find, road access was rough but gentle enough most trucks/suv's would make it but the actual access points were well hidden and not overly well known....constantly bumped into the same group of 6-10 guys over the first 3 yrs taht knew about these lakes and they were true honey holes that changed very quickly....I firmly believe the destruction was the result of being leaked on online forums....in both cases it only took one post with directions....powerful impact oos poaching, islands vegetation heavily destroyed, live trees cut for firewood, disgusting amounts of garbage...and here's the real kicker....jet ski's on the lake and a party houseboat on one long weekend changed the way i post online after that... on a slightly positive note the last few yrs I fished the one lake I saw a CO 3 times one season, smart ones too, had teh glass on us for a while before they approached, good to see......also a sign posted about oos bass fishing and how to identify bass and pike....assuming that enough complaints to the MNR resulted in this action don't feel totally hopeless, take pics of the damage, report it enough times to the mnr and it might make a difference...
  2. crappy pic but do a bit of research, it's a legit fish...wisconsin dnr first netted albino musky in 2005, heard of a few since then, all smaller ones though and all netted by dnr...i heard musky magazine is running this article in their dec issue
  3. mysis shrimp patterns are hugely overlooked and work very well...google search should bring up some recipes, easy to tie i'm personally a big fan of soft hackle wet flies, don't see them fished too much anymore adams, royal wulff and march brown are all good dry flies to master...mastering dividing calf tail wings has never quite happened for me, ha, long winter to practice ants patterns are killer late summer to early fall are you looking for jsut anything to tie? or you want patterns for fall/winter fishing? post some pics, let's get a thread going and see what everybody is tying up...all 5 fly fishers on OFC...lol
  4. what do you mean "look innocent".....all buddy was doing was clapping and of course probably running his mouth but he was a home fan and that's part of the game....rypien is a goof, hope he gets suspension and a fine....he shoved sedin, too didn't he??? I'd be severely pissed if i was that fan
  5. shoot before you buy and speak to somebody in the know, get it setup properly for you and you'll enjoy it a lot more...I'd consider buying it across the border too, your 800 bucks would get something nice
  6. mojo...w&m is not known for quality, especially in my experience...and st. croix is a better rod IMO and has better warranty
  7. this time of year you can definitely hook into chinook, browns and bows
  8. I'm a recent big fan of Amundson myself...you picked up one of their best blanks too...just one problem, you got your reel setup on the wrong side..ha....be careful with the spey, it's can be very addictive
  9. planing the winter vacay, might head back to the mayans...post some pics after your trip so i know what i missed out on....good luck
  10. i stayed at the riu yucatan late last march....didn't think to pack a travel rod but bumped into some guys who were casting williams spoons from shore and doing well....some resorts don't allow it but if you're up early enough from 6-8am you can get away with it mahi, baracuda, snappers and sailfish was what buddy told me when i booked a charter....7 days and every morning i managed to drag myself out of bed at 7am, piers by 8 and 5 days in a row cancelled by 10 due to high winds...last day said enough with it and slept in, turns out it was good winds if you book from the resort you'll be overpaying but for some the convenience factor is worth it...5 US cab will get you anywhere you need to go, i walked around the docks and haggled...got a great deal and refunded my money when the trip didn't work out....i booked my charter in a NICE boat for 60US, if you try and fill the last seat of a charter you have more wiggle room to barter
  11. frontier would be in your price range too
  12. IMO 60 is fair but not great for the president...I have the president and trion for ice reels....bps usually has a fall sale, that's when i got mine, president was 50 plus tax
  13. i'd recommend staying away from the okuma rods, garbage, wet spaghetti noodle...their aventa reels are good bargain for an entry level pin...streamside and quantum both have good rods at entry level prices that are way better than the okuma rods buying quality used will get your further ahead than buying new junk...with a used centrepin you can always replace/upgrade the bearings...i did my last one at the shop in woodstock, think he paid me a few bucks for my old bearings and my aventa spins forever now, cost me about 40 if i remember right
  14. and these same guys cry when they lose their jobs...they made north america the most expensive place to produce anything...go cry to a union rep about ANYTHING, go cry wolf to a doctor and get a letter for light duty or stay at home, steal as much as they can, claim a drug problem(when they get caught) and get paid for it, have the union fight for max benefits and sick/vacay days so they can stay at home, abuse the system any way possible... what a JOKE my old man worked in the ON auto industry his whole life...I grew up around this...I worked epoxy flooring through college, GM, honda alliston plant, ford, did big jobs in all of them....I've worked the plants in the summer....obviously there are guys that work hard and it's a shame they get looked at in this manner...but factories have the worst work ethic I've ever been exposed to
  15. I've picked them up at a carpet and paper supply stores, free of charge few words of advice: -you'll be fine on a roadtrip but do not trust UPS/Canada post with your rods in carboard, pay extra to insure full value of your rods or go heavier with pvc piping -if you're transporting more than one rod buy soft cloth rod sleeves or get the cheap plastic ones...your rods will vibrate and rub against each other during transport, very least will scratch and scruff up the blank...if it's bad enough i've had rods snap at exactly those spots -pack teh ends of the tube with a sock or bubble wrap...if you brake hard while driving you won't snap a tip off...or if some canada post ass is living out babe ruth dreams with your rod tube....
  16. haha...isn't that true anybody ever hear of fire morels? grow in coniferous forests but they explode in burn paths following the 1-2 yrs after a fire....I'm not the biggest fan of shrooms in my food but these things are amazing and if you can't find any to pick IMO worth splurging at least once in your life to try them at a restaurant
  17. streamside and quantum are both good steelie rods for the money, over the counter warranty is worth the few extra bucks over your budget also check the online classifieds, this time of year lots of stuff goign up...I've picked up two st. croix wildriver rods in the past while, one for 80 and the other 100...one new in plastic the other like new condition
  18. considering dollars involved BBB is free to file a complaint....I haven't been through small claims court yet but I'm assuming that a lawyer will be involved to file or deliver papers? minimum one billable hr i would think my last complaint involved shipping my fishing tackle across the country, 3k, one month of calling did nothing with the company, less than a week after filing my BBB complaint i had it delivered...worth a shot, if anything it displays his diligence in attempting to resolve the issue before resorting to court action, displays blatant disregard on the business owner and would strengthen his argument before a judge
  19. first and last ice is typically best bite on nip, you have to work hard and fish the prime bite times otherwise...we've always stayed with rob hyatt, regardless of fishing always been a great trip, top notch operator bay of quinte might work for you guys, not sure about accommodations that provide a kitchen though bancroft to haliburton area is full of brookie and laker lakes as well....we were looking at one a few yrs ago but ended up nto happening but we would've stayed in cabins and reasonable walk to the huts
  20. better business bureau would be my first action...I've only resorted to filing a complaint twice in my life and after BBB contacted the business all issues were resolved in less than two weeks
  21. you can rock a canoe while in the water and get most of the water out and then reboard...it's tricky, especially hard for full figured individuals, but it is a skill that i deliberately practice a few times a season/every new canoe a reboarding device, ie ladder, is required if the gunnel height/height that must be climbed to reboard exceeds 0.5 m
  22. for sure a lamprey? american eels are often mistaken for lamprey....
  23. great pics....far from a pro myself, somewhere along the learning curve..ha...but wondering on your macro shots, are you shooting free hand, high iso maybe?...if you tried with a tripod or really stabilizing your shot and shooting lower iso you could probably reduce some of the noise in the pic...something that's helped me
  24. big air indeed...would've been sweet to see him land it, did he ski it out? great pic too, were you in boat as well or on a dock, pretty stable if you were in a boat
  25. lots of sentimental value for sure, interested myself in this topic...before and after pics would be great to see...all the best with your project
