  1. if you want light and breathable, and got the cash to burn, arteryx is hard to beat, not designed for fishing but crosses over great
  2. damn, I hope you raised a stink about that, plastered your story on every fishing forum too as for the kicker vs electric, the minn kota is nice for fishing and precision trolling, following contours or steering adjustments if running both at the same time (not than uncommon)...but I don't think my batteries would get me back to the launch at the end of the long day, I've had outboard failure twice and my kicker was slow but I trust it to always get me home
  3. bear meat is delicious when cared for properly, and there are many uses for the fat...in most jurisdictions it is a legal requirement to keep the edible portions of the bear being a muscular animal, it can be tough if not properly cooked and does best when ground up as burger, slow cooked ie: roast and of course sausages or smoked hams (my personal favourite) as a general rule of thumb, salmon bears (not a prob in ON) and dump bears are not the best table fare...a fat fall berry bear is the best black bears are not endangered, the hunt was sustainable in the late 90's and is sustainable today, even bio's supported the hunt....political propaganda tugging at the emotions of uneducated people is what killed the hunt.....sometime about 20's yrs ago hunters tried to compromise and hide what we do, but that backfired horribly...give the anti's an inch and they'll take a mile....the same stuff is happening on the west coast right now, all because the media and first nation's made a stink over an NHL'er who legally harvested a bear 90% of what P3TA spews is pure Bull and myths, the other 10% are "stats" either manipulated to support their own arguments or paid for by P3TA dollars in the first place....ask P3TA how much they donate to wildlife conservation or land protection if you fish, you are cut from the same cloth as hunters, no different through the eyes of anti hunters (probably worse, hunters take home what they kill, anglers torture those poor fish and let them go to torture over and over)...everybody on this board should be supporting the black bear hunt
  4. it is definitely a chore to find small jig hooks I have some size 12 tiemco's with a 45 degree eye, I tie them up using the beadhead/pin method, not sure if they have a 90 degree but maybe something to look at if you want small jig hooks
  5. if you can't find them locally, I used to buy the same hooks at wholesale sports, don't order online but I imagine it's comparable to any other shipping but I got to say, I stopped using them because they'd pull open on me on big fish using 8lb braid, depending how small you need the gammy 90 degree jig hooks are better imo
  6. huge fan of the gulp products, even hanging them on a tip up...just be careful if you're ever fishing waters with a bait ban, per BC and AB regs gulp is classified as bait
  7. uncut is the best, they have a refreshing format...lots of good stuff on youtube that beats all the crap on WFN...I always thought Al Linder did a good job explaining what/how he was using a product without being too excessive on the cheesy advertising...the next bite is pretty good too
  8. my buddy has a 3 yr old jiffy, bought it new and he seems to have issues getting it to start from day one I bought an eskimo z51 2 yrs ago, best auger I've ever used, reliable and cuts quick (busted the handle from an impact, warranty was easy and fast)....I drilled holes for a couple guys with a jiffy my last day out, so maybe they do have some issues I have experience with strikemaster and eskimo, almost bought a jiffy but glad I didn't, I used to think they were leaders in the ice auger world, maybe not now
  9. hats off to you, cleverly written....just food for thought here, but this may not be a joke in the future, as this is happening in BC right now (well, minus the cozy gas fireplaces LOL) B.C. legislation would allow oil and energy companies to conduct preliminary research in parks: http://www.vancouversun.com/technology/legislation+would+allow+energy+companies+conduct+preliminary+research+parks/9506336/story.html http://www.sierraclub.bc.ca/our-work/mining-energy/spotlights/widespread-outrage-as-bill-4-becomes-law-paving-the-way-for-pipelines-in-bc-parks
  10. LOL I was trying to find something on the parks website myself....didn't get all the details of the story, but being in mining I always immediately focus on the enviro vs economy aspect well played sir!!
  11. slightly better than half a nickel lol not against citify camping, I can see the value for young families and many other urbanites, if it gets more people outside to experience the outdoors then that is a good thing....rugged bushman like all the members here don't need to visit those parks if that's not their style and 60M isn't nothing to scoff at, I'm sure the parks could find something useful for it.....I'm not against utilizing our resources, it's our largest asset, but industry can certainly improve HOW they do it
  12. Speaking on condition of anonymity because of a recent clampdown to media policies, two scientists from Canada’s Natural Resources ministry said that, “Further study, and at least a triple the spending in additional safety measures will be required to truly protect the Ontario’s parks from potential spills” If this project, or any other pipeline, followed this advice, I think the public perception of these projects would be better received.
  13. looking at a new toy right now, dealership said their lenders are around 6-7, but up to 29.99% for recreational items, depending on credit...I sure hope nobody ever signs off on 20% ouch, most lenders will try to sell you on monthly payments, don't fall for that if you really want it, finance it, have some fun
  14. buy an extension pole, the heavy duty models, fairly expensive brand new ($200ish) but my old boss would buy them used from rental places then get a cheap donor net, remove handle and bolt onto your extension pole...or buy the rubber basket, bend some conduit to fit and bolt that on...it is stronger than any net I've seen in stores
  15. this thread sparked my interest as well, found this article on it http://www.walleyecentral.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-159471.html
  16. instead of leadcore, how about copper line? would need a dedicated rod and reel but gets down faster I believe hand lining originated on the st clair, no? they used that stuff back in the day, my grandpa always told us about his buddy who lost a finger when he hooked a sturgeon hand lining, I heard that story about a 1000 times growing up lol
  17. dang, now my conscience is kickin me....in hindsight here, gotta give her/any girl props for having the confidence to share her body with the public to be drooled over/criticized....I was friends with a mildly successful model in college (paid promos, runway, print), she had severe self image issues and she was beautiful, like 11 out of 10...very sad stuff and I guess most guys won't ever understand that aspect and like jedi mentioned, that pic is horrible, lighting and pose are both awkward... but she should get bonus points for being into fishing
  18. so it's appropriate she's holding an ugly stick?
  19. does the minn kota version have a deeper reach than the power poles?
  20. networking is a year round affair never too early to explore leads and make some new friends, opener ain't that far away now
  21. as in access to river through private land? that's a generous offer indeed, likely make some friends real quick like that
  22. dang, used to be 14.99....but I don't think my version has 1ft contours, definitely be worth the extra few bucks...been using the app a lot more this winter, best thing on my iphone
  23. if you know the yotes/wolves are there and want to snap some pics....setup in the area with your dslr and throw out some calls, highly opportunistic and won't turn down an easy meal even in the middle of the day....the fox pro's are worth their weight in gold, work very well...but so does manual calling and much cheaper that a foxpro, doesn't take long to learn a few calls
  24. still not sure how you get that impression???...it sounds like he got dealt a crap hand by the justice system, that article doesn't suggest anything about his character or being a bad dude http://www.theatlantic.com/national/archive/2014/03/freedom-after-30-years-on-death-row/284179/ I think the IRS might still tax the compensation...there was a bill presented to change that a few years ago, remember it stirring up a controversy, not sure how it ended...if the person was physically injured while wrongfully imprisoned it was tax free, but if he wasn't injured while in jail he got taxed on his payout...something along those lines
  25. where do you read this? he was prosecuted because he used to work at the store, and of course he is a scary black man all the news reports I read were something similar to this: "New information corroborated what Ford had said all along: that he was not present at nor involved in the November 5, 1983, slaying of Isadore Rozeman, the project said"
