  5. Without exception there is a seagull that will eat them of you throw them out in the lake. Seaguls have extraordinary vision and can descend from great heights for a free meal. If you don't beleive me throw the stomach in with the swim bladder in tact to float the remains. They will be gone before you know it. This assumes daylight hours cleaning of fish. Do not bury. The hot fire is OK in a pinch but the water has always been our solution. This also ensures the nutrients stay in the lake's foodchain. Something to ponder.... "A native american tribe up in Oregon believes that the spirit of the fish lived in the bones. If you returned the bones to its original body of water that spirit could be reborn. But if the bones were not returned the spirit would be lost forever. Puts a nice metaphysical twist on the cycle of life."

  9. If you retreive the bat they test it for Rabies but this takes a few days. So as a precaution you will most likely receive the first few shots. If you can't positively ID the bat you get them all. The shots are no longer in the stomach. They are intramuscualar and the vaccine is very viscous so they hurt.
  10. Be very careful handling bats. They are a major source of rabies. If they bite you you will require shots of vaccine. My son came into contact with one at camp and we are now going through the shots. I think there are 10 shots in this protocol. The Public Health Unit tracks these cases closely to ensure no one gets infected.

Updated: Fri Jun. 18 2010 10:24:52 AM http://toronto.ctv.ca/servlet/an/local/CTVNews/20100618/georgian-bay-search-100618/20100618/?hub=TorontoNewHome The Canadian Press MIDLAND, Ont. — Provincial police resumed their search today for two young men who have been missing since a boating accident Wednesday on south Georgian Bay. Const. David Hobson says police boats and divers are looking for the two men in their 20s who disappeared when their small fishing boat capsized in choppy water. Local residents have been helping police with the search. Hobson says police boats and a helicopter, along with a number of officers patrolling the shore, found no trace of the men on Thursday. A 21-year-old man who was in the boat that capsized off Christian Island made it to shore.

  21. Regardless of what people think about Harris or Nippissing conferring an honorary degree what business is it of the Teacher's Union to: a. Stick their nose in the decision. b. black ball students from a particular institution..I can't believe this is true and I think this may be illegal. c. Why does the union think it is a good idea to publicize this message. P.S. Mike doesn't give a damn he is home and dry with a nice pension. Pretty good for a golf instructor. Also doesn't the teachers union have more to think about like... a. Double dipping by retired teachers b. Summer vacation ..... That's all Ive got to say about that....Forrest Gump

  23. Great story. Glad you took the time to tell us. One of the best things I have read in awhile. Thanks for sharing.
  24. Dodgeville, WI The story involving Dan Droessler of Platteville, Wisconsin and a hungry tiger muskie is one right out of the "Can you believe it?" file. Dan was dangling his foot over the side of his canoe on Twin Valley Lake when a 36-inch muskie decided it was time for a snack. The bite, naturally, startled Dan, who jerked his foot (and the fish) out of the water and into the canoe. But the story doesn't end there. Sporting 60 new stitches in his foot, Dan agreed to be interviewed by a local reporter. He told the writer he kept the fish and planned to have his unusual trophy mounted. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources stepped in, however, confiscating the fish with the explanation that it wasn't caught on hook-and-line and that it didn't meet the 40-inch minimum length limit. Droessler pled his case, though, and was allowed to keep the fish after paying a $10.55 special permit fee. This isn't the first time a muskie has chomped a human. Back in 1995, a 14-year-old Minnesota boy, swimming at a public beach on Lake Rebecca, was bitten on the right hand and wrist. He was leaving the water during a routine safety break called by lifeguards when the fish attacked. The 38-inch fish was netted by fisheries personnel and relocated to another part of the lake.
