Does higher gas prices = more fish taken out of our lakes?
oxcowboy replied to bassfighter's topic in General Discussion
we are still making our north trip come hell or highwater ! that is at least this year. lol on our trip we usually put in close to 2500 miles. ive been going to elk lake for over 15 years on our annual trip, to me it just means i need to save up a little bit more before we go. as far as the fishing it will be the same as always for me. we split everything 4 ways and that helps out alot on the gas and cabin. i have heard that their is consideration to ease the taxation on accomadations to lure people into camps, not sure if it went through or not. i figure alot of the camps and resorts in the north are going to be hurting from the high gas prices, and understandably so. our fuel bill will be almost as much as our cabin for the week. i do plan on taking a limit of deer this year. we are allowed to kill up to 6( 1 antlered) white tail per year. with the rising cost of food, it only makes sense to fill the freezer with vinison, plus my boys and i love it. jason -
i think i read where they take the top ten vote getters and then interview them with a pannel of 4 judges to determine the final winner. not sure exactly how it works. jason

hi, my cousin just told me today that his group has booked a stay with meta lake lodge. its a fly-in just outside of nakina. none of his crew has ever been, so i told him that i would try to find some info for him other than what the web page has. has anybody ever stayed there? how is the fishing? any particular lures to take for pike? any info would be great. thanks for any input. jason

sounds like a great fathers day gift for you and your dad, dont hesitate to get out there with your dad, you never know how much time you may have left on this earth, make the best of every moment you can. my dad is still able to get out to our farm pond, but any big adventure is out of the question for him now though, but we still enjoy the time together. now its more about talking than fishing with us. jason

hey folks, i have a 1981 3.6hp merc that just doesnt seem to want to idle down very strong, it runs good while opened up, but when down to a low idle it gets kind of jerky and pingy. i was wandering if i ran a little seafoam through it might clear it up some. i have never used it before, and didnt know how well it worked. thanks in advance for any input. jason

neat, there is a guy near us that is doing something similar with flesh eating beatles to clean deer skulls. when they get done, there is nothing left but a fleshless skull and some beetle manure, a quick scrub and they looked as though you had bleached them. jason

good job, that doesnt sound bad at all for the first time on the lake. jason

we have had a real wet spring here in the midwest, so its been hard to get much fishing in with our creeks overflowing so much, but i have managed to get out some and spend some time with family as well. here it goes. started out going to one of my favorite creek spots looking for a few catfish to fry. it was a cool evening on the creek and got a late start but ended up with a few little kittens but no cats that night. since there wasnt much size, they all went back to bite again another day. my next adventure was to bass pro shops near cincy to get a few lures and a new tackle box, it was also a chance to get my group of guys that going to elk lake later this year to get to know each other. i know them all but the other 3 had never met, figured if they are going to spend 10 days together they should at least get aquainted a bit. loaded up on way too much stuff, got the few things i needed and then some, even a little food plot seed for the deer for later on this fall. had to replace my old boy, i had it since my college days but it was getting pretty broken down and too full to make it another trip. my next outing was more for fun than fishing for me, i took my boys out for their first boat ride of the year, loaded up my little 10 ' tinny on top of the xterra and went to the creek to run my motor and get them into the swing of summer. my crew- the fishermen- kelby ethan not much was caught, ethan lost a little smallie at the boat and kelby got himself his 1st stripped bass, but the boys had alot of fun just being in the boat and putting around. the evening ended up with this nice shot on the horizon. sorry wrong sunset pic lol and finaly we got into some nicer cats. my brother and his son came up for a couple of days last week to drop off a new bull for our cow herd and get some cows ready to do some embryo transplanting. we also busted our butts building fence together but was able to fish out of one of our ponds one evening. my brother got things started with a respectable blue cat then after about half an hour i got my first one. another blue just a little smaller ten minutes later my first shovel head (flat head) and at the end of the night i got another decent shovel head we put them all back in the pond again, had alot of fun and just spending time with my brother was great, that was the first time we got to see each other since early april, and got a few fish to boot. well thats about it for the report, hope you all enjoyed. jason

im 34 years old, grew up in the country on my family's farm along the ohio river about 60 miles east of cincy. graduated from Morehead state university in ky.(near cave run lake for you musky guys). i got my degree in agriculture education. i have been teaching agricultural science and horticulture for 10 years. i also have coached varsity softball and jr. high basketball. i also own a 200 acre beef cattle farm with my brother. often joke that im on vacation 9 months a year and work 3 months, because the farm work i do in the summer is way harder than the teaching. lol teaching is the perfect job for me, i get my summers of to work on the farm and although it isnt the best paying job, the benefits are great, plus i love working with the kids and trying to make an impact on their life. very rewarding when you know you have made a positive mark on their life. jason
