  1. I first joined because of the quality of the fishing banter that used to go on here. Then there are Solopaddler's and Moosebunk's epic reports. Stuff most of us only get to experience vicariously through this forum. It seems a lot of the more friendly banter has disappeared. Sad really. I wish I was contributing more fish reports, but life just gets in the way sometimes. I'm sure that is true for many others. I know some have given up posting reports thanks to the flamers and perfectionists. Ice down here is anything but consistent, so I fill my time making more tackle. Taking a few minutes to scan OFC is a great break from bending over my vice and bench. If Nothing worthy here, I switch to viewing Simon's videos on youtube.
  2. Enjoy every minute of your adventure. Congrats on taking that leap to live your dreams.
  3. I know that if those were my grandchildren laid in the ground, I would never be satisfied till the culprit's dead and mangled body was hanging from a tree. Driving while drunk is not a mistake. It is a reckless and criminal choice which others paid for with their very young lives.
  4. The crumbled bacon is spread in with the cheese. Can't add the fat as it would prevent the egg from sticking to the pasta. I save bacon drippings for browning meat in other dishes
  5. As OIM said, quick and simple is often the best. Nothing better than a 20 minute pasta dinner. Pasta al carbonata is simple and delish. Fry some bacon til really crisp and crumble it. Boil any pasta you desire. While cooking the pasta, whip together 3-4 eggs, salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, diced oregano and parsley. Once cooked drain the pasta quickly, Then while steaming hot put back in the pot, stir in the egg mix. No heat required. Egg mixture will cook right onto the hot pasta. Add whatever cheese fits your appetite My lunch favourite was pasta al olio. A blend of EVO, lots of garlic, dried mushroom, chopped chive, oregano and basil, poured over the hot drained pasta and dressed with cheese. As for cheeses, parmesan is O.K. Personally I prefer finely grated friule or shredded asiago. Regretably, that does not happen often. My family has no taste for things that are different and, often, finer.
  6. This kind of crime used to get swept under the carpet when I was growing up. Kids would be blamed and the teacher quietly transferred. I'm just glad to hear that the police are catching up to some of these bad apples. We had a deviant teacher in our high school back in the 70's. Teacher had molested some of the girls in the hockey team for a few years. Got away with it until he molested a cops daughter. The police came down on the school like a ton of bricks in a rare show of force back then. They went straight up to his classroom, put him in cuffs, and paraded him out the school during lunch for all the students to see.
  7. Definitely a grade "A" post in my opinion. Nothing better than family time.
  8. Police enforce the law as written. They are not there to interpret or pass judgement. That is the jurisdiction of the Crown and the courts. There have been similar occurences in the past. Man bleeding to death with his leg ripped wide open after a freak accident at a party. Drunken friend rushed him to the hospital. Got charged with impaired at the Emerg. Charges were quickly dismissed by the Crown. Last thing we need is for police to become judge, prosecutor, and jury.
  9. All the usual panfish species for icefishing are present. Be very careful There is, as many mentioned, a lot of current. Some spots are never safe on that lake. Would hate to hear that someone else had died through the ice on Six Mile. I lost one friend there a long time back. They never recovered him til spring.
  10. There is also a fishing/ outdoor show in Ft Erie on March 13th at the community centre.
  11. Saturday April 2nd. Hours of 9 - 2. It is a great show for deals, meet up with small manufacturers, guides, etc...
  12. So glad my wife is still covered after retiring from work. Tween the 2 of us, we look at $500 a month for meds. Repeated surgeries, cancer treatments, therapies, hospitalizations, etc... every year for the past 8 years. We could not afford most of it without the extended health package.
  13. Must admit I was spoiled. Have a good chunk of childhood memories from living with my uncle in Dartmouth and Oyster Pond/Jeddore. Then there was the stint as a cadet at Cornwallis touring round the entire province as a bandsman. We played local festivals and events from Sydney across to Yarmouth for a couple of summers. I have done 2 family road trips in the province, but never more than 2 weeks, and never with time to do Cape Breton.
  14. My uncle is a regular at the Dutchman's. I receive some nice shipments of Dragon's Breath and Growler every year.
  15. Congratulations on the newest member of the clan. Name him after your biggest role model in life, whomever that may be.
  16. Last time I was there, you could still fish any govt landing in any harbour. Squid jigging off the Lunenberg dock was a blast. Always people shore fishing out by Eastern passage. Watch out for the sculpin. Fish stripers from the mouth of the Margaree on Cape Breton
  17. To give Nova Scotia fair justice, you need nearly a month to see all she offers by following the coastal circuit. For only a week, I would focus on Halifax and the South Shore. Give yourself 2 days in Halifax to take a harbour excursion/go fishing out of Eastern Passage, tour the waterfront, Museum of the Atlantic, etc. West of there is Peggy's Cove, Mahone Bay, the Ovens. Lunenberg should be given a couple of days as well. You can also pick up a whale watching excursion there, or go jigging for cod and mackerel.
  18. Detroit river in May. Hit the Thames this spring. At least one visit into the Kawarthas or Muskokas I'm in K/W every week. Maybe I'll take some time to actually fish the area.
  19. I'd move further north in a heartbeat. Sadly I'm outvoted 3 to 1 by my family
  20. Have a nice house to live in, in a good heighbourhood. Regretably, the landlord and the neighbouring bakery are having a pissing match. Next thing I know neighbour has involved the town, and the town now wants the back quarter of the house torn down or a new foundation built. Either way we get put out the door. At least I have a good 3 months to find another decent home.
  21. Nice to hear you had a successful outing, Cliff. You deserve it.
  22. There used to be huge pigs at Ontario Placer back in the 70's. I was a cook back when HMCS Haida was a cadet training facility. You should have seen the size of the carp rising to eat the leftover toast every morning. We caught a couple of 4 footers on bread balls hanging off the ship's side when we dumped the toast.
