Or is the MNR web site pooched ? Been trying to get on all day
-
I been freezing my left over minners for years .... and then use em in the winter for ice fishin .... I dont salt em ... just dump the water and stick the bag in the freezer .... caught some big-ash Lakers on last years suckers/shiners etc. Just saying Honestly though I would say you would be better off going to your grocery store and buying some frozen herring (chop em up if necessary) ... lots of old timers caught lots of monster lakers on grocery store herring !

Actually that last one looks alot more like a (salt-water) mulllet

Great stuff Roy ... you guys are doing a fabulous job ........ but ....... if ya really wanna impress me ...... give me my old OFC club skin back .... I just feel like a traitor on this board when it doesnt look the way it has since I was knee-high to a keyboard

Well .. with these warm temps I am not sure about getting out on the ice (for lakers) ... but gonna give it a try over the next few days ... can't skate in this heat anyways But starting next week its the high protien - high carb - high octane diet alll the way to the puck-drop ! -
Not if you carry an ultralight in your bag (and give up the 3 iron

So here's the scoop sports fans .... I could go ice fishing in beautiful Muskoka on Monday Jan 28th ... or I can play for the Toronto Maple Leafs Alumni at the Powerade Centre with the likes of Darryl Sittler, Darcy Tucker, Gary Lehman, Mike Palmateer (coached by Johnnie Bower) ... Any guess which choice I've made ??? Anyhow any one wanting to see a long-in-the-tooth OFNCer don a Leafs Jersey (once and probably only once) ... let me know (tickets are also available at ticket master) I can assure you this opportunity came not because of any particular on-ice skill .. other than the skill of giving to charity But I am right now headed out to the outdoor rink - stick in hand - to see if I can last a shift or two with some of my HERO's !!!
-
Was planning on heading to Muskoka this weekend to try my hand on 'thin ice' for some Lake Rosseau brutes ... but the latest forecast for Saturday (at least down here) is 17 !!!! ... I'm already polishing up the golf clubs !

Is the old 'skin' gone ... can't seem to find where I set that

Mine is a Black and white (after much discussion it turns out they use a lot less juice - so the battery runs longer (especially in the cold) ... I take it out regularly at -20 or colder ... and normally get at solid couple days (15 - 20 hrs) on a charge for those little $25 12V gell cells... I take a spare and (try to) keep it warm to swap out if necessary Oh .. and btw ... I clearly mark both minnows AND a single split shot at 60 feet when on the ice .... I can tell when a fish is coming into the areas even before it registers on the screen because I can literally SEE the minnows get active

I think I paid about $500 for my Humminbird 565 a few years ago .... went to buy a second transducer this summer so I could have it permanently mounted on the new boat and found that for about $175 I could get the whole unit (Humminbird 570 - (but without the portable ice cover/battery kit) ... great unit IMHO ...
-
Ahhhh yes the old '70 Valiant slant six ... could see the highway through the floor-boards ... and always carried a can of WD-40 on cold days .... I called it the 'flame-thrower' .... and my first car .. '69 Camaro Z28 ... fill-er-up-and a quart of oil please ... but yes ... two of you get get in under the hood
-
Gonna head up to Lake Rosseau next weekend (near PortCarling) ... will let ya know ... but I am betting its still a little dicey ... be careful out there
-
Yup ... I have watched (ran and dove - but missed) more than once when a big laker has cruised straight through and taken the whole kit and caboudle down the hole ... more than once... they don't always hit 'lightly'
-
Yep .. my ice picks have a cord so that they can be hung around my neck and tucked under my survival suit ... they're no good in the hut if you venture out for a walk

Merry Christmas and all the best for 2013 !

And dont forget that after drinking 108 million glasses of milk (and probably an equal quantity of Brandy) to wash down around 216 million shortbread cookies ... there's gonna be a SERIOUS burden placed on infrastructure ... sure hope somebody logged a call with the Works department
-
Ya knowwwwww .... if it wasnt for the 'extra padding' .. it could be Roy !!!! And if it wasnt for the smile and the Bass ... could be Lew !!! Just sayin'
