flying squirel nest in my outboard, what to do?
chris.brock replied to chris.brock's topic in Non-Outdoors Open Discussion
on the evolutionary scale I put flying squirrels at the top, in the middle are red squirrels, and at the bottom are the big black and grey ones found mostly in the city thanks guys, yeah Fisherman, when I saw the nest I immediately freaked and looked to see if wires and plastic stuff was chewed but it looked like fine, looks like they just wanted the shelter my wife was googling, if you have to care for them at that age you've got to feed them with a syringe every 2 hours, 24 hours a day, lol I'm leaning towards Tom's train of thought, I'll build a birdhouse basically, use an extension ladder and get it high up in a close by tree and relocate the nest and Hubei, Wuhan and huawei in there one morning and hope for the best -
stay the blazes home!

I went to do a top end oil change on my outboard. The outboard is on the boat and it's parked in the bush for the winter. When I took the cowl off there's a nest with 3 young flying squirrels on the fly wheel cover. They look young, pink, no hair, they look blind. I just put the cowl back on and left. I know a lot of guys would just say drown the buggers and be done with it, that's not my style. Anybody have any insight on how to relocate them and give them a chance for survival? funny, my Mom wanted to see the little critters, when I went back and opened the cowl the mom squirrel was in there and came blasting out like a bat out of hell, lol

valid question, I know I'm not following protocol staying up here, here's my reasoning- -we have a small fridge, no chest freezer, we can't hoard food -if one of us gets sick, they drive back to the city to isolate, we have 2 vehicles up here -the govt hasn't waived my taxes on my cottage, I've paid plenty of taxes for the last 25 years, unlike the chinese that started this mess and have a safe haven in Canada although they don't pay any taxes -I'm looking out for number 1, our gov't is an incompetent mess, my wife and son are my first priority, my wife can go to the Minden grocery store early morning and there's hardly anyone there, the Freshco near me in Oakville is a gong show with empty shelves and none of the hoard of shoppers speaking English, who knows where they've been -there's way more to do up here without bumping into other people, we made maple syrup, we wander around in the bush, catch fish, we actually trained a red squirrel to scratch on our door, and come in to take a peanut from our hand and then leave, my son and I have made crazy memories because we had the time on our hands, he wasn't in school and I wasn't working, I think we're going to look back on this thing with fond memories basically, I'm looking out for my family and don't give a F about anything else

you should be staying the blazes home, lol yeah, maybe the american cottagers, and marinas closed = boat access cottagers are buggered

there hasn't been a legal law prohibiting it for the last 5 weeks? why the sudden influx today?
-
kinda funny, I've been pretty much up at my cottage for the last 5 weeks, looking out over the lake tonight, it's quiet, but with all the lights on it looks like a summer weekend, it's the most people up here since this thing started by far, and the weather isn't even that great I guess trudope and scheer travelling last weekend sent a message, lol

I'm gonna quote myself here, I posted what the CO had to say because I found it interesting and thought others would find it interesting too, I never said it was my personal opinion

Things that I'm Doing to Keep My Sanity! LOL Part 1
chris.brock replied to David Chong's topic in General Discussion
Nice David! hopefully the chats went well The guy with the muskie, I'm guessing the boat he's in is named the Kingfisher? If it is, I bet he's in Port Severn? lol -
I bumped into a CO this afternoon, I bombarded her with questions for 2 minutes this is in Haliburton (cottage country), but what she said- check the municipal website to see if anything is closed, otherwise go nuts, fish away, trailer your boat, launch your boat, whatever, just no gatherings of more than 5 people

Wuhan Honda back to production
chris.brock replied to misfish's topic in Non-Outdoors Open Discussion
so being realistic, why build if there's no demand? -
Wuhan Honda back to production
chris.brock replied to misfish's topic in Non-Outdoors Open Discussion
This is a global crisis though, I'm guessing there isn't many people buying new cars lately because they're preoccupied and maybe suffering with what's going on, so unless they have a backlog of solid orders, I doubt there's a rush to get back to production I wouldn't be surprised if there's a recession from the many personal and company bankruptcies due to this china virus I don't think there's a demand for new cars right now -
Yes, made in Canada really does matter, in this crisis, and also when there is no crisis and everything's normal, being able to produce stuff and being a seller is the way to prosperity, not being a constant buyer of chinese crap what I have taken from this- the people we have elected and the people they use for guidance are terribly incompetent

I don't think that's the case. I think our politicians and medical officers got caught with their pants down and now their heads are spinning trying to close the gate after the lion has already got out.

What happened? I got a pretty good idea what happened There's been lots of great Ontario outdoors people here, great anglers and great characters, people who have done lots of crazy trips with crazy experiences because of their obsession with fishing, they fish 24/7, who have found this site and then have been pushed away by the old boys club group of guys that treat this forum like their own personal blog and shun anyone who isn't in the original club. that's my take on it, if you scroll through the list of members you'll probably wonder- what ever happened to that guy, and that guy? where did they all go? Ric's alive and well, I see him on FB, I've got lots of friends on FB and I don't really know who they are because they left here and didn't keep their handle and sent me a friend request because of our interaction here I'm not calling you out Dax, quite the opposite, I liked how you guys butted heads, it was entertaining, it was the bullying, pile on, you're not one of us boys club mentality that killed a bunch of good posters here it is what it is, a personal blog for a small circle of friends, outsiders not welcome

good post, important topic the older I get, the more cautious I get and the more I think about this stuff because of all the stuff and close calls that have happened while in a remote setting I think the most important thing is a way to communicate to get help if you need it here's our ride out from a remote canoe trip that went wrong because we had a Spot Sat Messenger I know a guy who had no communication on a fly in trip, his father in law died of a heart attack on the 2nd day and the weather was 30 C plus everyday for the rest of the week I buried a big siwash into the back of my brother's head a few years ago on a fly in, thank God it wasn't his eye crap happens, a way to communicate and get help is important

there was caution tape and signage around he ignored, the cops were hiding and popped out and yelled for him to come over, he was close to his house and jogging by himself
-
I think their intentions are good, they are listening to their medical experts and saying STAY HOME!, but as politicians they are inherently dumb and now they are over thinking, a bad combination
-
Nice slab! And yeah, the cops have been instructed to enforce. My uncle got a $750 ticket today for jogging by himself through a park by his house.

Like Terry's story, I had a good propane tank fill yesterday. The lady is in the office, I put my tank on the scale and move away. She comes out and fills my tank with gloves on and leaves. I get the tank and put it in my vehicle. The door is open to the office, I walk in, she's on the other side of the room, I tap my credit card and leave without closing the door. I disinfect my hands and credit card before getting back in the car. We did a transaction and never came within 20 feet of each other.

I watched a guy come out of the grocery store, I guess the mask he was wearing was itchy because he immediately yanked off his mask and began scratching around his mouth, lol

I went ice fishing to a back lake with a friend a couple days ago. We both agreed to keep our distance and did, but there was definitely a chance for transmission. We shared 1 axe (auger), minnow bucket, ladle (scoop), I borrowed a hook, we passed close to each other a few times on the trail and around the campfire. I don't like rules, but to help the politicians mitigate the problem they created out of ineptitude and incompetence, I'm going solo until this pandemic subsides

my parents are elderly, my grandma is really elderly, if there is any problems with them I swear I will be arrested for getting in trudeaus face, I’d love to smash his face right now, he’s a spineless pos
