Aba is short for Abazotikichuan, a native guy up there said it means "banks lined with poplar" in Ojibway Leuenberger's has the only camp still standing on the lake, although they haven't used the camp for quite a few years, they gave up on it when the economy slowed and somebody stole the front door off the cabin I hope to get back there someday

I'd say try to avoid the hwy 60 corridor, start at Tim, Rainy, Kiosk, or Brent. You can choose a route and campsites for the check-in procedure, but once you get going, you can change your plans, ie you want to cut it short, or go farther, there will be plenty of campsites in the interior even close to the opener if you guys will get a kick out of catching trout (late May, early June), it's not that difficult if you're persistant, sometimes it can be easy, for lakers just troll or drift anywhere, flatlining with a Williams spoon, for brookies, pretend you're fishing for bass, casting the shoreline, around fallen trees and beaver lodges, boulders etc, use a Mepps #1, or small spoon (Cleo in burgandy and brass is one of my favorites) if you're going early, I've got a brookie hotspot I can PM you, it's pretty far in though, all you have to do is let'em go and don't tell a soul

yeah, maybe, but that's cool you're taking care of your toys, alot of guys (me included sometimes) just park their stuff under a tree and forget about it, it's worth the effort to do things properly

I've been to Ogoki Lake twice also, we caught more big pike on the mid August trip than the early June trip, the bugs and weather was way better but the walleye were more scattered Billy Bob, is that Aba on the Albany River? I've been there twice, what an awesome place, Frenchman's Rapids and the inflow of the Opichuan, I still dream of that place

awesome looking G-Bay muskie, nice job
-
really, how do you know that?
-
there was an old Mantracker post on this site, a guy from North Bay (I think?) had some inside information, I think he said the prey camera guy is some super-athlete who doesn't affect the prey, and there are some scenes that are shot after the race

Brook Trout Nirvanna: Fishing The Sutton River

I know I've said it before, but I'll say it again, you are a lucky man, you should consider writing a book, with so many adventures under your belt, the trips and information should be documented -
yeah, Terry was great, he made the show the new guy (don't know his name?), looks like a stocky, neanderthal, but with a high, squeeky voice, he doesn't mind grabbing his rope, jumping off the horse, and running after prey when the bush gets thick, unlike Terry
-
great sign, Gary does suck hard
-
when I heard the original tracker (Terry Grant) was leaving the show, I thought Curtis would be the best replacement. I like the new guy though. I thought they might choose a "Hollywood", don't really know anything, try to emulate Terry, guy, but the new guy's good. any other opinions?

I'd take the "lots of 5 to 10 lbs walleye" claim with a grain of salt. I've never been to Esser, but have spent some time in the Ogoki river (I don't know if you guys went upstream from Ogoki Lake at all?), and kind of got a feel for it, the better fishing was in the lake Esser would be alot smaller than the water bodies you've fished in the past too I'd really be interested to hear how you do, if you do go, there should be some brookies to be caught there too I think that outpost is under new ownership too

Dry Pine Bay is just east of 69, it's a pretty busy section of river, could be tough for walters
-
I'd say use an outfitter for gear rental and help choosing a route, but a guide isn't really needed and it would be more of an adventure by yourselves, just be careful of rapids if doing a river, and wind/ waves on big lakes (especially if it's early season and the water's cold) I'd say go a couple weeks after the opener for trout, that's what Algonquin is all about
-
Parks Fly-in out of Hawk Junction (this side of Wawa) is well priced ($700 for a week), and has some great camps with good walleye and pike fishing, the drive is less than 10 hours from the GTA which is alot easier (and cheaper for fuel) than the 14 plus hours to Nakina. I've used them twice and had great trips with no disappointments, great outfitter Mike would be the guy to talk to about specifics http://www.outpostcamps.com/

interesting stuff, hopefully the work they've done helps you would think they might control the upstream dams with the consideration of the spawning walleye in the spring I know in Haliburton, they are careful not to leave lake trout eggs high and dry in the late fall by opening dams too much also, I'm sure over harvest has affected the walleye population that's a legendary, Ontario walleye area, stories of 20 plus pound walleye, hopefully things improve there

A Lac Seul muskie? ummm, tasty, or walleye?
-
great report, looks like you guys had a great week, I've always wanted to try that area
-
Any opinions on a single axle, open, landscaping like trailer. Is the stuff at Canadian Tire or Home Depot ok or junk? thanks
-
I won't be up there, but I wish I was, I think this weekend will be prime for muskies give us a report when you get back
-
type "gizzard shad" into Google Images and see if that looks like what you caught, I've caught them below Dunnville
-
I'd like to catch a salmon, but not a clue on where to start

are you in a boat or from shore/ piers? -
wow, that's brutal, I also didn't know that but also wondered this has a good chance of being the second time without NHL hockey, for an entire season, with the owners under the leadership of Gary "the little weasel" Bettman, there's not alot of money coming in for the owners when the lights are out and the seats are empty and there's Dancing With the Stars on TV, you think they (the owners) would give him what he has coming to him (at the very least that would be losing his job), yeah, I had a long day at work but I'll say it for what it's worth, I'd like to hurt that little snake Bettman

let me guess, a mech. eng. working for a company with unionized workers?
