I think this guy (Tayzak) is the guy you want to talk to

if I can avoid towing a trailer, I do, trailers have bearings, lights, tires, add weight and add complications in my opinion, I would put the canoe on top Lucas
-
sad story, sounds like you guys were good buds

good nobody was hurt on the Monck Rd, old 503 now 45, from Orrilia to Norland, I counted 6 buildings with the roof caved in, mostly old barns, crazy winter this year

somebody wanted me to dig this stuff up, so I thought if I was going through the effort I'd post it here everyone who has done a fly-in knows this feeling prior to departure, excited anticipation the inflow of the Attwood (Portage) River was a steady producer all week it's a magical spot the big pike seemed to be in a negative mood, they did seem to turn on a little on our last day, I bet the next party in camp had a good week if the weather remained stable I like looking for pictographs not documented before, here's some faint ones, on a secondary route near Skarrot Lk, poor picture though a highlight of the trip was the day me and my brother towed a canoe down to the outflow, and lined it down a few rapids, the air was warm, the water was cold we found what we were after fat and healthy, and they fought hard all square tails released breakfast time for everybody all seasons are great, but digging through this stuff makes me look forward to summer

as I wrote earlier, poaching is 1 thing, a couple beers, riding without a helmet, no insurance slip for your sled, or towing without a rigid hitch is another (that's just my opinion, right or wrong, it may not be your opinion, I'm fine with that) I originally wrote this because I thought the stealth tactics and K9 unit was interesting and it would be interesting to other readers Craig is a great CO, he can stop by my place for a beer anytime edit- I'm ok with this tread being shut down

I like Shags posts, keep'em coming I was thinking similar scenarios when Terry said he reached for the machete

totally! I've dealt with Haliburton County before Mattaw, it might be less painful banging you head against a wall good luck though, -
Weekend at Bernies from a newbies view.
chris.brock replied to misfish's topic in General Discussion
looks like a perfect small town Ontario weekend, nice report -
If I was fishing Kesagami in the winter, I'd fish that hole right in front of the lodge, I'm guessing they would be stacked in there like Terry, me and some buddies got tangled up in a bit of a mess- Happy Day Lodge, near Chapleau, Windermere Lk it's dusk, a boat blasts up, it's a guy we have chatted with who is staying at Happy Day also guy- "the MNR is here, I've got a couple extra walleye, do you want them?" us- "no thanks, we're good" knowing the MNR is around, we stash some empty beer cans on a small island, fish for a while, then head back to camp we get intercepted by the MNR, they search the boat, and find an empty beer can that rolled under the sub-floor, a life jacket they deem to be to old and tattered and an insulated mug that smells like booze, they say go back to our cabin and they will come talk to us back at the cabin, they grilled us trying to get information about the guy with extra walleye, this went on for over an hour, threatening us about our infractions, playing good cop/ bad cop etc, I had a moment of clarity I guess, why are we defending this American guy, obviously poaching, and putting ourselves at risk for a fine over an empty beer can? CO- "did you see "guy" out on the lake?" our party had denied that for the last hour but I said "yes" CO- "what did he say?" from then on I just answered everything honestly long story short, "guy" got a big fine, his wife got obstruction of justice fine, we got a warning interesting thing, the COs took me outside and said "Do you want to come spend the night in Chapleau? Are you worried for your safety because you told the truth and went against the others?" me- "not worried at all, they're my friends, thanks though" the next morning we picked up our empties from that small island edit- I thought those COs did a good job, I respect them, I even corresponded with 1 of them a couple times after this incident, great guy

no hidden agenda here, the stealth tactics and the K9 unit I found interesting, I thought others might too, I was also interested in finding out if a CO can fine us for beer? maybe somebody knows about this? anyways, fishing was a little slow, no fish over the slot were entered for a 2nd straight year, I caught 1 late, just under the slot I should have kept and entered because it likely would have won some money, I lost 1 that felt like it had some weight (just a fish story now though), while the COs were there I caught and released a slot fish while we chatted

there's not many cottagers in the derby, mostly local residents with a bit of a red neck attitude and for right or wrong, a general disregard for the MNR and COs I'm pretty sure there will be a few who boycott next year poaching is one thing, a couple beers, riding without a helmet, or towing without a rigid hitch is another (in my opinion)

There was a derby for the Legion in Coboconk on my lake yesterday. The COs decided to show up, knowing there would be lots of people to check. Pretty crappy in my opinion, next year when the turn out for the derby goes down, the Legion can thank the MNR. some interesting things- -they appear as normal snowmobilers, heading down the lake, then come blasting up, to catch you by surprise, each CO talking to each hut, to see if the stories jive -there was 2 COs and a dog handler K9 unit, he said the dog is trained to sniff for 13 things, one of them being slot fish hidden in snow banks, when the dog approached me, I tried to greet it, the handler yelled "DON'T PAT HIM!", I guess he's on the job -we had beer and empties from previous outings, they didn't even acknowledge this, I guess they can't lay charges? -we were fine, no problems, they leave, I grab my cell to let everyone know to watch out, a neighbor is fishing in his hut close to an island, the MNR parks behind the island, out of sight, and creeps through the bush, I'm assuming with binoculars, to secretly watch a guy I was talking to at the Legion said he was charged by the same CO for $9800, a duck hunting incident, ouch!

I enjoyed reading that, good report it must have been pretty toasty in the hut if you can get down to short sleeves
-
good point, but no, my cottage is right there and I can see the parking area and lake from my front windows- I watched them go out and set up, they were there 2 consecutive days, and unless they were trying to hook a submerged cable with 8 lb test, they were ice fishing
-
some of your bill must go to help fund these guys going ice fishing for the weekend too I wasn't going to post this, but I just opened my hydro bill and had a change of heart
-
some guys will say you'll need 4wd for launching the boat, I don't think so though, get 4wd if you want it for snow or off road stuff sounds like you might a little over cautious, I don't think it has to be that complicated and doesn't require a super heavy duty tow vehicle I like diesels (I wish more car/ truck models were available with diesel engines), but I don't think it's necessary
-
great report, nice walleye
-
it has been a rough winter, that's for sure, that day looks like a good example, good for you guys for toughing it out, I'm sure the getting together aspect made it worthwhile

Does anybody know of a good barometer they have been happy with? It's hard to tell good from pooh with online shopping and reviews -
4 days 5 lakes (2 were NF - No fish)
chris.brock replied to Rod Caster's topic in General Discussion
very cool report I've never cleaned a ling, I've heard old timers say not to take the meat around the rib cage because it was "poison", any truth to that or no just no meat there? -
my wife loves the frogs, mainly because she can fire them right into the alders and then twitch them out without getting hung up (Haha) I'm probably not the most technical fisherman, although I believe in patterning the fish each day, some of these new baits are designed to catch the consumer not the fish
