There is at least one, located on the land between Stormy and Hazel.

Very nice! And that point and shoot may have its limitations, but so long as you work within those limits you can still get great shots.

I noticed more than a half dozen different types in the bin. And they all have the 80th anniversary stickers on them.

Dropped in to the Vaughan Sail store today, and there was a sale bin of various Rapala lures all priced at $5.99 Picked up a couple, might go back for some more.

What would you do if you won the lottery? Maybe NF
Dave Bailey replied to Old Ironmaker's topic in General Discussion
I thought about that, but nixed it. The higher education would be nice, and I wouldn't object, but, so long as they appear to be handling the whole windfall idea with some maturity (they're all legal adults now) I would probably object to them getting a job. It sounds noble, at first, to tell them to get some experience in the working world, but there is one problem: They won't need one, and some other poor slob will. I am assuming, of course, that the win would be enough to set them up for life. Let's say it was the $60 million biggie, that would make their share $12 million. Heck, you could bank that and live off the interest quite comfortably. Wise investing could give them a crapload more, so that when inflation inevitably eats into it, they would still be set. -

As in, you're clear? Or are you being sarcastic about bad news? Congrats if the first, good vibes flying your way if the latter. I've often thought about it. First thing would be to divide it into 5 equal amounts; one for me, one for my wife, and one for each of our three children. From my share I would give a significant portion to my brother and sister. Then I would start some serious industrial-strength relaxing. Travel? Definitely. I would love to retrace Darwin's voyage on the Beagle, and perhaps take a camera crew and have it broadcast live. Next, Australia and New Zealand would receive extensive nature study and pub crawling. Then the British Isles from top to bottom, east to west. That small area has an incredible mix of geological structure. And pubs. Oh, and the Whisky Trail in Scotland. Canada would not be missed. A lazy boat trip along the Trent-Severn from end to end, the Rideau, and all around the Great Lakes. lots of interesting small towns to experience. And pubs. Newfoundland, always wanted to see L'Anse aux Meadows, the Viking settlement. And I hear there are some great pubs. Lots of plans, lots of plans... But no money. -
http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/windsor/upper-thames-river-spiny-softshell-turtle-1.3618568 Apparently poaching is exacerbating the problem. Other than fish, the only other aquatic animals that may be harvested in Ontario are snapping turtles and bullfrogs, but only from July 15 to September 15, and only in certain Fisheries Management Zones. If you see anyone collecting anything else, no matter where or what time of year, they definitely ARE breaking the law by poaching. If you see such activity, you can call crime Stoppers 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), or call the Ministry of Natural Resources Tips line at 1-877-TIPSMNR (847-7667)

...that they aren't going to catch anything.

Nice! Rescued one from a certain squashing yesterday, it was trying to cross Highway 400. Moved her in the direction she was going, of course, which was away from the water. Hope she made it back okay after laying.

I've never been a concert person, just wasn't my thing. When I heard this, it was like a kick in the gut, and a concert seemed like a great idea. But I would not enjoy it, knowing the reason and the outcome. It would be too painful. But I may do something different. When Gord passes, as is inevitable, I plan on driving up to Bobcaygeon, and watching the constellations reveal themselves, one star at a time. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o6QDjDPRF5c

The double entendre followed by the Newfie rum reference have blown my mind. No reply is possible. Might be time to sign off the interweb for good.

Yes, evil incarnate. Next question...

Good news - science has shown that you were born nice!

All the paleoanthropological evidence we have indicates that Homo sapiens, our hominid ancestors, and even our pre-hominid ancestors, evolved as social species. That implies a natural tendency for co-operation, understanding, and just plain getting along. As a comparison; we are wolves, not coyotes, lions, not tigers. Altruism is natural, and being nice, while a little fluid depending on social norms, seems to be innate. (If the above comment seems a little 'high brow', it's the spiced rum talking, alcohol brings out the pseudointellectual in me) And yes, kids are AMAZING! -

Simon, watching Jack grow up has got to be among the better series of posts that I have ever experienced on any board. I'm certain that everyone here looks forward to every post. Keep 'em coming!

Nice bluegill! And they ain't just scrappers on light gear, they feel like fighters on anything. Years ago we were fishing the long reef that extends from the bottom of Chiefs Island on Couchiching, and the sunfish there were as big as dinner plates. Every one felt like a smallmouth fight. Ton o' fun!

Hey, leave my sex life out of this! -
The whining is bad enough, but it gets worse when you realise that it cheapens the real suffering of victims of genuine abuse. SMH

Feeding time a week later, and regurgitation at it's finest :)
Dave Bailey replied to Joey's topic in Photography
Nice, but... That last one isn't regurgitation, it's a poop pellet. Imagine using your mouth to clean a diaper. -
Common as muck, but they are beautiful. Ever get really close to one? That orange around the eye is really pretty up close.

SHAZBAT! I can remember when you could buy a new car for not much more than that. Yes, I'm that old.

According to a wildlife message board I frequent, people were recently spotted removing turtles from the Speed River, presumably for consumption. Harvesting of snapping turtles and bullfrogs, and only those species, is allowed in that Wildlife Management Area, but only from July 15 to September 15.
