What's the best braided line for baitcasting?

Good advice. I do spool up under tension but after several casts the line is not wound as tight on the reel. Usually this problem happens after I have reeled in a fish or heavy snag after a couple of long casts where the line is not as tightly wound, which can cause the line to dig in a bit. I like Terry's "tape" tip! Cheers Ted -
Time to spool up now that the spring fishing sale season is upon us. I am a huge fan of using braided line with fluorocarbon leaders on my Shimano Curado, while set for light braking. One problem i run into frequently is that the braided line tends to dig/bind into the spool especially on a hard wound retrieve. This often results in bird-nests on the subsequent cast. PowerPro seems to work a bit better than Fireline in addressing this. I would speculate the 'rounder + more strands in the braid would help reduce this. I read somewhere that both PowerPro and Fireline use 4 strands. I also heard that there are other brands with 8 & even 12 strands? I would like to know what you think & have had experience with. I have been using 20-30lbs braid to get up to larger line diameters. Cheers, Ted

I did buy a new truck built here in Ontario this week... The economy is temporarily down but I have lived through a few of these recessions. Human nature is such that we will learn & prosper from this. It will be tougher than the past recessions but it will put things back in perspective, e.g. family, health, reduced materialism. Think of this as a period of self-correction and an opportunity to reevaluate what is important and time to work toward towards it...

Two guys were hiking through the bush when they spotted a bear. One of the guys reached into his pack and pulled out a pair of Nikes. His friend looked at him. "Do you really think those shoes are going to make you run faster than that bear?" "I don't have to run faster than that bear. I just have to run faster than you." There will always be an economy. I believe in continually developing your marketable skills/education so you can "run faster than the other guy".

I was a Humminbird user and upgrade to lowrance 2 yrs ago. I now have the previous version of the 522. IMHO Lowrance has superior performing products while Humminbird has more features. I'll take performance over features any day. Cheers Ted

Awsome ride Lew! Your are going to love the ride of a glass boat on those rougher days. The longer length will make for a nice ride too. Cheers Ted

Over 12 years we had bought 9 new GM vehicles. Without going into why (that's been beat to death) I switched brands & bought a 2005 Pathfinder....I love(d) that truck, power, towing, snow, 4wd w stability/traction control...it was amazing. I found the service experience the same as GM (not great). With 147K now I was looking at new Catalytics ($2,300 due to "bad" gas??) body work and general maintenance to the tune of $6,000 total. Hence my decision for a new vehicle was financial and desire for high reliability. It felt like the Pathfinder wasn't going to last as long as I hoped for. The point is while it was initially a good quality vehicle, I think it would have long-term quality issues. I hope the Honda lives up to the accolades I hear, I am excited! Thank all of you for your very kind comments! Cheers Ted

After lots of research I bought this: http://image.internetautoguide.com/f/auto-...a-ridgeline.jpg Selection Criteria was: 1) Quality/Reliability per consumers reports 2) Tow at least 3,500 lbs 3) intelligent/auto 4WD 4) fuel economy 5) utility 6) fit in my garage (full-size was to big) 7) Good commuter vehicle - (I drive downtown TO every day) And it's built Alliston Ontario to boot! BTW: I used carcost.com and paid $500 over list, e.g. saved more than $8,500 off of MRSP.

I'm looking at a new vehicle too. My #1 choice right now is a 2009 Honda Ridgeline VP. There are some good deals out there. I've heard great things about it.

Navionics Gold (usually they throw in "Fish n' Chip) There are marine grade nav charts covering larger bodies of water, for smaller lakes I use Topo Canada on my Garmin

I am debating whether to go north (Wollaston) to fish this weekend. They are calling for -20 to -30 or colder (-31 now). How cold is too cold?
