  1. Nice report. You'll have fun playing with the camera underwater. Most important, great to hear you've won your battle.
  2. For any waterbody that is not listed in the exceptions section you follow the general regulations and open seasons for that zone.
  3. My understanding is that in order to be a private pond where he owns the water it must be entirely contained within the property. So if the pond does have an outflow that flows through a culvert, and into a natural waterway somewhere than he cannot own the water. So you can cast from the road like you did. But I'm honestly not 100% sure on this, so maybe someone will correct me.
  4. Bingo. Unfortunately I agree with you, not the best way to get lower prices but this is what will happen. I think we're going to see this up and down cycle for the next few years or so.
  5. Sorry for your loss, condolences to you and your family.
  6. I still remember being introduced to fishing at a trout pond. Seems a long time ago now, but definitely started in getting me hooked on fishing. Always good to see the next generation of fishers learning the ropes.
  7. There's a really interesting book out there for sports nuts called scorecasting. The book discusses the hidden influences and biases that exist in sports. Lots of interesting stuff in there. The last chapter describes the futility of the Chicago cubs over the past century. They attribute it largely to a lack of financial incentive to win. Most sports teams see their revenue (in the form of ticket sales, advertising, merchandise sale, etc.) change relative to the performance of the team, which makes a lot of sense. However a few teams have a relatively stable fanbase which seems to defy this. And the cubs have the most stable fanbase in MLB. No matter how well or poor the cubs did the year before, attendance and revenue held constant. So essentially a team in this position does not have the financial incentive to win that most teams do. And so they're quite content to just maintain the status quo. They provide a bunch of interesting stats and discussion that's too much to go into here but I couldn't help think of another team that seems to fit this profile.
  8. That's a good one. Scary thing is soon enough it may not be a joke!
  9. Nice fish. How do you like that chest pack? Does it have good storage space? I've been thinking of one to replace my wornout vest.
  10. My issue with this has nothing to do with any scientific proof. My problem is the inequality of the current regs. If you've got the money to spend on a decent boat and the equipment then you're allowed to keep more fish than guys who fish the tribs. Why should one group of anglers be allowed to keep more fish from the same population?
  11. Nice to hear. Is there a petition or something we can sign to support your cause?
  12. Thanks for posting this. I've always kind of wondered if this could happen. Of course those fish that were already mature when the gobies really took off fluorished. But future recruitment is a different story. Are we going to see a crash in smallie populations in areas like Erie and Simcoe? Fishing is so good now no one would believe it, but the same could be said prior to the crash of many fisheries, including great lakes salmon. Maybe at least this should be a nudge that we need to ensure we're protecting spawning fish to make sure they can guard the nests.
  13. The pic of you guys fishing around the ice is great. Looks like a tasty dinner too.

    Finally

Good to hear you're wining your battle. Nice fish and I'm sure you'll have fun with the new toy.
  15. Unfortunately you are correct. In some traditions the fish is released alive, so it's fairly safe to assume that some of these fish would have been released. And who knows how many have already have made it through and have been. It's really sad that some people just don't have enough respect for this country and our resources.
  16. very nice, didn't know that stripers had landlocked populations. It's always fun to target something different know and then. Nice fish.
  17. If the story is true as told in the article then he should absolutely have the right to defend himself and his property the way he did. And if that's the case it's a travesty he's in trouble. Maybe his charges should be dropped as this clearly was self defense but maybe there's more to the story. This is ONE side of the story. Of course him and his lawyer are going to make him look rational and decent and the neighbors insane lunatics. It wouldn't be the first time someone exaggerated, lied, or forgot some details to get themselves out of trouble. I don't think anyone other than those involved know all of the details. Maybe he's completely innocent? Or maybe he was the all along? Either way, no matter what preceded this, the guys who firebombed his house better be getting serious jail time. Nothing done in the past can justify this.
  18. It's unfortunate someone lost their life, but this is ridiculous...... http://www.therecord.com/news/world/article/482858--man-killed-by-armed-bird-at-cockfight
  19. Pack 27-13.
  20. It's great to see groups out there fighting to improve our fisheries and I understand many want a steelhead fishery but you need to realize there are some who do not want to see every trib in Ontario managed with steelhead and salmon as the primary, or only, concern. I realize that steelies have a wider appeal than other trout species, but that doesn't mean we should do everything possible to increase their numbers at the potential loss of other fish populations. There are many good steelhead tribs in southern Ontario, but wild resident fisheries like that which exist in the Credit are fewer. And I do find it really humorous that steelheaders are suggesting those who fly fish are elitists. Maybe some are, but if you want to know another way to meet elitist anglers just take a spinning reel to steelhead river in the fall. I know cause I've done this for 5 years.
  21. I have noticed this in a small trib that I fish for brookies in. It's not in the Credit watershed but same deal. Steelie run has grown on the river and now it's getting harder and harder to find nice brookies in this little trib. No problem find steelie smolts though. This is why I'd rather not see steelies reach the upper Credit. While they may not completely displace the resident fishery there it will add competition which will surely have some impact.
  22. Sorry guys but I'm still a little confused here, maybe I'm missing something but my interpretation is; they're reconstructing the norval dam to allow some migratories (browns) to pass but others (pacific salmon) will not be able to pass. How exactly is that possible? Or they're putting in a barrier above the dam that will keep rainbows out of the upper Credit, but browns and atlantis presumably will pass? I'm sure there are very good intentions for the project but I don't fully understand exactly what's being done.
  23. Well he listen so well the first time so I'm sure he'll obey this order.
  24. I have a stradic3000 that i've fished hard over the past 2 years. It's been submerged many times, dropped a couple of times and still works flawlessly. I just clean it up and oil it now and then. I agree with buying quality gear once as opposed to lower end stuff many times but I can't see how the C14 is really any better than a regular stradic. Ya there's a weight difference but can't imagine and extra once or 2 really makes a difference. If it does, time for some pushups. And it looks a little fancier. But personally I think it's purely a marketing thing to make us spend more money. Also I don't like the small handles on the C14 vs the regular stradic. That maybe be biased though as I fish in colder weather and when wearing gloves the larger handles are easier to grab. But that may not apply to you.
