  1. by eliminationmy way, it's a chum or some sort of hybrid that's displays mostly chum characteristics. 1-is definitely not a coho. tail wrist is too thin and it's spotted all over ( chum tails are also thin wristed) 2-not a chinook because the body spots are too fine, a chum characteristic (and reds) -mouth is dark but not as dark as the typical king.. -the body coloring bleeds far into the tail which makes this a chum tail. man. have to stay up another 4 hours to make my last connecting flight. so tired already.
  2. using a rod appropriate for your reel size and lure weight has as much to do with casting distance as a well designed reel. a well built rod will also improve casting distance.
  3. This is why the better sounder/gps combo units have DGPSr, not gpsr. Even if your handheld unit was at maximum resolution with lots of satellite locks, the best you're going to get is +/- 30ft (10ft with WAAS which you probably didn't have). Thats a 60foot circle around you. Standard DGPSr receivers are good down to about +/- 5 feet accuracy which reduces the kind of discrepency you saw. and then there are the surveying DGPSr's which are accurate to under an inch in error (1/2 -1/4" ? ). Then add in the error from your sounder and you've got a lot of possibilities for the 10' depth discrepency Oh yeah, get a garmin. It's the brand most use if you check the big geocaching sites. They've gone through more units than the average gps user and are usually the first to jump on new models.
  4. In that case, a 1 piece 17' surf rod would work for you.
  5. I remember those too, along with the famous ads of the rods bent to touch tip to butt. the magic of fiberglass and very little graphite. I don't know if the rods still bend like that. I haven't touched one in 20 years. It would burn my skin. haha. I also remember their lifetime unconditional warranty but somebody mentioned a few years of warranty on them, that's probably one reason they can sell at a lower price now.
  6. they probably meant a tough urethane or epoxy clearcoat. choose one from a real auto paint shop, not ctc and walmart.
  7. i don't mind seeing things like this. It's all in fun, kinda like going to sports events and seeing logos and team colors painted on the face or body. I'm all for freedom of expression on this one. If you're offended, don't look.
  8. Probably fuji alconite or hardloy with stainless frames. There's absolutely no chance fuji titanium's would be used on a $40 (full price) rod. Just one fuji titanium spinning guide size 30 (typical first large guide) alone is $40. Still, any rod that uses fuji alconite or hardloy's is a good deal for $20.
  9. whippy because theres a lot of fiberglass in them. the glass is also what makes them tough like big trolling rods, and so heavy. They're not the most sensitive sticks due to the weight and materials but they're perfect for the casual fisherman or anybody who doens't want to spend a lot on a rod that'll last a while.
  10. 12 and 16 strand carrier? but for what pound test and is that hollow core or solid? Most lines are 4-8 strand until you get into seriously high tests where you get up to 16 strand. I saw a few boutique lines last winter that were 12 and 16 strand but they were hollow and started at #50. It was around $80USD for 100yards and I was tempted to try it only because that's the lightest hollow i've seen.
  11. I can't list 3 specific setups either because the list of rods and reels i own is always changing. i think i get bored easily and like to play with new rods and reels. Part of the fun for me is catching fish on a few new rods or reels every season. I'm like women and their shoes. I can generalize and put 3 together. 1- one long casting rod in the 8-8'6 range for distance and fish control, fast, M/MH, x-#17, with a 100/200 size casting reel, round reel. 2- a shorter casting rod for accuracy, 6'6 and 7' fast, H, x-#20, with a small, low profile casting reel or a 50/51 size round reel. 3- and a 7' #12 or #14 spinning rod, 2500 size reel that would probably not get used much but it's nice to have a spinning rod around.
  12. tree roots, you're probably okay. SS is a lot tougher than steel in any situation. Your top end speed is also a little better because the blades are thinner for the same strength, and there's much less prop flex in SS designs. They are definitely heavier though so there will be differences in how the boat runs through the rpm range, especially with smaller engines. It's up to you whether or not it's worth it. The only situation i probably wouldn't be getting one is if i'm smashing rocks all year, even then SS is more durable, but it's not something you want to replace or repair every season. BBC forums has a forsale section just for props. bass boat central.
  13. couriers = brokerage fees at the border = Bull All you can do is wait and see. sometimes you'll get duties by the post office, sometimes not. For the most part, you will get it at your door for nothing extra if delivered by USPS. I've been burned before but it was mostly larger boxes like computers where they actually opened it up, placed their own value on it, and taxed (duties) me on their assessed value.
  14. cool idea for father's day. Did you add anything or is it one of the rod builds with preselected components? There are some good prices on the website. He can't be making very much on each rod.
  15. I use 2 part epoxy also. the tip might not take too much of a pulling load, but it gets a lot of twisting which is where typical home hotmelt fails because they're not very sticky. hot melt from archery shops or Gudebrod's hotmelt ferrule cement is gummy and sticky and much better if you you insist on using a hot melt glue.
  16. When I run divers I do it off the transom, always in a straight line. downriggers with extensions off each side, 2 more in the aft corners. Everything runs straight out and there have never been tangles. Beam is 12' so with the booms extended, the spread on my baits is probably around 20'
  17. Great pictures all done FPS game style. makes it feel like it's you.
  18. A sunny day with 10 fish on 2 lines is a pretty good day by any standard. I hope the iced salmon in the picture isn't where your "sockeye" came from. LOL. there were some pretty marked up tigers in there. Did you try any of the yellow eyes in the picture? They are excellent eating fish, and with any luck, you'll get those the next time you're over there fishing for halibut. Remember to ask how fast the boat is when you ask for the charter's halibut rates.
  19. Or even better, use the buoy and ring trick to bring up an anchor.
  20. ...and say hello to a boost to your retirement benefits.
  21. My weekend started 2 days ago on thursday...3 more days to go before work on tuesday. I've been working on a few fishing rods. There were plans to go fishing with a friend but rain in the forecast with a storm later today held us back and forced us to drink at a local bar.
  22. lots of peanut butter and banana sandwiches, banana bread, banana oatmeal muffins, pureed banana, banana splits for dessert, all washed down with peanut butter banana milkshake.
  23. The D's are clearing out in stores around here too. They were just over $100 cdn about a month ago, not far from the gander price you saw. I also get the feeling shimano is about update the calcutta reels right from the low end B's up to the digital DC's at the top. I saw huge discounts on them at a local stores and online (BPS for example).
  24. Potts became a multiplatinum, with album sales in the millions and probably rolls on a carpet of money after his appearance on the show. Yesterday, there was an article on Forbes.com about Susan Boyle likely being able to do the same in the very near future if she plays her cards right.
  25. I stopped my automatic biweekly contributions in the middle of last year because I didn't think the markets wouldn't do anything but go down. When the RSP deadline came last month, I plunked down the whole wad to max out. I'm glad i did that way because that particular portfolio did nothing but drop after every contribution until recently. It felt like I was trying to fill a bath tub with the stopper pulled out.
