  1. I bought an inflatable so I’ll wear it all the time. Otherwise it comes of and hangs on the seat. Not a great place for it if I’m not a strong swimmer.
  2. If I have to use that style, I like a fisherman style with a mesh top and neoprene neck band. They sometimes have pockets on the front too.
  3. Aside from finding parts for this, most small outboards this old suffer from poor compression and worn internals. While some may run, they won’t idle well or may be hard to start. A tuneup won’t fix this. Brittle, cracked and corroded wiring can be an issue too as seen in the 70’s mercs. I’d try to look for something from the 90’s up or a 4 stroke if you can find room in your budget. Whatever you buy, see it running. Do a compression test. Both pistons should be within a few psi of each other. Check the lower unit oil (let a bit out on a rag). If water comes out or the oil is brown, white or chocolate milk coloured, the lower seals need replacing. And plan on changing the impeller and lower unit oil. that’s a must but easy to do.
  4. I think that’s almost a definite. Even the popular motors of the era have lots of obsolete parts now.
  5. Those are great genny’s. I remember camping at bonnechere PP a few years ago. It was really hot and some guy was powering his travel trailer with a big, noisy champion rattler, assuming to cool it down with AC. I was beat from being on the go in the heat all day and wanted to sleep as soon as it was dark. I didn’t think genny’s were allowed and was ready to go over with a pair of side cutters and cut off both the recoil cord AND the spark plug wire. But he shut it down at 11pm sharp, presumably for the excessive noise rule. I doubt anyone will mind your Honda. Cool thing about some of the small Honda’s is they can be pigtailed together for more amperage but the same quiet operation and flexible stowage. Love the concept.
  6. I think it’s a great product but just saying some plastics or rubber compounds may react.
  7. Guys keep the tubes for old guitar tube amplifiers maybe?
  8. Did you have to cross the room to change channels or did you have the Kleenex box sized remote on a cord? the one with about 15 buttons in a row with a 3 way rocker making it a 45(ish) switch remote
  9. Nice. Did you book online or by phone? I didn’t think you were allowed to run genny’s at the PP’s?
  10. Yup I was looking for a pedal and ended up picking up a full setup. Figuring it was a dead pedal on my first, it actually ended up being something in the drive. Left me with 2 good pedals. Opposite the usual. That’s why I said try to rule one out
  11. Do you have a spare foot pedal or know someone who has the same pedal to rule out whether it’s in the pedal or main unit.
  12. X3 The brushes and armature look fine to me. Lots of life left in the brushes I’d say.
  13. That sucks. My Samsung is 7-8 years old, touch wood still going great. I hope it lasts for quite a while yet. I think you can get a bed one in any bunch. I had a Sony go bad in only 5-6 years once. It wasn’t as good as the Hitachi it replaced. hope you do better with the next one
  14. This is why I don’t live & work up there as much as I’d like nothing more. Not enough year round work for me. and I suspect they hang on as long as possible until they have no choice but to leave for better prospects.
  15. Highway upgrades do make it much safer though. Gasoline alley used to be a nightmare for traffic hazards. Wondering if that’s changed now with a lot of businesses gone. I heard MTO bought up many(??) I don’t go that way often and never on a weekend. The thought of pulling out with a big trailer or motor home in the weekend rush...I’d never stop. And there’s always the “oops, we missed it, oh well, we’ll hit it on the way home” thing with these places which rarely happens on the way back. Seems like everyone is in an all fire hurry to get to the destination now.
  16. That’s too bad, it looked like they did a steady business. Will they have to relocate, or will there be a service road for them? We bought a big heavy blanket there late last fall to keep the wife warm in the boat. I need another because I stole it from her when we got home. That blanket saved my sanity while on the water. Happy wife, happy life. really good fudge there too.
  17. Iirc, Do you want to be a little bit careful going through the Narrows by the train bridge? If I remember there’s some rocks there. But beyond that, do a slow trail troll There’s a nice deep whirl pool at the bottom of the rapids.
  18. Stop at the French river trading post right before your turn off to Hartley Bay Road for a waterproof map. (Not sure if the lodge sells them) Ask the guys at the lodge to put x marks on good areas. They’ll tell you hazards to avoid like tinnermans rock, rapids etc. I’ve only been a few times but had decent luck with crank baits, spinner baits and both white and pumpkinseed Gary Yamamoto grubs. There’s some big Muskie right around the lodge area. Saw a monster chasing a pike follow. Re; rocks; you sound like a novice boater. Just be careful and you’ll do ok. Ask your wife to keep watch up front. Go slow in areas you aren’t sure of. Go wide around points as points usually indicate shallows right off of them, sometimes far reaching. Watch wave patterns/splashes or surface water. Changes in water patterns can indicate shallows/rocks. IIRC, their boats are tillers without depthfinders. Watch kijiji or marketplace for used portables. I have one for rental boats and my canoe, it’s basic but tells you what water your in and can help you find shoals you didn’t know were there. (The good ones with fish on them)
  19. Wd40 killed the plastic grips on my wiss snips. Made them swell and rubbery. Wouldn’t stay put on the handles. I used to spray my hand tools when they got wet to keep them from rusting.
  20. I didn’t want a tap card but having to hold the keypad at a dive trough changed that for me in a hurry. I’d like to see us get back all the businesses lost, swallowed up to the huge corporations that only got bigger. open the goddamn patios and stores already!!! let me get a haircut! It’s to my nose. Hasn’t been this long since 1987
