Lake Erie Port Maitland Walleye July 6th

Nice eyes! -
I'm pretty new to the board and I have really enjoyed the board. I've had threads that have had a fair number of replys, enough to get the answer I'm looking for at least, and thats enough. I've also had threads that haven't generated any replies at all (search lake nilgaut), was I upset about this? no. Disappointed? maybe.... but I realize I was asking for information on a pretty remote lake, and I suppose no one had fished there before, no big deal, it made it more of an adventure. I think the problem is that you failed to realize that asking info about specific fishing spots (ie georgian vs simcoe) really narrows down the number of people who can respond and give you advice. Granted those are 2 main water bodies, but not everyone has fished both of them, at this time of year, targeting a specific species. Personally I've only ever fished georgian bay, in the honey harbour area that you mentioned, but my experience there is very limited, and since I've never fished Simcoe, my input would be irrelevant. Now when people post a topic about their first car, where they work, or gas prices, nearly everyone can relate and provide input to that thread. Now even though they might be non-fishing topics, its the content that makes the difference. I'm sure if you posted a topic about every ones first fish, largest fish, pretties fish, favorite lure, you would get 4+ pages of responses. Oh another way to get a lot of responses is through a rant/vent. I'm sure you'll be please with the number of responses you get to this thread!

I agree the regs can be a big vague. Especially when it comes to the boundaries of sanctuary/no fish zones. If you are not familiar with the area then you are not likely to know exactly where they area talking about. I don't think anyone here really gets upset about people asking regs questions. I think generally people on this site believe anglers should be self-sufficient. Its just like people asking for a honey hole, I think we'd all rather see you go out and do the work to find that special spot. As for RichyB, no one is asking you to drive 15 minutes just to pick up a copy of the regulations, but maybe the next time you are buying bait, at Canadian Tire, or your local tackle shop you'll pick one up. The regs has a lot of useful information and specific details that may accidentally be left out in a post.

Thanks guys, I was thinking it was a pike, but I just wanted to make sure.... The pattern just looked a lot more organized than most pike I've seen.

Hey guys.... I was taking a look at some friends photos and came across this picture... My initial thought was that it was a pike due to the dark greenish colour, then I started to look at the markings and they look pretty banded, especially at the tail, and I started to wonder if it might be a young tiger musky, altough it does seem like a few spots were developing. I'm not sure how the colouring of young pike develops, but the banding on this fish almost make it look like a young Tiger musky. As I've never fished for musky the only way I know how to identify them is by their markings/colour/size. Two questions are there any other ways to distinguish a pike from a musky ie. fin location/shape or anything else, and second which species is this?

I failed my first G test as well. The evaluator said I had a "rolling stop" at a stop sign. He asked me just after I made the turn if I though it was a complete stop, and I said "Ya I'm pretty sure it was" I guess he didn't like that response so he failed me. Took the test again and passed with flying colours. Just get out there and take it again as soon as you can. I wouldn't go through the whole complaint, just seems like too big of a hassle, just swallow your pride and take it again!

Great fish and great pictures!

Never fished Sand Lake, but I do fish a lake just south of it called Troy Lake that has some huge bass (<-- avatar) and lots of 3-4lb pike! I don't think it has public access though. Sand is on the Rideau Canal system though, and that waterway is world renowned partly for its fishing. I paddled from Kingston to Ottawa a few years ago and couldn't believe the number of pike we saw/caught. Also saw a few dead pike with nice sized walleye hanging out of their mouths, I guess they bit off more than they could chew. Good luck on Sand, let us know how it turns out, I may venture up there sometime if you report good things!

I spent 4 years in Guelph at the U. I lived directly across from the river on Raymond St. Never fished it myself, its pretty grungy looking, but did see a few ppl there in my time. If I were you I would head out to Guelph Lake, not a very impressive lake but I've heard there are some decent bass/pike in there. Also if you have a vehicle, the forks of the Credit isn't too far away, and there was a post on here not too long ago about it having a decent trout fishery, its also a pretty nice place to go for a little hike.

Im also very impressed by the community. Kudos to Rick and HH for reaching out to a fellow member in need!

Incredibly fast! Thanks!

I wish I could afford it! Looks great!

I got one too, no subscription... I was really confused at first.

The only tube I've used is the white YUM product. Never caught anything on them! I wouldn't buy white if I were you. Stick towards something that looks like a crawfish. Smoke/watermelon/green type thing is what I think would work.

I've never caught one either. We used to see some pretty big ones sunning in the shallows around Beausoleil Isl. on Georgian Bay. I've heard they are really stinky though, did you notice if they had a strong smell?

Let's hope the technology gets expanded on, and becomes more available to consumers world wide.

Right now I am unemployed.... Just finished my second stint at University. Most recently I received my B.Ed from the University of Windsor, and before that got a B.Sc with Honour in Human Kinetics from the U of Guelph. I'm hoping to catch on with a school board for the fall. I'd like to stay in the Kingston area, but really am open to going anywhere in the country. If there are any board trustees or people on the hiring committees please keep me in mind. I think teaching is the ideal job for me, long hard hours during the school year, but enough time off in the summer to go out fishing lots.

Washroom accomodation for female passengers on your boat?

those porta-potties are a good idea. I'm lucky my girlfriend will hang over the gunwale or transom if it needs to be done. -
The thing that you aren't considering, is that they aren't completing a full electrolysis of water.... The products are not H2, O2 and Heat as you state.... The product is HHO. The O-H Bonds ARE NOT being broken, therefore loss of energy (heat) is not as significant of a factor. Its actually more of a displacement reaction. You refer to your data on Post #11, and Im not disputing the facts there-in. The problem is that data is from 2004, prior to this new HHO technology. Now with that said I still DON"T think these little add on components will do anything for your vehicle of gas mileage. I think it is a SCAM like many other. The video that was posted shows a car that has been modified to run on H2O and gas, but it doesn't say how it was modified. I doubt very much that it was anything like what these websites are trying to sell you. I do think the technology is on its way, but don't waste your money on purchasing, or installing these cells.

congrats, I'm still waiting for my first, but I've never really targeted them so that may be why.

What kind of dog is that??? Mastiff? Newfie?

Ugly Sticks are virtually indestructible, but as pointed out you do loose a bit of feel. I purchased an ugly stick (6'6 med. action) without really checking it out enough. After a couple hours on the water I started to realize the handle was way to thick for my liking and I found my hands were getting really sore from it. A friend of mine has the ultralight and when compared the 2 rods have the same handle size, so keep your head up for that if its of any concern.
-
I agree I think these little "cells" are a waste of money. I don't think modifying your current ride with these will gain much value. I could however see new concept cars, or HHO hybrids showing up in the next couple years. if the technology is legit.
-
Now, I'm not saying your wrong, because I really don't have a great deal of knowledge of this process. I think the complete electrolysis of water is what made the old hydrogen fuel cells so inefficient and dangerous. The new technology is only a partial electrolysis, where the water molecule is being re-arranged to HHO as opposed to 2 Hyrdogen ions and one Oxygen. perhaps since the bonds aren't actually being broken, considerably less free energy is required... again just a thought, would love to hear from a chemist or physicist if we have any around.

I'm always out searching for a new personal best, but the best times are when I have my good buddies in the boat recently. I got my girlfriend into the sport a couple of years ago, and she loves going out to catch the giants (she always gets the biggest one of the trip). I love seeing the smile and excitement on her face when she finally lands those trophy fish.
