You don't need to go too far from Kingston harbor (check in) to get some big bass, I'm from Kingston and have caught many lunker's right in the harbor, and just around it. Last year (or maybe 2 years ago) I saw Dave Mercer using this exact strategy, he was fishing the overpass just before you get to fort henry- only about 2 mins from the harbor by boat (if that).

I'm sure burning it lets off some chemicals that are hazardous, but after recycling that sounds like the next best thing. Certainly better than leaving the line shore-side and I like the idea of getting rid of it completely rather than throwing it in some landfill even if its balled up, cut up or wrapped in duct tape.

congrats, its a few years down the road but I can't wait to get my own! -
It truly is an awful thing to do. I can't believe how much line is around the shores of pretty much any water body, its a disgrace.

If your talking about the Abu Garcia Cardinal 502 that was on sale at Canadian Tire you can change the handle around to the other side. Just unscrew the little cap opposite the handle and swap their places. It's extremely easy!

Just curious how everyone disposes of their used line? I know there are some line recycling programs out there, but I don't know where to take/send my old line. Usually, I just cut it up into a bunch of small pieces and wrap it in duct tape then pitch it. However I know this is a pretty bad method and would like to be a bit more environmentally friendly. Plus maybe this will get some others getting rid of their line properly, instead of seeing it laying all over the shore!

I'm 26, but most of the people here are willing to be chatty with anyone, no matter what their age.

Made it to CT last night at 8:50, (store closed at 9 and the sale ended yesterday) and snatch up the last one on the shelf. It wasn't marked as on sale so I had to get them to look through the flier when I paid but it all worked out. I'm pretty excited to get it spooled and get casting, thanks again for the info.

Thanks for the tip, I've got about $70 of CT money saved and I've been waiting to find something to spend it on!

I'd also include a spinner bait or two and some sort of body bait, maybe an xrap or Big O

I was out for about an hour last weekend in Windsor. Only shore casting though, didn't have any luck, nor did anyone else I spoke to along the shore line. I saw a handful of boats out but couldn't see if they were landing anything. I plan on going shore casting again tonight if the weather holds up, and I'll let you know. As for a boat launch I have no idea, I don't have a boat and haven't been in the area for very long.

I'm pretty sure its illegal to raise game species in an aquarium. I have however seen some videos on youtube and such of largies being raised. I also think having an aquarium with some nice shiny perch and sunfish would be pretty cool too.

I have to side with Forrest and Ramble On for this one. I commend you guys for sticking up for what you believe in and showing some real concern over the state of our environment. Ramble On I further appreciate the fact that you pointed out how climate change does not only refer to an increased global temperature. The effects will vary from one location to another, this is why scientists, and yes even popular media has shifted away from using the term "Global Warming". Lundboy, I have not read into the links that you have posted, and again I commend you for speaking your mind, but I have to entirely disagree that this was a compliance test. Although the organization that fist put forward the Earth Hour idea, may have various agendas, I believe their intentions in this manner were to heighten environmental awareness, nothing more! You may criticize or mock me for not reading into the foundations other objectives, but simply stated... I enjoy outdoors activities that rely upon a healthy environment and, I will support any incentives, programs, or activities that promote environmental awareness. Once again I do not believe Earth Hour was a compliance test, rather it was method to encourage environmental awareness whether or not people participated. This forum supports my point completely, take yourself, or many others who have responded to this thread, whether you participated or not it still got you talking about issues that are confronting our natural world. Furthermore linking the founder of the WWF to authors of Brave New World and War of the Worlds was a moot point. Although the authors may have believed, or even supported the societies portrayed in these novels they are, when it comes down to it fictional works. Now you may argue that the resources you have posted indicate a similar fate is imminent, but if you truly believe this, then you my friend demonstrate a complete lack of faith in society, human kind and the basic principles of free will. Lastly, I have to ask why you are still living on the grid if you feel so strongly. Not as a means to lessen your impact on the environment but undoubtedly the taxes you pay go towards creating this globalists society which you oppose so greatly. I do not question your intelligence, you have clearly demonstrated you are highly educated whether it is self educated or through the education system, and you have responded to criticism in a tasteful manner (with the exception of the last couple of posts). I just feel that this anti-globalists stance (which I am neither opposing nor supporting as I have not researched both sides) has blinded your critical judgment. Earth hour was simply a ploy to encourage environmental awareness, nothing more! There were not alternate motives, there was no compliance test, we are not being fitted for microchips! The environment is a fragile system, we have abused it for way too long. It is today, not tomorrow when we need to develop strategies to reverse the impact of humans, or at least lessen the stress that our consumerist society has caused to our precious planet.

I like to make my own batter as well... I found fish crisp was way too salty for my liking, the original anyways, I had another flavour that wasn't too bad but I don't remember which it was. I'm also curious to know how Cronzy's batter is, but I can't justify buying batter when it tastes just as good, and is a lot cheaper to make it yourself!

Welcome aboard, I'm fairly new as well!

Thanks for starting this thread! I appreciate all the info. I've heard lots about polarized glasses and never really thought much about it. However after hearing some of the reviews I think I'm going to go get a pair of the cheap rapala's to keep in my tackle box. My question to all of you, is how do polarized glasses compare to standard sun glasses (for example I have Oakley's) in terms of protecting your eyes from UV damage. I know that you get what you paid for, but does the polarization filter interfere with the UV filters? Or are they combined even on the lower end products? -fwf

I don't know if your up for it or not, but Im going to be doing some camping at Fosters Fishing the 2nd weekend in may. They have really great services, excellent sites/boat launch/and fish cleaning area. They have trailers you can rent, but I'm sure how great they would be for a family. Also theres a place called Pickerel Park (I think) around there that I believe has cabins you can rent. I'm not sure what their services are like though, I've never stayed there. heres the link http://www.pickerelpark.com/

Not a bad picture to start with! Nice Bucket!

I took my girlfriend out fishing for the first time about 2 years ago and she's been hooked ever since.... Luckily she bates her own hook, handles the fish and cleans them. This was her first cast and her very first fish... This was the very next cast, her second fish... Steep learning curve I guess. Then my buddy and I brought the girls on a Walleye fishing trip... guess who caught the biggest eye of the weekend... figures

I just thought of one more show that I liked but it totally contradicts this , but I can't remember the name of it. The host looks like Conan O'Brien and he has some great destinations although a little far for me, but the photography was incredible. I love the Yukon pike episode. Somebody post the name of this show for me. Where did it go? I think your referring to Hooked up with Mark Kruppa. I liked that show too but it seems to have been taken off the air. The guy is kinda flaky sometimes but he does get to some great locations. I was actually watching a movie (human trafficking) and he has a pretty lead role in it. I looked up his bio and the guy has been fishing forever (as with most of them) but he is also a professional photographer, can speak 4 languages and has been in quite a few movies. I also agree about your view on Pete Bowman and The guys from FishTV, I think they make great hosts. I have to say the worst of them out there has got to be Italo, seems like every other episode is on Bay of Quinte (not that its bad fishing, just gets boring seeing the same thing all the time). He treats all his guests like imbeciles and he seems almost scared of the fish at times.

Nope not me!
