  1. Hey Guys, I went to Ladner in search of some waterfowl to take photos of yesterday and came upon a large flock of Snow Geese. Last time I had some fun photographing them so I couldn't pass up another opportunity. The only problem with photographing them this time, was that they were flying in an area that had a few houses and telephone poles in the background. Personally, when it comes to photos, I think the background is just as important as the subject or foreground so these objects needed to be edited out. Man-made items weren't the only thing that needed to be removed from some photos. When photographing birds in large flocks your bound to get the odd wing, leg, or head poking into the frame. So just like the man-made stuff, these also need to go. Here are the original photos followed by the edited version just so you can see why type of editing goes into some of these photos... Original Edited Original Edited Original Edited Original Edited Now just some other shots from the morning....enjoy blog can be found here http://brandonbroderick.blogspot.com/
  2. Hey kickingfrog I honestly had never heard of the site either but I'm looking forward to checking out some of these contests in the future
  3. I was driving home from work yesterday over the Lions Gate Bridge here in Vancouver and noticed some Kite Surfers enjoying the nasty weather. So as soon as I got home I grabbed my camera and hit the beach.... Now 3 more shots I took while I was down there
  4. My vote would be for the Rebel. I don't have any personal experience with the point and shoot models so I'll let others give their opinions on them.
  5. Just some more photos from today...enjoy blog can be found here http://brandonbroderick.blogspot.com/
  6. I had this Red-tailed Hawk land in a tree near me today after I had finished taking photos of the Coot's and it had a less than graceful take-off. Here you can see it's getting ready to fly things still looking good for the Hawk now for whatever reason it decided to grab onto the small branch in front of it....check the horrified look in the Hawk's eyes as it sees the branch is breaking The branch falls and the Hawk does a bit too...but it has wings so it just continued on with it's day blog can be found here http://brandonbroderick.blogspot.com/
  7. The American Coot is by far one of the least photogenic birds I've ever come across. So today I decided to take some time and try to make them not look so bad. I had some good lighting today and mainly focused on trying to catch them as they dove under water. It was also pretty funny to watch the Wigeons wait for the Coot's to get back on the surface with food. The Wigeons seem to be quite lazy and just want to steal from the Coot's....enjoy this Coot series blog can be found here http://brandonbroderick.blogspot.com/
  8. Came across a TON of snow geese here today....here are a few of the pics Now for the GBH I saw it right at the shore and wanted a shot of it with a fish. So I waited, and waited, and waited and finally it took a plunge... and it failed....and looked pretty disgruntled after the fail and now just 2 standard GBH shots The rest of the story can be found here http://www.brandonbroderick.blogspot.com/
  9. Hey Dave, I did notice quite a few birds that for some reason didn't have their full adult plumage yet. Not sure if it's just being on the west coast that has caused it, if it's normal, or if it's some environmental factor. And I guess I should have worded the "not flying much" part yet. By that I mean, most of the birds in the area are residents. The winter brings the migratory birds in and those are the ones that I like to target for flight shots.
  10. Got out sunday and today in search of some waterfowl shots. It's still early in the season so for the next few outings are just practicing for the main event, the winter. Just making sure all my gear is working right, and i figure out any little tricks for getting the right shots when they're presented to me in the winter. The ducks still aren't flying much so this weekend was more or less just taking pictures of some behavioural type stuff..... more details can be found here http://brandonbroderick.blogspot.com/ I'll start things off with a shot of some cattails A few bath time photos And the rest..

  14. great photos Dan. Some nice action shots there. I know it's tough to get your camera on the action when there's so much going on and you nailed it.

    Slow Snake

Hey Mike.....they fly away on me quite often too but the key is to anticipate where it's going to head and sit somewhere along that route.
