  1. beauty reflection
  2. you can never go wrong with a photo of a wings fan......and I've heard great things about the D90. looking forward to some more photos from you
  3. hoooly crap what an eye you have.....to be able to look at a chain and think of a photo opportunity is one thing, but to actually produce a decent photo of a chain is another, and man you nailed it.....well done
  4. That option is mainly there to help save memory if needed. More megapixels take up more memory. You wouldn't be able to notice the difference just looking at the photos on your computer screen but if you print them you will lose quality....but only really with stuff above 8x10. Hope this helps
  5. I don't know what it was today but the ducks just weren't flying. And I didn't drive an hour to photograph sitting ducks. So I needed something to make the photos more interesting than just a duck bobbing in the water. I started to notice the Drake Mallards doing this thing where they dip their head under water, blow air out of their bill(which caused water to fly), then arch their back up. A few would do it at the same time. I'm assuming that it has something to do with mating because it is that time of year and it was only the males doing it. I decided to try and photograph that thing they were doing but it was pretty tough to predict which duck was going to do it.....I did manage a few photos of it though..... With them throwing water around with that motion they were doing, I decided to keep looking for photos that would show water movement...here are some of those I didn't limit myself to that theme though....I shot these few as well Female Wood Duck Drake Wood Duck Snow Geese
  6. very cool Pam. I've always wanted to check that place out
  7. The owner of the company I work for is trying to push "going green" and is designing a brochure. He has asked me to take basically a photo of some trees for him so last night after work I went out looking for that photo. I got a couple to show him but I also snapped a few other photos for myself...... the same scene as above but from a different angle and something about this just looked cool to me....maybe a leaf that looks like it is from Fall stuck in a tree in the Spring...who knows....but I took a photo of it anyways And this morning I went after waterfowl again.... Not the greatest photo but best bufflehead shot I got this morning Portrait of a Canada Goose....if you look closely you can see my reflection in it's eye Female Scaup I have no idea what this bird is....suggestions are welcome Coot fight Pintail with a band Another Pintail Rufous Hummingbird...again, not a great photo, quality wise, but I liked the pose it was giving. Really shows off it's tail Male Scaup This Wood Duck seems confused....there is no way it can fit in there And this was just hilarious....this lady was doing some strange dance. That in itself was funny but check the goose in the background.....it does not look impressed with her moves
  8. conveniently my roommate who I hiked with is also a photographer
  9. I didn't take any of the rockface itself. It was pretty cloudy when we started the hike and then pretty much dark when we finished so hopefully next time I will. And I've only been to the tourist lookout at shannon falls. There is a hike to get to the upper falls which I will be doing in the summer. And those photos were taken at ISO 200, f22, and a 1-3 second shutter speed
  10. I checked out that camera and I'm not too sure if you can. You need to be able to have control of the aperture and shutter speed for shots like that. If that camera does have some manual options then it shouldn't be a problem. And a tripod is also a must
  11. On Sunday my roommate and I hiked up "The Chief" in Squamish. If you've never been to Squamish, The Chief is this gigantic rockface on the east side of the town. There are rock climbing routes up the face of it however we hiked a trail up the backside. The First 2 photos are 2 different shots of the same section of a stream on the way up. And this last one is the view from the top looking North/NorthWest. Squamish is the town you can see on the left of the photo. And the tall peak that heads into the clouds on the right side of the photo is Mt. Garibaldi. enjoy tknohpy was asking what sort of settings I use for the water photos and I thought I'd add this photo of me taking the photos to give an idea of what sorta balancing act/tripod placement goes into that kind of photo
  12. cool pics. i like the second one the best.
  13. I've heard only good things about the D90....If you decide to go with it, I'm sure you'll enjoy it
  14. amazing series of photos.....your improving more and more each time you post. keep it up man, looking forward to some more

    More Ducks

I went looking for some more waterfowl flight shots once again this morning. The lighting was hit or miss but when it was there it was awesome and made the early morning worth it....enjoy Bufflehead Diving

    Waterfowl

I wasn't planning on taking pictures today because the weatherman was calling for 60% chance of rain/snow. But when I woke up it was sunny so once again I went after waterfowl.....The lighting got real bad towards the end as you'll notice in the goose and eagle pictures....enjoy
  18. great shots....love the lighting on the deer
  19. very nice. the first one is my fave with the rays of sunlight coming through the clouds
  20. just headed to a nearby park after work......2 pics.......one portrait, one landscape......enjoy
  21. Instead of getting up super early to shoot today I decided to sleep in and hopefully catch some nice afternoon light........But it was hit and miss. Clouds started to move in and it wasn't the greatest. Everytime I've been out taking pictures of waterfowl I always see them do this thing where they sort of push themselves out of the water and fluff their wings then rest back in the water again......I'm not sure if theyre just stretching or what but I've wanted pictures of that behaviour for a while. It's not as easy as it seems though.......when there's 20 ducks in front of you, it's hard to predict which one will do it still try and keep the other ducks out of the frame. So today I worked on just watching the ducks and learning what sort of stuff they did before they did their little stretch dance. The little bit of study time paid off and you'll see that in a few of the pics below.......enjoy Female Pintail walking on water....... Drake Wigeon Drake Mallard Drake Mallard/Pintail hybrid Same mallard/pintail hybrid doing some cleaning Mallard I'm not 100% sure what kind of birds these are.... Female Northern Harrier......Instead of trying to get too close for a profile type pic I stayed back and kept more in the scene.......such as the mountainous backdrop
  22. lol ya from what i've found theyre one of the hardest species of waterfowl to catch on camera.........and theyre so silent too....
  23. 10-17mm Tokina Fisheye Lens will give you that last effect.......handy to have in certain situations but it doesn't get much use
  24. There was still plenty of light today after work so I drove to a nearby park/beach in West Vancouver. I had no plans on what I wanted to shoot but I figured once I was there I would get some ideas......I saw some kids in the skatepark and one was more than happy to help out with some shots....I couldn't decide between black and white or colour for them so i'm posting both......enjoy
  25. It's a possibility.......theres a few drake mallard/pintail cross' in the area too
