  1. Here's another time lapse. This time, of the sunset last night.
  2. yeah Deano where you been hiding?
  3. I bought an HD video camera a few months back and it comes with a Time Lapse feature. So I decided to see what it was all about. I set it to take one shot every 5 seconds. I started it last night out on my balcony before I went to bed so I could get the sunrise and I let it run all day today. And what you're seeing in the video is the detroit river looking west. Also, choose the 720p option for best quality. Enjoy--->
  4. Don't have the new camera yet.....that was a 15 minute exposure at 800 ISO
  5. This past week I was up in the Kirkland Lake area doing a bit of ice fishing and visiting some family friends and I came across something that I had never seen before. Bats....everywhere....and in the daytime. The warm weather has caused them to come out of hibernation early and apparently they're all confused. They did seem to be feeding a bit though which was nice to see. I know other times this has happened and the bats have no food but there were bugs out and they were definitely eating them. They also discovered that snow is a good source of water, as you'll see from the photos...... this one decided to have a nap next to my camera bag I also took a sunset photo..... and a star trail photo.....

    Deer

I'm finally settled back in Windsor and with the abundance of deer around here, I decided to try and photograph some..... enjoy This pic is rated 18+
  7. If you read my last post titled "Yellowstone National Park" you'll know I was in the process of moving from Vancouver to Windsor. This move included a solo drive from Windsor to Vancouver to pick up my stuff, then back to Windsor. The drive home was a lot quicker than the drive out there...2.5 days..I just really wanted to get it over and done with so I didn't stop all that much. It's a very cool drive, just boring alone. I stopped a total of 2 times for photos and they were both in southern Wyoming. The first 3 shots below are from the one stop, and the last shot is from the second location....enjoy
  8. If you're already spending the money on the cameras and lenses themselves, why not invest in a decent bag to protect them? I've got 3 different camera bags I use. One is a sling bag that I use for concerts and I can get 2 bodies and 2 lenses in it. One is a small backpack that I can get 1 body and a couple lenses in it. And my main bag is a bigger backpack that holds 2 bodies, 4 lenses, flash, filters, chargers, and it also has clips for my tripod....pretty well everything I need for whatever kind of photo I find myself taking. I'm sure if you were really set on rigging some sort of homemade camera bag you could do it....But camera bags are designed to hold and protect camera equipment....I could go on and list examples of the many ways homemade camera bags could potentially fail but I'll leave that to your imagination. To sum it up, invest in something to protect your investment.
  9. Thanks for the comments guys. After such a successful trip to Yellowstone the first time, I just might be stopping in again on my way home so I may have some more photos to post in the next week or 2.
  10. I'm going to begin this post by saying that Yellowstone National Park is one of the most amazing places I've ever been and if you ever get a chance to go, please do. Now I guess I should explain the circumstances that lead me to Yellowstone... On January 24th, I got a call from my Grandpa. My father had passed away. I flew back home to Windsor, Ontario on monday the 25th and began planning the funeral and all that other stuff associated with a death...not fun. Being that I'm the executor of my fathers estate, I've had a lot of responsibilities thrown my way. In order to deal with all this stuff properly, I have to be in Windsor. I now had to figure out a way to move home, and already being home made that kind of tricky. Flying back to Vancouver would be expensive and I would have to either rent a U-Haul truck or ship my stuff home, which is also very expensive. It turned out the cheapest way for me to get back to Vancouver and get my stuff home was to drive. My stepdad was generous enough to let me use his truck and that was it...now time to plan my route. It would have been nice to check out all the provinces since I have never made that drive before but I decided to drive through the U.S.A. instead. It's a more direct route and the gas is cheaper. As I was mapping out my journey, I noticed my route would take me fairly close to Yellowstone National Park. If the Discovery Channel has taught me anything, it's that Yellowstone is a place you just can't pass up. So that's how I ended up in Yellowstone. Ready to hear what it was like??? Ready or not, here it goes... If the Discovery Channel has taught me anything about Yellowstone, I was in for a day of watching Bison grazing in roadside meadows, Bighorn Sheep head-butting on rocky slopes, and packs of wolves hunting down weak Elk. Now I may not have seen the above mentioned animals doing what the DC depicts them doing, but I did see all of those species, and then some. In the winter there's only one road open to wheeled vehicles. It's the road at the north end of the park that goes from Mammoth to Cooke City. There's no loop so you basically drive to Cooke City and back. That drive took about 6hrs in total including stopping to take photos...in that 6 hrs, I saw the following animals: Elk American Bison Pronghorn Antelope River Otters Bald Eagles Wolves(2) Coyotes(3) Bighorn Sheep(1) I guess it's time for the photos.....so here ya go There's also a video if you're interested Coyote with a mouse Some Bison shots Bald Eagle Bighorn Sheep River Otters and lastly, a Wolf photo.....this wolf was very far away and I only took a photo because it was the first wolf I've ever seen so I couldn't pass it up
  11. Hey Everybody, The sun finally came out here in Vancouver today so I made the most of it and went out to take some photos. My goal was waterfowl flight shots but plans changed as the day went on.....here is the blog http://brandonbroderick.blogspot.com/2010/...-and-heron.html and here are the photos....enjoy First a sunrise shot Here are two of a Pileated Woodpecker 4 shots of Greater Yellowlegs....wonder where they get their name from? 2 shots of a GBH and lastly, a shot of a Red-tailed Hawk
  12. While photographing some waterfowl today, I had a flock of 8 Sandhill Cranes land fairly close so I couldn't pass up the opportunity. The blog from the day can be found here http://www.brandonbroderick.blogspot.com/ and the photos can be found below..... enjoy First the Cranes And now the waterfowl shots...

    Nice Buck

beauty timing on that one Dan!
  14. I got out today for some waterfowl photos. The weather wasn't optimal for it but it was better than just sitting at home. The birds weren't flying much so I focused on behavioral shots. The blog can be found here http://www.brandonbroderick.blogspot.com/ and the photos can be found here....enjoy
  15. Lately I haven't been doing much HDR (High Dynamic Range) photography so I had an idea. When I used to do HDR i would use 3 images; one 2 stops overexposed, one 2 stops underexposed, and one that was the correct exposure. However the most recent ones I did were made of 5 photos... +2, +1, 0, -1, -2.....(+ and - stand for over/under exposure just so everybody can follow). I found with the 3 photo HDR's the final image was either too overdone or just didn't capture it how I wanted. The 5 photo HDR's turned out a lot more like what I was hoping for. But in some cases, highlights were still too blown and shadows were still too dark despite editing. This led me to try and use even MORE photos and to try and create the "idea" I had. The idea consists of a Panoramic photo with 5 photos stitched side by side. Each of those photos is an HDR and each HDR was created with 9 photos. +2, +1.5, +1, +0.5, 0, -0.5, -1, -1.5, -2. If you do the math, that's 45 photos used to create this..... When I do HDR photography I try to keep the final result as natural looking as possible. When I first started, my shots looked like they were from another planet...and don't get me wrong, I still enjoy bumping the settings up a bit to give the photo a "painting" feel to it....The above one is sort of a combo between the natural/painting look. And this one is just another shot I took while at Cypress Creek...
  16. Hey Guys, I was asked to photograph Sloan here in Vancouver last night. They're one of my favourite Canadian bands so I was more than willing to take some shots...enjoy If you're interested, the review of the show can be found here http://www.guttersnipenews.com/2009/12/16/...ancouver-revie/
  17. Got out once this year for some bass fishing with a buddy here in BC.....It was the last week of October and he didn't think I could catch a largie on topwater at that time of year..... here is one of the 4 monsters I caught that day.....
  18. This morning I drove out to Harrison to look for Eagles again....Once again they were a lot further away than I'd like but I did manage 2 shots of one hanging out on a sandbank Found a cool looking marsh that made for a decent pano....the streaks you can see are snow flakes. It's also an HDR After that I headed back to North Van and took a few photos at Cypress Falls since we just got a bit of snow. I also made a video of the Cypress Falls shoot. I keep getting asked how I make the water look "silky" so I decided to show how I do it....enjoy Macro of an icicle And here is the link to the video if you're interested
  19. Hey Guys, I was asked to shoot the Steel Panther show at the Commodore here in Vancouver last night....I had to sign a release and all that legal stuff so I'm reluctant to upload the photos to photobucket in order to post here so if you're interested in seeing the shots, visit the gallery here Steel Panther Gallery And if you're wondering who they are, check out their stuff on youtube.....I can't post the links because they're not exactly PG enjoy
  20. Hey everybody, Got up nice and early for some sunrise photos in Tsawwassen, BC today...Then off to Ladner, BC where I got some photos of some waterfowl and Sandhill Cranes.....then to Harrison, BC for some eagle shots....eagle ones didn't really work out on account of the lack of eagles. I did manage one photo though....the blog can be found here http://www.brandonbroderick.blogspot.com/ Here are the sunrise shots, Now for the waterfowl... Cranes are next, And for the one eagle photo....These 2 eagles appeared to be trying to lock talons but didn't end up doing so however if you look closely, the one eagle is grabbing the tail feathers of the other.
  21. Harrison, BC is a wintering area for Bald Eagles and it's only about an hour and a half drive from Vancouver...so it would be silly of me not to go check it out. However today it was absolutely pouring so I wasn't sure how it would turn out. blog can be found here http://brandonbroderick.blogspot.com/2009/...day-eagles.html and photos can be found below. enjoy just a couple eagles eh? Eagle and GBH Eagle and other Eagle Single Post Double Post And now for one of my favorite eagle photos I've taken...there's something about the rain that gives this photo a cool mood
  22. Hey Guys, A while back I posted some photos of the band The Arkells at an outdoor venue here in Vancouver. I was given another opportunity to photograph them again thursday night, but this time it was at an indoor venue...called Venue. I'm not sure why but I prefer shooting concerts indoors rather than outdoors. There's more light outdoors but the lack of light inside gives the photos a grainy, almost grungy feel. That's just my opinion tho. Anyways here are some of the shots....enjoy
  23. Dan those were all shot with a 100-400
  24. Alright so the files were never actually lost...I just somehow skipped over them during my editing process during my time in the Queen Charlottes in 2008. I'm not sure what made me go back and look through the files again, but I did, and ended up finding 42 more useable photos. I'm still unsure why I didn't select them when I originally took them. Could have been because they weren't the "best" photo of the day and I only focused on the real decent ones. However some of these are as good if not better than some of the original selections....anyways who knows why I missed them, but here are 16 of the 42 newly found photos...enjoy
  25. It sure is bird poo. With the snow goose photos it's the most common thing I have to edit out....they crap like crazy while flying
