    Fireworks

Rick, I started off using really long exposures like 15 seconds long but too many would go off in that time and it just made a mess of the photos. All those are at f5.6-f6.3 and 2.5sec exposure

    Fireworks

I was trying different exposure times and the longer ones with the multiple fireworks in them just made a mess of the photo....they just ended up with too much going on at once. So I ended up just focusing on keeping them simple. Not to mention a lot of the photos have people walking through them....which doesn't do much for the picture lol....

    Fireworks

Wednesday night I decided to take a crack at photographing fireworks. The beach we watched them on was quite busy so once I found a spot, I stayed in it....this is why all the photos are from the same spot....enjoy The Pre-Fireworks sunset
  4. Today I was invited up to Grouse Mountain here in Vancouver by a friend of mine from college who works up there. He does the Bird in Motion demonstration and I thought it would be a great opportunity to take some photos of the birds. Unfortunately it was a pretty crappy day weather wise, but I still managed to take a few photos. However next time I'll aim for a sunny day. And also just to clarify, all these photos are of captive birds that have been raised by humans from birth. They are not wild animals and the grizzly bear is also not wild. enjoy... taken with my fisheye lens this is one of my two favorites from the day and this is my other favorite

Haven't done all that much shooting lately but here are 3 that I've taken in the last week...enjoy
  6. they're all great.....but the last one is by far my favourite
  7. some pretty crazy lookin clouds in that pic....very nice shot
  8. Rancid opened for Rise Against so I got to see them first but I didn't ask beforehand to take pics of rancid....i assumed it was only the headlining band that I needed permission for but this wasn't the case. It was the first real concert I took pics of so now I know for next time to ask for permission from all the bands on the bill
  9. Rise Against was in Vancouver last night to kick off their tour along with Rancid and the Riverboat Gamblers. I was able to get on the photo list for Rise Against. Other than one local small concert, this was my first real one I've photographed so it was a pretty cool experience with some rules to get used to. The rules are, first 3 songs and no flash. So it's a mad rush to get as many photos as you can during the first 3 songs. After the 3rd song all the photographers were ushered right out of the building....here is what I came up with....
  10. great report...I drive over the fraser daily....i really gotta get on this whole sturgeon fishing thing
  11. Today it was pretty overcast with some scattered showers so it wasn't a very pleasant looking day. I still wanted to get out and take some photos though. For a while now I've wanted to shoot some landscapes in black and white, and with a white colored sky, today was a perfect day for it....enjoy A Freighter at rest 2 rock climbers and the 2 climbers again but with a wider view
  12. Dan, My best birding lens is my Canon 100-400mm lens with Image Stabilization. It covers a wide zoom range and the IS makes shooting handled very easy and in most cases when I'm shooting birds or wildlife I'm always handholding the camera.
  13. looking good Dan. for the silky shots, try to either shoot at dusk or dawn or in areas with lots of trees. basically anywhere that is darker than broad daylight. The ND + Polarizer is also a good start. I've tried a few HDR photos with the silky water type idea in mind and haven't been as impressed with them as I was with the same shot taken normally. they're lookin good tho....keep em comin
  14. Last weekend I could only find one family of goslings/ducklings so I had to head out again today in search of more. This time I had a few different families to choose from. I also came across a few other birds as well...enjoy taking the plunge follow the leader GBH Rufous hummingbird on her nest...if weather cooperates tomorrow, I'm going to try and get some more pics of her

    Goslings

lol the key is to try and figure out where they're headed, then position yourself along that path so they end up coming to you. A big zoom lens helps a lot too

    Goslings

I went out today in search of some goslings or ducklings to photograph because nothing says spring like baby ducks and geese.....however i was still a bit early and there were still ducks and geese sitting on nests. I did manage to find one family though.... and this swallow looked like it could be a cartoon character so I took a picture of it as well

  21. I went for a hike at Lighthouse Park here in West Vancouver tonight and brought my camera along with me. As I got close to the ocean I could make out some sea ducks. It wasn't until I got right to the shore that I realized how many there were....It was crazy how many birds there were. Here are just some shots of the flock Here are some more shots of the Scoters but this time I played around with the shutter speed And finally another slow shutter speed photo in black and white due to a rather dull sunset... enjoy
  22. nothing special, just a couple pics from this afternoon
  23. It was beautiful in Vegas on sunday so I took a 6hr day drip west to Red Rock Canyon.....I couldn't afford the grand canyon tour, but hopefully next time. Anyways here are some photos I took in and around Red Rock Canyon..enjoy
