  1. great pics evster. i like the first one with the windmill a lot......i also have to point out that there is some dust on your sensor....first picture about 2" to the right of the windmill near the top......if you don't have a blower already, I highly recommend it. I use mine all the time to keep the sensor clean.
  2. i love the reflections in the 3rd pic......great batch of photos
  3. when shooting flowin water scenes I like to keep everything in focus....or try anyways......this means foreground and background. To do this requires a small aperture (high aperture value)......but this is good because the higher the aperture value (smaller the aperture) the less light allowed into the camera and therefore the slower shutter speed you can get away with......keeping the iso lower will also let you get away with a slower shutter speed and so will a circular polarizer........keep in mind though that a super slow shutter speed isn't always what is needed to get that silky appearance......i find between 1 and 3 seconds works good but it all depends on the scene, the water speed, amount of agitation in the water, and just the overall appearance your trying to get. The slow shutter speed sometimes works against you though such as on a windy day. In some of the above photos you can see where branches have become blurry because the wind came up as the photo was being taken. A couple more hints......always use a tripod, and certainly don't be afraid to use your camera's timer. I was using the 2 second timer on my camera yesterday and due to the wind I was still getting camera shake so I had to use the 10 second shutter and just hope i had some luck with me. And finally......don't be afraid to experiment with different aperture, iso, and shutter speeds. It's more of a trial and error type thing than anything. Good luck and can't wait to see what you come up with
  4. don't mind this
  5. Well I've moved back to Vancouver again, North Vancouver this time though. Last time I lived in Vancouver I was driving to North Van daily to hike/take photos so this time I just decided to live right in North Van. Alright so I've been back since the 30th and its rained until today. So I made the most of the weather and headed to Cypress Falls Park and took a few photos. Most are of the same subject however some are portrait oriented and some are landscape oriented and some are black and white aswell....enjoy here is some abandoned climbing rope and here is a bridge i've photographed many times before and finally a little set of falls Now the reason for the black and white photos is because the colour of the water. It's not very clean looking and the levels are waaay higher than normal. We had a ton of snow here and its all melting now so most of the normal places I take photos from at Cypress Falls are now feet below the water.......anyways sorry for the repeats......
  6. if you have lighting already on the object then the camera should properly adjust and not over expose it......so It would probably help quite a bit
  7. For taking pictures of your art for online use, the 4.1megapixels should be fine. Megapixels are only an issue when you are trying to blow a photo up larger to be printed. More megapixels also let you digitally zoom on the computer and in turn this allows for cropping without really being able to tell the original photo was cropped. with 4.1 megapixels, when you digitally zoom, it would become blurry fast. Lighting could be an issue as well. If your camera has a built in flash, try keeping the camera as far away from the artwork as possible, that way the flash won't wash out the photo. If you were to get a new camera with more megapixels, i'd recommend an entry level DSLR which would give you the option of an accessory flash. The difference is huge when you compare 2 photos, one with the built in flash, and one with the accessory flash. Hope this helps Brandon
  8. very nice....makes you feel like your actually there
  9. The thing i've found with juvie balds is they always look bigger than the adults and from what i've learned it's due to their down feathers which are apparently more fluffy in the younger birds giving them a bigger appearance.....but again, nice pics....i love the deer ones
  10. Great pics Dan.....That Eagle looks like an immature bald and not a Golden.....that's based on the mottled appearance of it. most of the goldens i've seen have been pretty well solid brown, whereas bald eagles take 4-5 years to get their white head and tail....regardless theyre some beauty pics
  11. The shots you've produced in the past without an SLR camera have been incredible......I'm really looking forward to seeing what you can do with the added features of a DSLR
  12. Canon EOS 50D is the camera body I use....and those pics were taken with a 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L Lens made my Canon as well
  13. Pam, If you take a closer look at the first picture, on the right hand side and a third of the way down, you'll see stairs that lead to a catwalk above the ice.....Really allows for some interesting pictures.
  14. So the Windsor Spitfires got a new arena and they played their first game there this past thursday. The new place, The WFCU Centre is waaaay too nice for this city......anyways I work there as a photographer and have taken photos at their last 3 games......here is a selection of photos..... GAME ONE Fisheye of the WFCU Centre Opening Drop Gleeson in net.......with the 18 of Mickey Renaud behind him so close superman blocker save GAME TWO ruled NO GOAL......what do you think? this one was a goal nice save final goal of the game good scrap.....note fist of white jersey connecting solidly with side of head/face of black jersey spits salute the crowd after the victory GAME THREE like a fish outta water save close call good battle out front..........Mitchell, 71 is airborne goal
  15. lookin good........the one suggestion I have for you is whenever shooting birds and wildlife, always leave more room in front of the bird/animals face than room behind it......other than that ur off to a good start
  16. Dan covered the 2 main things I would have commented on but for a first batch of photos I'd say your off to a real good start. The rule of thirds is one of the the key rules I discovered when I first started taking pictures. And now that I've learned the rule of thirds, I don't even think about it anymore.....just becomes part of pushing the shutter button. Keep at it though. Really looking forward to seeing how you progress
  17. centerpin.......I use a Canon 50D Body with a Canon 100-400L series lens.......well i used to anyways......my monopod pulled apart the other day while carrying my camera and it came crashing to the cement trail i was walking on........the lens was fine but the body is cracked in many places. Still waiting to hear if it's repairable or not.....if not I'll probably just get the same camera again......no complaints with the 50D so far
  18. brandon

    3 Banger

very cool.......I like how it's in 3 parts
  19. Canon EOS 50D body with a 100-400 f4.5-5.6L Lens and just a UV filter on it but the filter is just there to protect the glass of the lens
  20. Couple pics from this morning...
  21. Hey Chilli thanks for the tips.....I am a hunter and i've also been a hunting guide so when I do take photos I treat it like I am hunting. Sometimes even fully camo'd and in a ground blind. Since I have gotten more and more into photography I've put my camera as my top weapon instead of bow or shotgun.....plus the adrenaline rush when encountering a bear with a bow is one thing, but when armed with only a camera and on the ground at the bears level is a whole new rush. THe wood duck box is a good idea for the screech owls too. We don't have many trees in our backyard here so for now I'll just keep going to the local nature area and take pictures.....plus I try not to take photos with bird feeders/houses in them.....just my personal choice though Anyways thanks for taking the time to check out my photos
  22. Went back to look for the little fella again today and sure enough he was in the same place........had a bit of photoshop fun with the last 2 pics......enjoy
  23. lol I didn't do a thing to the little guy......thats just the most he would open his eyes
  24. Found this little fella nestled in the stump of an old tree today.....
  25. I went for a walk in a nearby forest this afternoon during a nice snowfall hoping to spot some deer. I saw a few at this same spot a few days ago and today they were in pretty much the same spot. This time however there was more deer, 6 in total. The deer were in some pretty thick stuff so I had to get closer and position myself for some photos. After about 10 minutes of some really slow movements, I was in a good spot. 2 of the younger deer were pretty curious and came quite close to me so I spent most of the time photographing them.....enjoy
