  1. Drifter is correct about the no firearms however we were at the Brooks River, not McNeil. And we had bear spray with us. The problem with the bear bangers is that if you shoot it towards a bear and it goes off behind the bear, it may scare the bear in your direction!....but we had no close calls with the bears
  2. This time lapse is similar to others I've shot since It was done from my balcony. However this one is a bunch of different shots including day, night, and a pretty cool sunset. Enjoy!
  3. Here it is, the 3rd and final video from my trip to Katmai National Park and Preserve to photograph Grizzlies!
  4. yes he is....he's compensating for the distance between us and the bears
  5. Here's the second video from my time in Katmai National Park and Preserve in Alaska photographing Grizzlies....enjoy and watch in HD!!
  6. It's taken me far too long to get this video posted but here is part 1. I decided to leave my 500mm lens back at camp one of the days and shoot video to give everyone the opportunity to see what the shooting conditions were like....enjoy and watch in HD! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JJOoDKdv5Z8
  7. I'm in the process of submitting queries to try and get some photos published and I came across a couple images that I somehow skipped over before. The first one is a shot of a Grizzly Bear that's got a wandering eye! I'm not sure why but I've never thought of animals having problems like this. Here's the original photo followed by a cropped version to better show the eyes. 8. Thanks guys. Leechman, I got my muskie on the Redhorse Sucker pattern
  9. I was asked by Jon Bondy to take some photos of his creation, The Bondy Bait. Since I had never done a product shoot before I wasn't sure what to expect. A couple problems I had to solve were getting the baits to stand up and keeping the blades from laying flat. A few lead weights wrapped in white paper subtly solved the problem of the baits falling over and a small screw was used to keep the blades up. Here are a few of the shots... 10. Thanks guys!...and yes, I'm definitely hooked now!
  11. Nice shots Dan! That one is a Beast!!
  12. Unfortunately I didn't get to experience one of the violent hits that often occurs with the Bondy Bait. In my case the line just went slack on the drop...and man what a feeling setting the hook into such a fish!!
  13. It may be a different subspecies but I think it's just a non-typical buck
  14. I know a lot of you guys keep bugging me about only posting photography reports and never fishing reports....well today, I went fishing. A guy by the name of Jon Bondy lives in my apartment building, and if any of you fish the Detroit River or St. Clair, chances are you've heard of his bait...The Bondy Bait. Anyways Jon Invited me out for some Muskie fishing this morning on the river. I've never fished for muskie before and the only one I've ever caught was about 18" long while Bass fishing...so it doesn't really count. Jon fishes the river almost daily so I was quite confident he could put me on a fish. We were on the water at 630 and it was a very slow start...in fact so slow, that this fish was caught on our LAST pass before heading in around 1230pm. Alright enough typing, here's the pic...oh and I don't want to get in trouble for posting links but if you guys are interested in fishing with Jon or checking out his bait, feel free to google.... 48" November Muskie November Muskie! by bbroderick86, on Flickr
  15. I went back to Ojibway Park in Windsor today to try and get some more Deer photos. I was hoping to find the big buck from last time, and I did, however when I saw him I was mid conversation with some people that had some photography questions. By the time the convo was over, the deer was out of sight. I walked to where I thought he might be and ended up finding a smaller guy that didn't mind posing for a photo....here he is Small White-tailed Deer by bbroderick86, on Flickr
  16. Well everyone...the judges made their decision and Top 10 is the best I'll get this year. Thanks again to everyone who voted!!! Winners can be seen here-->http://celebrateparks.ca/

And I was just notified today that all the top 10 videos will be screened at the Vancouver International Mountain Film Festival(vimff.org) in February!! Also, the winning video will be announced on friday nov. 12th so I'll let you guys know how I finish. Thanks again!!
  18. This guy played peek-a-boo with me for a while yesterday but I was eventually able to get a clear shot at him...enjoy! White-tailed Deer by bbroderick86, on Flickr
  19. Thanks for the kind words everyone and also for the input on the book idea! I'll post updates when I have them.
  20. I believe the M(medium) and L(large) settings are the file sizes. That's how they are on my Canon SLR's so I'm assuming it's the same for your SX. If you do plan on digitally zooming and cropping, I'd shoot on the largest setting possible. The instruction manual should give you specs on exactly what resolution each of those settings is. And Terry nailed it about the mega pixels....6 is plenty for the avg shooter.
  21. haha yeah Cudz, all taken with my Blackberry Curve....it's amazing how far technology has come lol Governator...No more trips planned forsure at the moment but I would like to spend some more time in Banff/Jasper (at least 2 weeks) and I'd also like to head down to Yellowstone for a week or two. We'll see what my cash situation is like though...turns out driving to Alaska and back isn't cheap in the gas department...who knew? And to answer your question about the bears - No. There wasn't a single moment where one of the bears acted aggresively at all. Actually that was one of the neatest parts about the whole trip...being that close to such huge animals and it was almost like there was this mutual respect between us...We stayed out of their way, they didn't eat us...keep in mind that where I was shooting is a pretty popular spot to photograph Grizzlies (Brooks Falls/River) so the bears are used to people being around. I wouldn't dare get that close to bears that don't see much human activity.
  22. As most of you know I'm back from my trip to Alaska. And if you've been following my posts, you know i've mentioned doing a big write up for the trip. And over these last few days I've started to write...and write some more...and some more...so much that I've had to stop because my write up is turning into a full blown book. I'm even leaving out parts to try and keep it at a reasonable length but I don't feel the story is the same without all the details. So I'm taking a break on it and seriously considering doing a coffee table style book filled with my story as well as lots and lots of photos complete with camera specs/details for each shot. So until I figure out weather or not that's a good idea (feel free to share your thoughts on this as well), here are some of my favorite shots from the trip...enjoy! Now this is fishing Grizzly Bear (Ursus arctos horribilis) by bbroderick86, on Flickr It's quite successful too Grizzly Bear (Ursus arctos horribilis) by bbroderick86, on Flickr We saw these 2 bears fighting on 3 seperate occasions. Thanks for reading!
  23. Thanks guys and thanks for posting it Krisco! Definitely a first thing for me to have something written about what I've done in the paper so it was a pretty cool experience...I believe another local publication is sending a writer to interview me about the trip as well so we'll see how that turns out.
  24. Hey Everyone! I know I still haven't posted all the photos from my trip to Alaska yet but that will be very soon. I'm still just trying to get all the photo work done with first before I work on doing the write up. And one of the things I did with the photos, was make a time lapse. I did the same thing a while back with photos from a Wide Mouth Mason and ZZ Top concert that I shot so I figured I'd do the same with bear photos....so here it is-6 days worth of photos in under 2 minutes...enjoy! oh..and watch in HD!
  25. Thanks to everyone who voted for my Point Pelee Time Lapse!! With your help I was able to make it into the top 10 for the contest. My time lapse will now be viewed by a panel of judges and a winner will be announced on friday!! Thanks again!
