Admission is free of charge to the 7 p.m. show. Doors open at 6 p.m. for best seating. Mercer is one of the best known professional anglers in Canada and is the host of television’s Facts of Fishing THE SHOW and Facts of Fishing Tip Series. He is also the popular emcee of the Bassmaster Classic and Elite Series. The City of Greater Sudbury is sponsoring Dave Mercer’s appearance as part of its fifth annual Water Gathering, a yearly event presented by community partners to promote the protection and preservation of our natural waterways. “Each year, our Water Gathering partners choose a topic of interest to local stakeholders,” said Stephen Monet, Manager of Environmental Planning Initiatives for the City of Greater Sudbury. “This year, we’re appealing to local anglers, to raise awareness of their important role as stewards of our lakes and rivers.” Information booths will be hosted by the Sudbury Game and Fish Protective Association, the Vale Living with Lakes Centre, and the City of Greater Sudbury’s Biodiversity and Lake Water Quality programs, in the lobby of Fraser Auditorium during the event. The Fifth Annual Watering Gathering is a partnership of the City of Greater Sudbury, the Nickel District Conservation Authority, the Junction Creek Stewardship Committee, the Sudbury & District Health Unit and the Vale Living with Lakes Centre. About Dave Mercer: Canadian professional angler Dave Mercer spends over 250 days a year fishing for just about anything that swims and when he’s not on the water, there’s nothing he won’t do to promote the sport of fishing. As host of television’s Facts of Fishing THE SHOW and Facts of Fishing Tip Series, Mercer has eaten worms, minnows and even plastic lures just to see why fish find them tasty. He made history by throwing the first ever “cast” in major league baseball and has jammed a hook into his hand to show anglers how to get it out. Mercer’s signature style combines high energy and outrageous comedy with valuable lessons to catch more and bigger fish. His one-minute fishing tips are seen over 250 times a week on the nationally broadcast The Score and are also featured on The Weather Network and The World Fishing Network. He has also grown his company to include Facts of Fishing seminars to meet his viewers, affectionately known as “The Mercenaries”, and to speak with fellow anglers. As a professional angler, the Port Perry native still finds time for competitive fishing. In January 2005, he set a new unofficial world record for the largest Tambaqui caught in the world. Its been a while since I posted, its been a pretty crazy winter for me. Anyone whose ever had to put their parents in an Old Age home will know what I mean. (Nuf said about that.) It had been three weeks since there was any snow in Sturgeon so we figured that it would be a safe bet to get into camp. I coudnt believe the snow that was still up there.. a few spots in the road. (Normally I dint even try till May 1st) Heres some pics from Camp.. I cant wait to get back! As always Spring Fishing is tough.. we did (WELL I DID) manage tp pull a nice pike off the bottom with a big deep diving crankbait. Pond behind Camp Jaden and Jamie Creek Beside Camp Very Happy everything was on one piece.. hadnt been back since Nov. Jaden inAction Saw our first moose The boast was nice. A sight for sore, tired eyes! Another sight for sore tired eyes. The trail in. Fishing in PJ's TJ 1 - Everyone Else - 0 So far Im in the LEAD!! Ahh the old snow in the wheelbarrow cooler!!

OK... How about this..... 26 years ago when I worked at the Shell Station in Sturgeon, Gas was 45 cents a litre and Min wage was 3.85 an hour. Minimum Wage is now 10.25 an hour or 2.7 times as much as I got back then. If we multiply the price if gas then by 2.7 times we get the equivalent of $1.22 a litre now when using min wage as a comparison. So my point is that its not the cost of gas thats increased, (compared to wages) its everyones disposable income and the ability to pay for the gas amongst everything else we get dinged for thats the problem.

Dr. Stephen Sheridan, the former chief veterinarian of the Toronto Humane Society, pleaded guilty to three counts of failing to comply with the conditions of a Wildlife Custodian Authorization and was fined $1,000. The court heard that between July 4, 2007, and October 10, 2008, Dr. Sheridan was ultimately responsible for the violation of three conditions of his Wildlife Custodian Authorization. Dr. Sheridan pleaded guilty to the release of raccoons on property in the Newmarket area, more than one kilometre from where they were captured. The authorization prohibits releasing raccoons more than one kilometre from point of capture in order to prevent the spread of diseases that they might carry. Dr. Sheridan also pleaded guilty to failing to notify the Area Manager of the Ministry of Natural Resources of receiving a specimen that is listed on the Species at Risk in Ontario list, and to failing to enter required information into the logbook within 24 hours on many occasions. Keeping proper records and ensuring that the ministry is aware of the intake of Species at Risk in Ontario is necessary to ensure that all wildlife is properly handled by a wildlife custodian, and to enable the ministry to intervene, if necessary. Justice of the Peace Jay Hong heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice, Toronto, February 16, 2012. The Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act, 1997, prohibits any person from keeping live game wildlife or live specially protected wildlife in captivity except under the authority of a Wildlife Custodian Authorization and in accordance with the regulations. Wildlife custodians are authorized to provide specialized temporary care to sick, injured and orphaned wildlife so that they can be returned to the wild. To report a natural resources violation, call 1-877-TIPS-MNR (847-7667) toll-free any time or contact your local ministry office during regular business hours. You can also call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

Four Toronto residents have been fined $2,500 for illegal salmon fishing on the Humber River in the City of Toronto. Richard Muntyan, Ervin Paczok and Iles Glosczi pleaded guilty to charges under the Fisheries Act and the Ontario Fishery Regulations and were each fined a total of $500. Tibor Danyi also pleaded guilty to charges under the Fisheries Act and the Ontario Fishery Regulations and was fined a total of $1,000. In addition to the fines, their fishing equipment has been permanently forfeited. The court heard that on the afternoon of October 8, 2011, Ministry of Natural Resources conservation officers found the men fishing within 25 yards downstream of a dam on the Humber River, in an area that is closed to fishing. The men were also observed to repeatedly jerk large weighted hooks and fishing lures through the water in order to deliberately snag salmon. Migratory fish, such as rainbow trout and salmon, are vulnerable to poaching when they congregate in the pools at the base of dams while moving upstream to spawn. Signs posted along the river remind anglers that no fishing is permitted within 25 yards downstream of the dam. Public complaints to enforcement officers have helped catch anglers who ignore the signs. Justice of the Peace Alice Napier heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice in Toronto, on January 12, 2012. For further information on fishing regulations, please consult the 2012 Recreational Fishing Regulations Summary, available at ServiceOntario/Government Information Centres, licence issuers and at ontario.ca/fishing. To report a natural resources violation, call 1-877-TIPS-MNR (847-7667) toll-free any time or contact your local ministry office during regular business hours. You can also call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
