I like the scotty because they are fast, we clear the lines most of the time when we have a fish on and with just 2 of us in the boat I have to hustle to get the lines clear, keep some control on the boat and get ready to net Dad's fish. And if I get a big one on the noodle rod we get the lines clear, set the boat adrift and Dad can find something to read or watch a movie on the DVD.

We have a group of 5 to 50 guys depending on weather that camp for a weekend and fry up some smallies. Unfortunately the remote spot we go to had become a hot spot on the pro bass circuit. A few years ago one of the pro bass guys took some time of his tourney fishing to make a pass by our camp with his tv cameras. We got home Sunday night in time to see us on the 6 o'clock news being blamed for wiping out the fish population. I guess its our fault that there are no longer any smallmouth in Lake Ont.

Keeping in mind that the canoe is the # 1 in boating deaths and your not experienced in one yourself and at this time of year your chances aren't good if you end up in the water even with a pfd. What is going to happen if you end up in the water, will the dog swim for shore or will it climb up on you. I know a guy that ended up this way and had to hold the dog under to get it to stop climbing on him and pulling him under. To the couple hundred campers that were watching it looked like he was trying to drown the dog....

Its amazing what guys will spend on insurance but they wont spend $150 on a safe boating coarse. If you know your collision regs. know your aids to navigation, know where you are and know what your doing you cut your risk factor way down.

Unless they are from a farmed animal I'm pretty sure its against the law to sell them.
-
To have someone charged for trespassing on property that is not posted you have to ask them to leave and can charge them if they refuse. The only time you can charge them on the spot is if they are in a cultivated field. At least thats how it works for farmers.

A little late but the first thing to come to mind was, Jack Daniels. Also cures sea sickness.

If you have Harold in your tank you cannot catch him in a net, you cannot grab him by hand, you cannot annoy Harold at all when he is out off season but but you can catch him with a hook and line when he's in season. That means you can only clean the tank when Harold is in season. Now if Harold gets smart and won't bite anymore you may have one stinky aquarium and might want to toss him in a lake but you can't legally catch him so you have to take the tank and only when he's in season and that might not be legal as you didn't catch him angling so you might not be able to legally get rid of him. AS Harold has more rights than you do in your own home he may end up claiming sanctuary and evicting you.

I considered a tourny once but the rules disqualified my boat. I've done some engine mods that I estimate to put the motor around 250hp that gives me a terrifying 32mph on a good day.

Keep an eye on the Quinte site, when the guys start spearing they like to post there to stir em up.

Give them the keys, keep your mouth shut, and get the ell out. The last thing you want to do is draw any attention. If coons have been in there as long as you say the house should likely be torn down and if some health authorities show up they just might make them do it. At the least all the insulation should be replaced and the cost will be in the $k's and you don't want anybody looking at you for $ so get out as fast as you can.

The # 1 thing to get more people into fishing is to drop the license because that wiped out a lot of occasional fishers. In the late 80's salmon fishing was the hot ticket and a lot of fisherman invested heavily into offshore boats that might not be suitable for bass and eye tournies so that might have taken a chunk out of the # of fishers that might have gotten into them. As for the big HP high speed thing, I had a guy go 3 miles out of his way so he could blast by me in a deep v offshore racer and rock my boat. It wasn't illegal just ignorant. On the other hand I've had a 1200 hp racing cat pass within 50' and not even rock our boat at all and that was way cool cause we were there to check out the boats. My point is that the faster most boats go the less wake they make so most guys aren't trying to pizz you off, they're trying not to rock your boat and unless they are reckless you should not be offended. As one here stated guys buy these fast boats because of a short appendage, if this is so when someone complains about them are they truly offended or is it appendage envy.

filtered try again please is a controlled substance now that we have nutrient management, you can't just pile filtered try again please anymore unless you have a proper acreage/filtered try again please ratio, unless Terry wasn't referring to actual filtered try again please but some other smelly filtered try again please. What you need is a hundred geese . "Winfield Farm"

I used to get some engine stuff off the local tackle shop, they have the same marine catalog as the marinas but he would give me great deals as he didn't need the huge mark up if there was no investment on ordered items.

Fenwick was a great rod, made in Ca. but they got bought out for their reputation and to eliminate the competition. If you can find one thats around 20 years old you got yourself a good rod. B I L broke the end off my 25 year old fenwick last year but no other rod would have survived that either. lesson.... never give up the good stuff, have a rod for lending.

You want to license your boat not register it, the license gets you a set of #'s for the bow where registration gets you a name and can cost a few $K. I have a buddy who is registering his boat and it's turning into a nightmare. There is a form for licensing a boat without the proper paper work, if someone needs it I can hunt it up or you can try www.boatingsafety.gc.ca

New Boater - Boat Launch Advice and Etiquette
POLLIWOGG replied to love2fishhave2work's topic in General Discussion
Do not park in the turn around spot . I used to leave notes for these clowns ,now I leave two long skid marks, its faster. I figure they want their insurance to buy them a new paint job or they wouldn't be there. Check the water at the ramp, Ive seen where power loaders have piled gravel so high you can't use the ramp once the water level drops. -
Thats real nice but I would suggest a holder for a pair of needle nose pliers with sidecutters just in case. If you hang up a rigger in a strong following sea you got less than 3 seconds to cut that cable.

Read the policy, some are particular as to where you keep your boat, you may be paying for something you can't use. No preference because I don't insure the boat.

Theres a big difference in the 5hp and the 8hp as your going from a single to a twin. there are some outboards out there that are used on rag haulers and have very low hrs on them and have more resale value. I paid 800 for a 8 hp yami 2 st. because it only had a half lt of oil through it and it was clean as brand new. It was used to take a small sailboat in and out of the harbor for a few years.

If you can get paper charts for your water you got it made, I still use the gps with a chart on my lap.

Hmmm Check out the price on Irish's bird.
-
Keep in mind that going from low bench seats to high pedestals is going affect the stability of the boat, it wont be like your used to.

Finger. No I didn't cut it off, used to just touch the tip of little finger to the water and wait for a perch to grab it and if I was fast enough I could flip it on to the dock before it let go.

They told us they went to every location and decided if the marker was needed or not. I know that coast guard has been convinced to leave some buoys when approached by local users, I would only hope Parks Canada would be as accommodating. They might argue that their markers are there to keep you off structure and not to help you find it but this may be where the real hazard exists.
