Lol. Check my previous reports Johnny. The launch past the causeway is $6.00 courtesy box, but shallow, as mentioned. If you want to get to the West end of the lake, you'll have to travel South to the high bridge ("hole in the wall"). I know the lake very, very well. PM me if ya got questions. Oh, Pike have been on this year, all in the 25'-35' range. Largies are biting, all two pounders, but there are some serious hawgs in there. Lots of weed growth, tough to fish sometimes. You'll have luck with the jig-n-pig. What days are you gonna be there?

I pretty much grew up on the lake as my parents used to vacation there every summer from when I was an infant until well into my teens. I returned last year for a visit and a quick fish. There are Largies and Smallies, and if I remember my childhood, limited cats and lakers in the deeper areas. But fishing isn't the greatest. Best bet is to go to the public beach early, walk to the drop off and toss out a minnow or worm under a bobber. Bass I caught last year had worms in it. Test your luck. But expect it to be slow. You can try the Madawaska River, govt launch in Combermere.

I use PP 20# green on my spinning gear and 50# red on my baitcaster. Luv 'em both, however, the red comes of on your hands, reel and rod eyes. Never had it snap, even got it wrapped around a tree branch parcticing with egg sinkers in the backyard during the boring-arse winter and nearly took the whole tree (50#). Line dug DEEP into the branch as I wanted to test its strength, would've been my PB maple.

1) In abscence of weeds, whacky is great. Just let it drop to the bottom, slight movement on the bottom. I prefer weightless texas rig as it's more weed free. Same method, just let it drop and sit. 2) Ususally, I'll wait a moment and give it a couple twitches, maybe a short return, and wait awhile longer. If that doesn't entice a strike, I'll follow up with a plastic to the same spot, ie. see no. 1

My red PP line still looks red in the water. Most of my trailer hooks for my spinnerbaits are the red Gamus, I bought for the same "bleeding" quality. Can't determine if it has contributed to more strikes or not, as I don't see a major difference with other coloured trailers. The red "bleeds" of the trailers pretty quickly though, in turn making them hooks silver

BPS baitcasters are approx. $36.00. Not top quality, but gets the job done. They even come in a two-piece

It's a should've, would've, could've sort of situation now. I can understand why you didn't get the MNR involved for the sake of the lodge and the sake of your family's vacation. "Don't but heads if it's uneccessary and will bring no change" is a good philosphy and saves me from many a headache. I can't claim to know the legality of his actions, but from my pov, it is unethical. I can keenly observe that this guy was a looking for center stage. My approach would have been to engage into a discussion with him, ensure he was moving to centerstage, and call him out infront of his audience. A little ego bruisin can go a long way sometimes. So once you make he and his audience feel like an for accepting this behaviour it'll make him either reconsider his actions or stop Just my 2 cents Gerritt. Can you tell I'm a little myself?

Sounds like the Anglers Association is entrenched with the interest of the charters there. Catching big bass is big business, but as we do all to well in North America, we don't put reasonable limits on consumption until the problem starts hurting local economies. It would be a hard sell to align the "immediate" interest of the fishery with the charters, and thus, a hard sell to the MNR. Although, long term, their interest are all ready aligned. Write a thoughtful letter to the MNR for their condsideration including your points mentioned above, a case study proving slot sizes working, impact analysis on the local economy and, in closing, advise as to a petition being formed on the matter. Send a copy to the MNR and also your local press. Get statements from the anglers association and those petitions filled by as many as you can. Update the press and maybe they'll pick up the story, get some spotlight and take it from there. But that's just grassroots wishful thinking

Avery point is also a good fishing spot on the lake. Senko's dropped on weed edges should get you into some bass.
