Saltys, Line, and Fleas in Lake Ontario

I'll be running a 19 strand 30lb wire this year... it's very forgiving for kinks. I have six S-17's and I love them but they're hard to find! I had mounting plates made for them to fit my Bert's tracks. They will also fit Traxstech and the new Cannon tracks. If you want info on the mounting plates, shoot me a PM. -
Lights on while driving is a nightmare but can be handy for docking. I would suggest a single remote unit on the bow. They're not cheap but I've been on a friends boat that has one and it's the cat's behind!!! Remote is super handy if you're fishing solo. The LMS internal antenna issues were sorted out from the 3xx series to the 5xx series and I believe all the HDS units are internal. I bought a 522igps so I could use it as a portable for rentals, on the bow for casting days, for ice fishing and for shallow water trolling. I also have an external 525 unit on my boat in case the 522 can't 'see' through my bimini top and the 522 can be networked to use the external antenna.

Nice report guys! -Brian -
Great report Ryan & Averie! I loved the video, is it like that every time you go out with Dave too? -Brian

As you know, these units have been discontinued. They are in short supply and demand is rising. Your options of where to buy might be shrinking daily! I'll be running a 525 & 522 this year.

I've always said "I don't eat anything that swims or flies" to which the usual reply is "You don't like chicken?". Perhaps I don't hang with a bright crowd. I've tried many species of fish from out of the can, out of the deepfryer to out of the livewell. I just don't have a taste for it to enjoy a meal. I don't have a taste for much out of the ordinary but I will say I loved the deer sausage Pete and Bill forced upon me at Lakair last year. I'm usually willing to try new things. -Brian

If you Could Have the Fishing Moment Back Again
SlowPoke replied to musky_man's topic in General Discussion
I have many but one that comes to mind was fishing Balsam Lake near the park. It had been a really slow day and I washed nearly everything in the box. I tossed a J7 chartreuse a good 30yrds from the boat and watched the ripples develop. Just as I pulled to make the lure dive for retrieve, a mammoth Small Mouth nails it. There would be no fight as I pulled it right out of his mouth. The first instinct was to burn it back and hit the spot. It never works. This time it did. It was a nice fight back to the boat, darting left and right, pulling drag on a light mono rig. We were without a net but managed to land this golden beauty by hand. Never got a measurement or weight on it but I think it still stands as my PB smallie. I'd estimate over 5, under 6lb. I have a picture somewhere, long before the digital days. -Brian -
LOL, drive five hours to get a scratch repaired? Sorry about the scratch Nancy. I was going to leave a note but I was in a rush. But seriously, it kinda looks like a shopping cart rash or a baby stroller... as someone else mentioned, a key scratch is typically straight. Good luck with the repair, I hope it doesn't cost too much.

Hi Rob, I have a Honda BF8 with tank/hoses etc. You're welcome to drop by and give it a run off my tank. Mine was running a little rough and hard starting but a little carb tweaking did the job. I'm sure mine could use a good carb cleaning as well! South London... Bradley/Millabnk area

Wow, couldn't ask for better weather!!! Had a great time Emil and I'll see you Sunday. Hey, let's skip the basement work and take the boat out!! Some more pic's from today... Early morning long shadows Emil's first of the day. It was small but they kept getting bigger! Saw lots of this today!!

...anyway... Great looking ride there Lew. Nice colour combo!

I'd be inclined to say weak coil but I don't know enough about that vehicle. Single or seperate coils? Also could be a bad injector spraying the plug or weak fuel pressure. Sometimes it's best to get diagnosed professionally than throwing parts at a problem.

What about eliminating attachments and requiring tags for image/video?

BRILLIANT!!!!! That was one of those true laughing out loud moments!!!!!!

I didn't know what to expect when I clicked on the link! The message is clear; DON NOT LEND YOUR BOAT AND TRUCK TO FRIENDS! Great video Peter. I bought an inflatable PFD just for those occasions... I just have to start wearing it all the time.

I use the nail knot for everything except splicing leadcore (willis). The nail knot covers braid/mono/fluoro, different diameters, snells... I can't think of anything it wouldn't work for although I'm sure there is something. I'm going to try it on leadcore as well.

I look forward to this show every year and once again, it didn't disappoint. We met for breakfast at "The Big City Diner"; my daughters and I were accompanied buy MrEh, Deg & Ruth. ChrisK & Carole had to cancel because Chris wrenched his back at work the night before but I don't feel sorry for him as he spent the day in the hot tub! Breakfast was great, nothing like starting your day off with steak and eggs! We arrived at the show around 10:15 (opened at 10) and it was really busy but no trouble parking. The first thing on my shopping list was clip-on polerized lenses. I lost mine while netting a 48" muskie on Labour Day and was able to find two pairs for $35 at the second both we came to. I know they can be had cheaper online but it was nice to browse such a wide selection and ensure a perfect fit. We then browsed some of the 20 or so resorts and outfitters located close together in the first building. There are more scattered throughout the show but mostly grouped together. Now it's tackle time. First on the list was Angling Outfitters with a huge booth. They were in thier regular spot occupying most of the back wall of the first building and it was very busy. Jos has company rep's, charter captains and volunteers manning his booth while he runs around like waterbug giving out deals. That guy has more energy than HydroOne. After leaving the main building you enter the link building where Free Time Sports (Woodstock), JB's and Tightlines are located. I was sad to see that Wally's from Windsor was missing this year. In years past they had some of the better tackle deals. As the other poster mentioned, most of the bargains were 2 for, 3 for, 4 for type deals. From the "Link", you enter the "Canada" building, the first of three jammed with boats. Second on my list of priorities was getting my boaters card. BoatSmart had two displays in the show offering testing. Price was $60 but if you said "What? $60!" then they would quickly whip out a $10 OFF discount card and offer it to you. I wrote the 36 question test in less time than it took to mark it. What a joke. We didn't spend much time looking at boats because Don and Mike just bought boats last year and I don't have any money! What did catch out attention was a glass sloop style boat made in Newfoundland and Admiral boats made here in London. Very unique in thier own ways. By this time the snow was beginning to fly around 1PM. Don and Ruth wanted to get out and run ahead of the storm. Mike and I made our way back to the first building and ran into Kelvin on the way for a quick chat. After Mike and I parted ways, we went to Jay's Fly Shop. Jay was having an open house in lieu of a booth at the show. Offering coffee/timbits and most importantly, discounts. Jay emailed me a few days prior to let me know he had some hand picked bucktails set aside. This was a good opportunity to bring my daughters to have a look at some of the really cool flies on display. I also grossed them out with the bunny mask and the fox mask. Hehehe scarred for life! What a great day! -Brian

Yes! The one on the desk and the one by the train track.

For $6200 you can have my 18'er and go on Lake O whenever you want LOL. I don't think it's a bad boat but the number that came to my mind was $4500 as well. If you want a Lake O boat, buy a Lake O boat. These aluminiums do nicely on big water and small, don't limit yourself of fishing opportunities if you can avoid it.

pssst, don't waste your triangle.

Half an hour?!?! I just used the stick to smash the window.

yamaha 6hp 4-stroke vs. mecury 6hp 4- stroke.
SlowPoke replied to stan_133's topic in General Discussion
I would go with the Yamaha over the Mercury. The Merc is made by Tohatsu, which also makes Nissan. Same motor only Merc is priced higher. I can't say anything bad about the motor because I don't know much about it but the pricing scheme leaves a bad taste. The Yamaha's are terrific, never seen a bad one! In therory, a 2 cylinder will run smoother than a single (thumper as they used to be known). Single cylinders will often have more torque compared to twins of similer displacment. I think both motors are so small the differences might not be perceivable. If you're interested in a 5hp used Honda, PM me, I can put you in touch with someone. -Brian
