Cabela's in Scarborough ME or Dundee MI if you're looking for a road trip.

You should check the GVCW on that bike, it might not leave enough headroom for your tackle etc. Don't grow up too fast, put off stress and obligation as long as you can!!!

Wow, that's a pretty quick investigation and judgement.

In this day and age these types of rules are put in place through safety consultants working from a compendium of 'what ifs' and obscure precedents. An employee may have been traveling through the yard, struck an object or another employee and said a speck of dust obscured his vision on a windy day... or maybe he wasn't paying attention and used that as an excuse. The truth doesn't matter and we get to enjoy a new policy. In my line of work there are plenty of policies I have to roll my eyes about, some that I'm grateful for and a lot that I've ignored! I think a good team player is willing to bend a little to get the job done and a good company is willing to overlook the small stuff. To put some perspective on this, I've worked with numerous guys over the years that wouldn't pull a trailer if it had a marker light out. A service truck would have to be called in, the driver would collect his waiting time and the load would be delayed. To the letter of the law, he may be 'in the right' to refuse the assignment but all these incidents add up they find themselves out of work... "getting screwed by the company". It's a chicken/egg argument and all we can do is work within the terms of employment we accepted on being hired.

I'd be happy with bass that size!!!! I always look forward to your posts. It's never just a picture and a link, you always provide detailed information and tips. Keep 'em coming. -Brian

You're absolutely right. I routinely drive past the fresh flowers laid at the driveway of a former employer where a co-worker lost his life. I firmly believe he'd be with us today had the company not been shopping roof repair quotes for months on end. We've all worked with people that abuse the protections in place to suit their agenda and for employers that are willing to spend a dollar to save a dime. Its not a perfect world and my comments were just an insight to the three accounts laid out by the original poster.

I have a different take on this... I suspect the three guys involved were problematic and less than ideal employees. The company seized the opportunity to rid themselves of these guys when they felt they had justifiable reasons to do so. I wouldn't be surprised if this same company has gone out of their way or are sympathetic to employees that put in a good day's work and are assets to the company despite injuries, addictions or other personal issues. Workers rights and safety regulations are often taken advantage of by the slackers and they can dig their own graves. Companies are often handcuffed by labour standards or bargaining agreements to effectively do anything about it; it seems they found enough cause in these three cases. For 18 years I worked for a company that would take a bullet for some employees and would leave others to twist in the wind. I always felt they had my back unless I gave them a damn good reason not to.

When I read Barb Underhill my first thought was... cool, they finally signed someone with proper levels of pugnacity, testosterone, truculence and belligerence. Only to be let down again.

Just because you can carry two more bags of groceries in your Liberty doesn't quite elevate it to truck status. Is there perhaps some short comings in your life that you are compensating for?

3/4" Pressure treated is over 100lbs (5/8" is 96lbs) 3/4" Marine is 60-70lbs (similar to reg plywood 20-25lbs/ 1/4" ply)

What are you waiting for? You've been slacking on this project for hours now! Don't forget to post some pictures.

My turn to rant, taxable benefit issue
SlowPoke replied to lookinforwalleye's topic in General Discussion
There's something wrong with this situation and you only have to remove the terminology to figure it out. You pump your gas into your car. You reach into your pocket and pull out $50 of AFTER TAX cash to pay for it. You submit the receipt for your expense and you are TAXED again. Not cool. I would suggest your company is not reimbursing you properly but I'm not an accountant. That's why I pay one and he earns every penny and then some. A little off topic but I would suggest anyone that files anything remotely different from a basic tax return is short changing themselves by not using an accountant. -
I paid about the same for 3/4 marine ply a few years ago; if you got fleeced, so did I. Marine ply uses better glue, less fillers and has virtually no voids between the plys. You can also enjoy about a 50% weight saving over pressure treated plywood. Money well spent. I can't stress enough, check your foam. Use a drywall saw (keyhole saw) and cut a piece out and see if it floats in the tub. I'm betting it won't. If you replace your saturated foam with new, it will be safer and the weight savings will feel like you just bought a new boat. Been there!
-
Another vote for marine ply. Be prepared to do the entire floor. What seems solid may only be supported from the foam below. While you're in there, check to see if your foam is saturated. I refurbed an 87 Starcraft and my transom was fine but everything else was soaked. Don't use 6mil under the floor, it will only hold moisture causing it to rot sooner.

Welcome staffman, glad to have you here. I don't think you'll have trouble finding some fishing partners around here!
-
Close enough to a turkey lol
-
I'm with you on that! 160 lts in the truck + 230 lts in the boat and I can't wait!!!
-
Kelvin, I hope you're doing okay. If you ever want to get away for a few hours; I'll pick you up, drop the boat in at Jordan and drive around in circles to avoid the fish.

In Canada you are permitted to pound the snot out of someone provided you're wearing skates. You might take a little flack however should you be wearing a visor during the assault.

I don't know the conditions you were in so I'm not defending the truck drivers in your case. As a driver, I have to remind myself before getting frustrated that cars don't have the height and weight advantage of a truck. What seems like a light dusting to us in a truck is often a blinding snow storm to those in passenger vehicles affected by wheel spray and blowing snow from other motorists. I've often arrived at my terminal and jumped into my car thinking 'it wasn't this bad 15 minutes ago'. And I drive a 4WD Suburban! We have a job to do and most of us conduct ourselves in a safe manner. On a snowy night I'll often encounter a very slow motorist weaving about where they think the middle lane 'might' be while I can see the lines through the snow. My initial reaction is 'pick a lane you ....' and then I consider their vantage point and inability to see what I can see. I'll do my part by passing when it is safe to do so, leaving as much room as I can and with steady acceleration. I don't want to spend all day passing because it can make a motorist weary but I don't want to blow their doors off and spook them either. My hope is that they will use my path to show them where the road is but I have this funny feeling they're telling everybody in the car with them 'look at that maniac!'. Driving in fog and rain is often easier in a truck as well. We're less prone to spray and can often see over the fog or at the very least, it's thinner. With that said, trucks aren't sports cars. Even if we can eventually giddy up and go, it doesn't mean we can stop with any greater efficiency in inclement weather. We merely have the advantage of seeing a little more. In response to the accident video; I've seen that happen possibly twenty times but never with such an outcome. Over the years I've had two cars slide across my bow from oncoming traffic. I've been lucky on both accounts that I've had time to react. I'm very thankful for divided highways and median walls we have in Ontario; it may have been a trip to the body shop instead of the morgue in this incident.

And so does E-TEC lol I guess it boils down to "what colour do you want?" Back to your point about "exclusive"; it really bothers me when big chain stores will have an "Exclusive to XXXXXXX" item. Simply a scheme to avoid price matching. Common with lawn mowers, snow blowers etc.

Those that have done it are trying to forget how much they spent!

I know the feeling. I refurb'ed my 18'er, fully gutted with new foam and added aluminium bracing with an aluminium floor/vinyl. It's better than new but doesn't have the shine. It's a shame that I did all that work only to be selling it now but at least I know it was done right and will never need doing again. At least you were wise enough to pay someone else; I missed a LOT of fishing time doing it myself. It looks great and you will enjoy it for many more years.

Where's The Best Place Locally to Buy A Bowmount?
SlowPoke replied to solopaddler's topic in General Discussion
Not sure... late last season I suppose. A slight change in the remote and more memory for spot locks and tracks. -
Even if it isn't in plain sight, you can bet the manufacturer made the $horte$t run po$$ible from the filler cap to the tank. That should put you in the right ballpark.
