Is Balsam safer in the winter? The spot I was thinking in Sturgeon isnt near Fenelon Falls, nor is it near the river. Its in the main lake closer to the east end of shore.
Thanks.,....Someone made a thread about Sturgeon being frozen and I asked how to tell if its safe and that turned into me dying, lol only on OFC. Why not post ice safety tips instead.
Well that's why I want to see if anyone is going out. And you cant fish the river, its a fish sanctuary, need to be on the lake.
I wouldnt go out if it wasnt safe, thats for sure.
I'm looking to go out on sturgeon this year for ice. What's the best way to tell of the ice is safe? If the weather stays like this I want to go out there around Dec 27 or 28
Thats pretty neat those devices can do that. Which is better the raymarine or the sonarphone? You just have to keep paying for navionics + every year Id imagine.
Id think the cost is more than $300 though, especially if you need to buy an Ipad. It looks like that Raymarine is $300 on its own, then you gotta buy Navonics and a Ipad.

This is the guy I bought my bearings off of. I looked into it and I believe all orange seal ceramic bearings are made by the same company, BOCA just buys them and rebrands it and sells for more.
That link above is 5 bearings for $32 US.
How is that for water retention? I was between that and PP.
The guy at BassPro just said he uses straight mono (trilene sensation) on all his ice fishing rods to avoid line freezeup all together.
Lake Scugog by the causeway is fish sanctuary from Nov 16th to Dec 31st. The same goes for the Scugog river which runs between Lindsay and Lake Sturgeon. Pigeon River is also the same. There is a lot of fish sanctuary's in zone 17 from Nov 16th to Dec 31st.
Just prefer catch and release so there's fish for the next guy, that's all. I'm allowed an opinion as are you, no need to be abrasive it's a friendly forum.
Looking at spooling up some reels for the winter. Wondering if people go straight fluoro, or braid with fluoro leader. Also what brand people prefer? Trilene, suffix?
Somewhat unrelated. But I did a full cleaning on the reel. When I was putting back together there's a space between part 2480 and 2478. It seems the anti reverse stops that metal gear from going lower to touch the plastic gear at the bottom. I was wondering if that's the way it should be. The reel seems to operate normal but I imagine that might have more to do with drag pressure.
If people vote Liberal for the next provincial election than people don't care or aren't paying attention to what's going on. I can't believe they were voted back in after starting a power plant and cancelling it and throwing away tons of tax payer money.
