  1. I did, returned it. I actually bought a more expensive reel (lol). I bought the Shimano Cardiff.
  2. Could the Abu Orra 2 Winch not work for this application? I dont quite understand the difference between these baitcasters. The Ambassaduer SX is one heavy model.
  3. Seems sort of make shift for a $100 reel. I might take them back and find something that fits better.
  4. So I recently purchased a BPS rod 7'6" H with an ambassaduer reel for musky fishing. Well actually I bought two. Anyways, the reel doesnt fit the rod, I have the rod clamp tightened as much as it goes and the reel still pops out. Is there a work around for this or is it just not meant to be. I held it together with zip ties, but it still is not stable. edit, should mention its the ambassaduer SX model, the red one. It seems the metal on the bottom of the reel isnt long enough to fit the rod clasp.
  5. Thanks guys but I took it to the local marina in Lindsay. It's the mechanic on trent if anyone's had experience there . To my best knowledge it's a 1970s Johnson. And I can't start the motor anymore as I broke the spring inside the starter trying to start it so many times ha.
  6. Bought a new tank and new line. Engin did the same thing. Got it to idle nicely. Took it out on the lake and it died within 100 yards of starting. Also replaced the spark plugs. I broke down and took it a marina. I don't what I'm doing and it's not a simple fix it seems. Not to mentiom a new tank and line was over $100. I have a fear that by the time it's done at the marina I shoukd have bought a brand new motor as the cost will be the same.
  7. Well aside from my boat motor dieing today's fishing was amazing. Boated 4 muskies. Two of them caught on bass gear fishing for bass with senkos. Muskies were aggressive today. One was pulled in on 20lb line with an 8lb leader and spinning gear. Although it got a bit annoying as we were trying to fish for bass and Muskies kept eating my lures and line. Lost 3 lures from Muskies today.
  8. The ball does not look sucked in. It's an old metal one. I've used seafoam before on small engines but they had intakes to put the seafoam in like a lawn mower you remove the air intake and pour the seafoam to clear the carb. How do I do that with this engine? There's no air filter to remove to pour seafoam into to clean the carb. Unless you mean just adding it to the fuel.
  9. I used self etching primer. And it's tremclad rust paint. Rolled on not spray. Two coats.
  10. Ok I'll be honest. I know next to nothing about outboards. Where is the exhaust on an out board. The motor was going into idle, but now it is not starting. I may have flooded it with gas trying to get it to start. When you say fuel line do you mean exterior fuel line from tank to motor or interior one The spark plugs are new from previous owner. And they look good, but that's just a visual inspection. I could buy new ones I'm sure from can dian tire for little cost?
  11. So I bought an old 70s johnson off kijij and it was running fine on the first day but now the motor dies in gear. It will start and idle but once in gear and moving it dies. The boat is in lindsay so if anyone lives in lindsay and can help I'd be happy to feed you offer beer etc. My wife's ready to kill me about this lol
  12. Rivetted? The boat floats before painting. Thanks for the replies guys. Ill add more, I have a name coming for it and the motor mounting.
  13. What I started with is an old Peterborough 12' aluminum boat, rotted out transom and no motor. Painted the inside light grey and green. Added new transom on both inside and outside. Exterior was painted green and dark grey on the bottom I have bought a motor and trolling motor for it, Ill add more pictures when the entire setup is in the water.
  14. Fishing Saturday to Tuesday on Sturgeon, should be good!!!
  15. Well I bought two...and two lures hahaha. one for me one for my wife.
  16. Well pulled the trigger today. Got a 7'6" heavy action with an Abu Garcia ambassadeur 5:1. Spooled with 80lb braid.
  17. There would be two of us, could you pm me the cost and details. Thanks.
  18. Budget is entry level. Hence the bass pro brand. I see the st Croix stuff is $300 and up. And then you need the reel. I don't want to spend $500 and I'm sure a musky setup can be bought for much less
  19. Did pretty good last weekend on Sturgeon. 3 Muskies, 1 walleye (not fishing for them), and a bunch of LMB and 1 SMB.
  20. Inline spinner or safety pin spinner. Any recommendations on style/color/size?
  21. both casting and trolling. I believe when they give line specs its for mono/fluoro, so the braid specs would be higher.
  22. Looking to buy a rod. Wondering what specs are preferred. Heavy or X heavy. What length. Basspro makes a musky rod 7'6" heavy action fast action 2oz-10oz lures up to 40lb line.
  23. Any lures you guys like that dont run deep in the water? The lures I currently have run 4-9 feet. Anything that runs closer to 3 or 3 feet but still has a good size to it
  24. Just wondering if you guys have any tips with trolling musky lures and not getting them stuck in the weeds. I have a Rapala super shad and its running depth is 5-9 feet, but I find trolling Sturgeon channel the lure works really well, but it gets bogged down with weeds really fast.
  25. thanks for the awesome replies guys, really helpful. Its always been a crapshoot when I decide to throw spinnerbaits or crankbaits or soft plastics.
