  1. Ill start with my tall fish tale. I was fishing Lake Sturgeon for opening bass this past weekend. Fishing the river section and going through the weeds. I hit a bite and set the hook. The second after I set the hook it feels like i've caught a log, did I snag? nope its still reeling in but its heavy whatever it is. I thought I caught a monster bass (was using T-rig senko). I keep reeling and get it near the boat, the second I can see what Ive caught my heart explodes. Its a musky on the line. My first thought, why one earth did a musky eat my senko, and secondly how has it not broken my line yet. Well I keep fighting the fish and try and tire it out because Im fishing bass so no net and no way to really get this musky in the boat. I fish it out for a bit, and get it right beside the boat and staring right at it, its big, and I have no idea how Im getting it out of the water. It releases at the side of the boat and my heart sighs, I've lost the musky. But my rod is still bent.....there's a bass on the line! I've caught a large mouth bass which got eaten by a musky on the reel in!. The large mouth is chewed up, but still alive. I let it go and it swims away. I guess part two of my thread is I've never fished for musky before, and seeing one was a massive thrill. I wouldnt mind trying my hand at fishing for some, but I have no idea where to start with lures. I was hoping the minds of OFC could lead some advice for musky lures in the kawarthas. Ive seen a few threads here with massive muskies caught. Im looking for some basic starting points for musky lures. Swimbaits? Spinnerig? Cheers.
  2. I went on Saturday and the place was slammed. Every booth selling products was so full you could barely move. It looked to me like booths selling products (lures, etc) were selling lots and were very busy. This was miles better than the fishing show, not sure why they have a fishing show in February and Sportsman in March, the sportsman had way more fishing stuff than the actual fishing show. I felt like the fishing show was a waste of money, I felt like the sportsman I got my moneys worth.
  3. I'm looking for a lodge for me and the wife to spend about 5 days in. Trying to find somewhere a bit on the nicer end of things (not to "roughing it"). This lodge looks nice and offers nice boats at a decent rate for all. I haven't really found to much info on the Marten River itself for fishing.
  4. I caught a blue walleye this winter on Nippising, was really cool to see. I have a picture, but not the greatest, doesnt show how blue it was. It was really neat to see in person, very different color than normal.
  5. Great video. The ice at the beginning looked paper thin. It definitely was a warm winter for any ice. Pulled in some good size fish in that video.
  6. near Spanish River, just north of it, chain of lakes. About a 5 hour drive from GTA.
  7. Looking at booking a fishing trip this summer, came across this in my searches. The reviews online look positive, wondering if anyone has first hand feedback here.
  8. Okay...Ive edited the first post, this really isnt helpful and not why I joined this forum. Like i said, simply saying posting specific coordinates is not allowed here would have been fine.
  9. Not one of these below was helpful.....actually everyone was pretty unfriendly and rude. I didn't realize asking a specific spot on a lake I'm new to was a kiss of death. Seems like an unfriendly bunch on this board, and everyone continually piling on, I never replied to this thread once i saw what was happening. Also if you were referring to my previous thread and not saying thank you....you missed post #17..... None of this is helpful in anyway...Just say "asking for specific spots is a faux pas, or not really looked upon kindly here" would have sufficed more than any of this.
  10. They could PM me, they dont have to post it here. Im looking to go fishing soon, and the only thing open would be Pike and sunfish.
  11. No need for this anymore, was looking for advice not a lynching.
  12. Sad to hear. My in-laws just built a place on Sturgeon last year. They`re both in their early 60`s now, but are busy people and hardly have time to enjoy it lol. We end up having the most fun up there with the trails and the water (and Lindsay GC aint bad either).
  13. its 12*c outside? I didnt think Simcoe even got cold enough in the depth of winter to drive on it
  14. Thanks guys! Hopefully can make that happen come season
  15. Definitely. would love to get out with someone that knows the lake well. And has a proper fishing boat lol. Love catching walleyes as well.
  16. I cant believe they were re-voted after the gas plant scandal, Its as if people either dont care or dont pay attention.
  17. Somewhat unrelated but maybe helpful: I got stuck out on Sturgeon in huge waves before a nasty storm rolled in. We were at the north end of Sturgeon and needed to head all the way back to the river. The waves were going directly west to east, and we needed to go south. My in-laws have an old boat not meant for fish with a 50 on it. The boat can go fast and gets on plane (I never realized it was possible for a boat NOT to get on plane). Anyways, I tried to boat back on plane (probably 75% throttle), and it was scary as hell bouncing all over the waves, it was definitely not safe trying to ride the tops of the waves bouncing from side to side. I ended up lowering the throttle to like 25% and driving on an angle in sort of the wrong direction zig zagging my way back riding the waves. It wasnt safe to ride the top of the waves with the amount of wind and the size of the waves. I get what everyones saying in this thread about having power, but I feel like no matter the boat or the power, some storms you gotta go slow and ride the waves.
  18. Hey everyone, new member here thought i'd get the ball rolling. I mainly shore fish the Sturgeon river (where my in-laws have a place on the waterfront). We sometimes go out in the boat, but the boat they have isnt meant for fishing and the times we have gone out the water is usually pretty rough, and the boat they have is definitely not meant for rough water, it can get pretty scary out there in this tiny boat from the 70s. Anyways Im always looking for new good shore spots aside from their dock. I have gone to the old railroad bridge north of Ken Reid park to fish but havent really had any luck in that section. Ive also driven up to Long Beach to fish off the dock, but it felt like we werent supposed to be there, and we caught nothing. ive looked into getting my own boat, but the Mrs isnt a fan of that investment
