  1. I put one of these on my Shorelander trailer for my Legend boat and so far it works well: Fulton Swing Hitch Kit They're in Milton and it cost around $100.00 or so including delivery. I used a sawsall and the bolts provided. Peter P.S: Don't forget to remove the wires before you cut!
  2. I'm 47 years old, a pilot for Air Canada and fly a Boeing 777. Loved airplanes since I can remember and started flying when I was 17 not to mention Air Cadets before that. Now, flying is a job, fishing is my passion! Peter
  3. Hey Guys, I must admit that when I first joined earlier this year, I just watched like a new kid on the block. A bit shy to engage I guess. I didn't even realize that I should've formally introduced myself. I now find myself visiting the site often and have jumped in now and then when I thought I could contribute something valuable. My lurking in the background was simply my way of being polite and respectful to a bunch of people I would like to meet and make friends with. I didn't want to turn heads by barging into a conversation amongst those who don't know me, again, a bit shy. It's sure nice to be here and I hope that sheds some light on things from my side anyways. Cheers, Peter
  4. I always check the obvious. Did you prime the bulb? Even then, I find if you over prime, you can flood the engine. If you smell gas, try starting with the choke off and the throttle wide open until it catches. The next obvious one is the kill switch. Most have a lanyard attached that many of us don't use so make sure the switch is on. Lastly, some engines have a fuel shutoff valve so obviously that too should be on unless you have it connected to an onboard tank. Memart and I found that out the hard way. His kicker runs off his main tank with the engine fuel valve in the off position as it bypasses the built in tank, go figure. Cheers, Peter
  5. I love my 2003 188 Sportfish: The bench seat is folded down to make a rear casting deck here: Great engine too, (6 HP kicker behind):
  6. Hi Sinker, Thanks for the offer, I'd love to take you up on that. My boat will be in Snug Harbor at Lunge Haven again this season as we have a trailer at Nestle Inn down the road. Cheers, Peter
  7. Hi Nitro Man, Just me out this morning but after the cool fog lifted, I saw one boat further out towards the nuclear plant. When I headed back around 10:30, two more were heading out. I caught this one right at the outer cardinal buoy south of the Bluffs in 100 fow on a Dipsey Diver, Green Spin Doctor combo with a chrome meat rig and believe it or not, grocery store bought herring that I filet'd to size. I don't have a counter on that particular reel so I can't say how much line I had out but it was about half my 25lb spool. Like you say, an excellent launch despite the bird crap everywhere. I like weekdays when nobody's around and parking is free. Cheers, Peter
  8. Sorry guys, I haven't refined my fish identification skills yet! Rob, no I just went on my own because I wasn't sure if I was even going because they were calling for higher winds but as it turned out, it was a beautiful morning. It was hard to land because of all the gear and long leader - Rod up high and my new salmon net down low. We need to hook up and have our own derby! Peter
  9. Got him on a dipsey diver and green spin doctor meat rig baited with store bought herring. Now if I can only get BigCliff to show me how to catch fish on Sturgeon Lake sometime this summer... Peter
  10. Hi All, Went out early this morning with the warm weather approaching, what a great day. Caught this 11 pounder around 07:30:
  11. This may be an obvious question but if it has a portable tank, did you have the fuel vent wide open? If not, the engine would be struggling to draw the fuel out of the tank. If it's a fixed tank, check if that vent is obstructed. A simple thing to check before taking the carb apart? Peter
  12. I recently installed a swing hitch on my Shorelander trailer. I bought from the company listed below and am very happy with it. It was very affordable as well. I believe it was around $90.00 or close to it: Cerka Parts in Milton Ontario
  13. I was told by the Mercury mechanic at Bass Pro that the newer Optimax two strokes with oil injection do not actually inject the oil into the fuel prior to combustion. They somehow lubricate the engine in an alternative fashion. I have a four stroke so wasn't interested but it occured to me that if you bypass the oil injection system by simply mixing oil in the fuel, it may not be running the way it was designed to? This may not be the case with the 25hp Johnson but might be worth checkin into?
  14. If you connect two 12 Volt batteries in series rather than parallel, you'll generate 24 Volts. Series doubles the voltage, Parallel doubles the capacity. Make sure that in series, the batteries are identical. This may help: Example
  15. Hi All, Do you need a Toronto Port Authority permit to fish at Toronto Island and if so, what's involved? Also, where can you launch nearby? Is there one on the spit? East side preferred because I live north of town. Peter
  16. Hi all, Nice pix of the pike! A couple of questions: 1) Do you need to have a Toronto Harbour License if you want to fish there? 2) Where's the best place to launch? I'm in the north end of town so prefer to know if there's one on the Leslie Street Spit or on the east side. Thanks
  17. Hello Again Urbanangler, You may not realize it but you've already pegged it. They, not you are trying to "make up for the many years they didnt want to be in his life". Ironic that the one feeling the most guilt is actively involved. You say: "not getting some part of the ashes, which would at least give her the feeling he is there with us, omg, if there is a God, i question where?" He's been with you all along, by both your sides. You just have to believe that and when you do, the significance of the ashes will pale in comparison. You and your mother came to his life, the others are coming to his death. What is more important? So go on and follow your heart because God is already guiding you with your Step-Father by your side, you just don't know it yet. You need not question where God is just believe that you are where he needs you right now. Stay Strong! Peter
  18. Hello Urbanangler, My sincere condolences to you and your Mom. What great maturity you show by coming here and sharing this with your colleagues and for that you should be proud. Remember that funerals are for the living and not those that have passed. There must be tremendous guilt and a sense of obligation on the part of his brother. Think of it. All those years have past and now for him, it's too late. Arranging a funeral is his way of making it right and clearing his own conscience. You and your Mom on the other hand, have no skeletons in the closet and may live on with the knowledge that you were always by his side right to the end. For that, you will sleep at night and hold your head high with pride. In my very humble opinion (and I mean this with all sincerety and no malice intent), it doesn't matter who arranges this funeral, where it is nor where he is ultimately interned. What matters is the honour you bestowed upon him in life. Believe me when I say, his brother has a different heartache than you and your Mom. With all due respect, your duty now is to be brave and show strength by standing by your mother and helping her through this. Talk to her, support her and answer to her needs. Always remember that how we repond in the face of adversity is what ultimately defines us as people. Good Luck Pal, we'll be thinkin' bout ya! Peter
  19. Hi PickerelHunter, I'm interested in the trailer park you're in. Ours is off of sturgeon lake but we're always looking for others so I'd appreciate any info on yours and whether you like the place? Thanks, Peter
  20. We just renewed ours for prime minus .80% open for five years with Scotiabank Yonge north of Major Mack. Able to lock in anytime should the rates take off but no cap. Cousin's also a broker and said that this was the best she could get anywhere as well. Good luck!
  21. Hello Fisher, Here is a link to download a Minn Kota repair manual I found on line a while back. I posted it on a website called "Sendspace" as it's 8.2mb and will be available for 7 days, scroll to the bottom and look for the flashing red arrow: Minn Kota Repair Manual Download I don't know if you're inspired to troubleshoot it yourself but this should help if you are so inclined, good luck!
  22. I bought one from these guys once and was very happy with it: Cradle Ride Peter
  23. Dear Wayne, Being new to the board, I obviously don't know you but I see from Jen's website that she's in Richmond Hill / Vaughan and you are out of town. My family and I live within walking distance from York Central Hospital in Richmond Hill and if the need ever arises, you are welcome in my home. In your word's: "I was brought up to be a giver.. not a taker.." May we all live our lives that way... Peter
  24. Thanks For the Info Big Cliff, You may recall that I mentioned earlier I had a slip there last summer but found the general area extremely weedy despite them cutting it. I was tucked in beside that old houseboat so it made docking a challenge and always fouled up my prop with weeds. Maybe it was just a bad year? The dead carp didn't help much either The owners are wonderful and I would go back there in heartbeat if there were new slips and no weeds. I'd appreciate if you could advise of any updates. If you're talking to Rob there, tell him Peter the pilot may want a slip again this year! I look forward to meeting you there. Cheers, Peter
