  1. Another easy one to miss is to confirm the vent is open?
  2. On my 115 4 stroke Merc, I noticed the same thing after being in shallow muddy or mucky water. On mine, I can attach a garden hose directly where the tell tale stream comes out to back flush it and after doing that, it worked fine. Failing that, I would change the impeller because you should always have a good stream coming out at any setting. Alarms only go off when you're close to catastrophic failure so I wouldn't rely on that alone. Good luck, Peter
  3. Wayne, I assume since you have both VHF licences, the aeronautical one doesn't apply to marine. Is there much more to know about the marine licence? Cheers, Peter
  4. When mine started acting up, I just bought one of these remote control systems and it works great. No wires to fiddle with and you can buy extra brackets for all your rods. I keep the foot pedal as a backup now. Minn Kota Co-Pilot
  5. Do you think anybody would notice if you rigged a canoe for me too?:
  6. Do you need a co-pilot with an instrument rating by any chance?
  7. YUK! I thought it was just a little fender bender but didn't realize he flipped her over. I heard he just got caught up in the mud or grass with minor damage. Heartbreaking indeed after all that work! Peter
  8. Thanks Wayne, I'll give them a try. Have you fixed Reid's plane yet? Peter
  9. Hi All, Well with the thunderstorms this morning, I guess not many of us are out fishing. We spend our summer at our trailer on Sturgeon Lake and my 11 year old son would like to sign up for basketball or soccer somewhere. Does anybody know if there are house leagues in the Lindsay area or not too far of a drive away? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Cheers, Peter
  10. Sorry about that, I misread your post. If the car is already here, the importer would've had to clear title at the border upon exiting the US prior to entering Canada. 7 days notice is given to US Customs, they search the title and must stamp it before the vehicle is accepted into Canada. In a nutshell, if it can be plated in Canada, all the criteria have been met. Carfax will advise you if it has been in an accident or not and some suggest you do your own independantly. It's a nominal cost and probably worth it. I believe all you need is the serial number of the vehicle. Peter
  11. Hi Flex Rod, I imported my Chevy Suburban a couple of years ago and everything you need to know is found on this website: Registrar Of Imported Vehicles They are the sole agency for dealing with imported vehicles and explain in detail the requirements. Cheers, Peter
  12. Hi Everybody, I've been following this thread all along and decided to do some checking myself. I called the MTO and they had to put me through to an enforcement officer and from that I learned the following: First of all, I have a Chevy Suburban 2500 (3/4 ton) with a 3900kg GVW towing my 20' Legend Sportfish boat. According to this thread, I'm way over the 4500kg limit, I just don't know my boat weight and the stamp on the tongue (3500lbs/1591kg) is not what they go by. He wants actual weight rubber to pavement which he determines himself with pad scales. According to the same website quoted before: http://www.mto.gov.on.ca/english/trucks/re...ns/annual.shtml It states: "Truck" includes, but is not limited to: a.truck tractors, straight trucks, pickup trucks, curb side/cube vans, business use trade vans/panel trucks, and b.passenger vans and two and four wheel drive sport utility vehicles while being used to transport cargo, other than personal effects, with one or more of the vehicle's rear seats removed. This applies regardless of how the vehicle is plated, e.g., car, truck or farm plated. He explained that the SUV's are exempt because of the caviat "while being used to transport cargo, other than personal effects, with one or more of the vehicle's rear seats removed." The pickup trucks do not have this caviat so are subject to scrutiny. I guess this precludes hauling a bunch of appliances, furniture and a boat trailer which is less likely in an SUV? Second, according to this website: http://www.mto.gov.on.ca/english/trucks/re.../trailers.shtml He said that the actual trailer weight must exceed the 2800kgs in order for it to be included in the total weight of both the vehicle and trailer. Bottom Line: -Know your weights and keep them below 4500kgs for the truck but more importantly, the trailer below 2800kgs. He said that he'll still weigh you but at least you know you're below. -SUV's are not targeted unless the seats are removed and replaced with non personal cargo. -Pick ups are a target if their actual or GVW exceeds 4500kg. A 3/4 ton dually for example comes in at around 5500kgs so it automatically requires the sticker if towing. -Regular single wheel pick ups could be pulled over and weighed for compliance. -Having your rig weighed means nothing to him as that is changeable day to day. It's only a guideline for your benefit. Clear as mud now? Sorry for the long winded response but I thought it may help everyone out especially the SUV owners. Make sure and inquire about your own setup. Cheers, Peter
  13. Here are a couple of links for your consideration: Foreign Affairs Canada Public Health Agency Of Canada In addition, there seems to be more and more stories of tourists being detained by Mexican Police for extensive periods of time awaiting court hearings etc. Many of these were results of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. There is a big crackdown on the drug cartel especially in northern Mexico which has reeked havoc in the country. The Canadian Government (like the U.S.) is typically powerless to assist so you're on your own. I believe the major airlines are offering a change of destination without penalty while this swine flu is around. There are many alternatives in the Caribbean as well so it may be wise to avoid a hotspot until things cool down. Most sun destinations have an unwritten rule where tourists are somewhat protected, Cuba being a good example. Mexico would be the opposite in my opinion (for all it's worth). Best of luck! Peter
  14. I assume since you're on your way from Red Lake, you'll be passing through Thunder Bay? At the risk of steering you toward the competition, I looked on the Westjet website and you can get a fare from Thunder Bay to Toronto for $165.00 + $32.05 tax = $197.05: Thunder Bay, ON (YQT) to Toronto, ON (YYZ) Price Depart Arrive Flight # Duration $165.00 CAD Seat Sale Fare 06:30(YQT) 08:05(YYZ) WS 234 1hr 35min 1 seats remaining at this price Westjet Only Air Canada Jazz flies from the Soo. I could pick you up from the airport here in Toronto and drive you where you need to go. Hope this helps, Peter
  15. I don't think you can order via the website as it appears to be a catalog only. I ordered mine over the phone using the numbers they have posted. They're in Milton so I'm sure you could pick it up. Peter
  16. Hi Fishinggeek, I modified my trailer myself using the fold away hinge kit I bought from this supplier in Milton: Cerka - Supplier of Fulton Fold Away Hinge Kit Installation Instructions You'll see that you can either purchase the entire coupler or just the hinge as I did. After removing the electrical wiring, I cut off the tongue with a sawsall, drilled the holes, installed and torqued it with little effort. I then painted it with Tremclad to match the trailer I think it cost about $100.00 including delivery. Make sure you order the correct channel size. Cheers, Peter
  17. Hi Cliff, I have a 5000 watt Coleman generator and a smaller 1000 watt Honda. The large one is loud but gets the job done. You're welcome to borrow them both if this thing lasts much longer and I'll even drive it up to you. Cheers, Peter
  18. Happy Holidays All, The wife bought me a Humminbird 747C Fishfinder for Christmas and it says you can input your handheld GPS to it. I have a Lowrance Ifinder H20C but the only NMEA cable available is a 9 pin PC connection. Does anybody know how to interconnect these or if it is at all possible so the Humminbird can display GPS info? BPS wasn't much help so I was wondering whether to exchange it for a different unit that is compatable. Thanks, Peter
  19. Hi Leechman, Just a little Rush trivia if you're a Lifeson fan. In the early eighties, I was working as a dispatcher and learning to fly at Buttonville Airport in Markham Ont. and Alex was also learning to fly so I got to know him fairly well. The song "YYZ" was inspired by the morse code for the same; Y = -.-- and Z = --.. In those days, we used to have to positively identify the radio beacons or in this case, the Toronto VOR (YYZ VOR) by audio transmision. (Now our instruments are digitally identified). While Alex was airborne during a lesson getting his instrument rating, he was inspired by this identifier as the introduction beat to the song "YYZ": _ . _ _ _ . _ _ _ _ . . Next time you listen to the song you'll see what I mean. This would have been around the time "Permanent Waves" came out. If I remember correctly, he mentions his instructor on the next album "Moving Pictures" where "YYZ" first appeared. I met Geddy a few times but he didn't care for flying. Alex was a wonderfully friendly guy and by the way, that's just his show name... Peter
  20. Hi Everyone, I hope you're all having a great summer. I was asked to repost this so feel free to download it if you need it. The link will be valid for 7 days: Minn Kota Repair Manual Cheers from Tokyo, Peter
  21. Okay man, I'll see what's there and if I find anything, I'll call ya when I get back... Peter
  22. You're right on about Canada being a great country. Happy Canada Day everyone from Hong Kong! Can't wait to come home tomorrow and go fishing in clean water. You should see the colour of the water they fish in here. Peter
  23. I'm going to see a place today called Triton Fishing and Tackle here in Hong Kong just before our departure home so I'll let ya know. Is there anything you want in particular if I find some good deals? Peter
  24. Hey Bro, Nice going! Again on the Dipsey's eh? Go figure, all that money for downriggers and the divers seem to produce more. Hopefully we'll get together again during the derby. I'm jealous 'cause I'm on a layover in Hong Kong right now and can't go fishin'. Peter
