  1. I use 40 lb PP on my heavy bass stick. You know how getting stuck in a stem of a lillypad is usually an issue.... well with PP you can pull up the whole patch and then some. Seriously strong stuff, and the vision factor isnt really a problem especially when fishing cover.
  2. Please come to Oshawa, and catch every sucker you can see. Net them for all I care. ...waste of good roe
  3. Ill be fishing a VERY well known trib, and I wont see a sole all day. Thats because theres a section with no road access for 4 km in either direction, and I hike right into the middle every opener. Its great!
  4. as a season ticket holder for nine years with the Oshawa Generals, im sad to say that we got beat. But at least we were outmatched by a better team. Good luck to the bulls!
  5. Last week, the GOLF magazine came in the Toronto Star. Guess who was on the cover? None other man Mats Sundin himself. Irony?
  6. I stayed at a resort in Uclulet, on Vancouver island. One night while sitting out on the deck a bald eagle soared just meters about my head and landed in a nest we had thought was abandoned. I have some really cool pictures of the mother eagle and the small ones learning to fly. Ill see if i can dig them up.
  7. Ive been switching through them, started with vanish and the first few batches were awesome, then it went to hell in a handbasket. Tried lots of them but now I just tied up 20 leaders of 4 and 6 pound vanish so called "improved". Well see how it works when the tribs calm down.
  8. Thanks CC, Ive been trout fishin since a was knee high to a grasshopper but its always been with my dad, after the opener. Now that Im able to drive myself around its been a tough go last winter and this spring because fishing in the cold weather is (at least for me) a totally new sport. Wait till the water warms up and the season opens, then youll see some REAL results from me! haha, tightlines
  9. Its the same fish in both pictures... I know that quality is bad but it isnt THAT bad haha. steelhead my friend.
  10. edited to clean up thread
  11. Well, I got out for about 20 minutes today, and went 1/2! Reason I was only out for 20 minutes...well I fell in while landing this 29 inch BEAUTY and wasnt wearing waders. Here she is! sit...SIT...STAY! Yes, it is bleeding and did not have a chance to make it, the fish rolled about 20 times and I had to cut the line out of its gills. With the amount it was bleeding I knew there was no chance for it so I brought it home. Hes in the freezer for now, im not too sure what Im going to do with it but by leaving it we get into the whole "wasting a fish" regs business. I hate killing these fish but *hit happens. Picture is terrible quality, really is a pretty fish too.
  12. Well, got dark on me and im back. 5 guys in every pool, fish massacre everywhere, its a wonder theres any fish left in the damn river! Myself, I went 0/1 with a breakoff. Tried everything, jigs, pink worm, roe, fish came on the pinky. Lets see opener, so I can go north and fish in PEACE!
  13. Headin out tonite, ill be getting there as others are leaving for a last hour before sunset outing NICE FISH
  14. Got out steelheadin today, trib was REALLY high and REALLY muddy, watch out as banks are eroding, so dont be walking along the top of a high bank near the edge, or youll probably end up goin for a swim. Despite conditions I decided to fish for an hour or so anyways. Found it really difficult to get a good drift in the way the water was moving, but still managed to go 0-2. Lost the first fish 10 seconds in, actually managed to break me off ON THE SAME ROCK as the already landed PB from yesterday. (long story, see other report). The second one, a 2ish pound snotrocket was, get this, hooked in the tail. Yep, first time Ive ever seen a fish that small get snagged in the tail, usually its the salmon that swim into it. Anyways I gave it some slack and wiggled the rod and it popped out nicely for a long distance release. Still a good time out, even if conditions were less than perfect. I had only heard of one other fish being seen all day, so I must have been doing something right... (HUGE FREAKIN ROW BAGS) I promise start including pictures after I get a new camera, I drowned mine in january. tightlines, kemper
  15. Weird CC, I found the fish very agressive sunday evening, with myself going 1 for 3 and some others catching fish as well all in an hour (from about 6 30 till dark). Then I stepped in the creek sans boots, and called it a night! NICE BOWS CC! lol, sweet fishing
  16. I find the trick to catching in tribs in the spring is finding the water that isnt being fished, it may not be that perfect pool, but alot of the time it pays off. Last night I was fishing a less than perfect run and ended up going 1 for 3 with a personal best in only an hour!
  17. Sounds good, trout were on FIRE today. I went 1/3 (see report) and saw lots of active fish flipping and flopping around
  18. Thanks guys, wish me luck as I will be searching for the beast's best friends all week!
  19. The perfect drift... The water was a tinted green, conditions just right. I had the whole pool to myself with anglers all around in other holes. The drift was slow, right in the sweet spot and I knew this was the one. Float goes down, and the hook is set, the fight is on. This was a battle never meant to be won, a massive fresh female steelhead against a mere mortal. Five minutes go by and after countless manouvers I get the fish to a spot where it could be landed by a fellow steel hunter. The fish is in his hands, and the unthinkable happens, a slippery rock seperates myself from my trophy! And my personal best (by far) is gone just like that. Theres my story for the day, thanks alot to the angler that helped me out, without you that fish would never have even been close to landed, and I dont blame you at all for the loss. In fact, I count it as a fish landed, although there was no picture taken it was in hands, a beautiful specimen of a trout it was. All in all, a great 1 hour of fishing, with me landing a personal best (albeit unmeasured) and losing a personal best brown. Hopefully the conditions are the same tomorrow, because I have a bone to pick with a large steelie!
  20. Lots of people pinnin' it. Too many for my liking actually, my 3 favourite pools were packed yesterday!
  21. Personally, I think that there is NO WAY you could argue that the planet isnt getting warmer, BUT I also think that alot (if not all) of it is caused by natural changes in climate. Everyone gets all uptight about what is going to happen in 50 years or 100 years, but geuss what folks, weve only been around for a tiny percantage of the time the earth has been, and well be gone LONG before the earth is. To think that we can stop something that the earth is doing (in my opinion naturally) is just plain stupid. I know were not helping the planet at all, but I dont think that were causing it to get warmer 100%. Of course, we could argue about this till the cows come home...or the ice caps melt... or whatever.
  22. Yep, thats why I didnt go out today. From now on ill be fishing just before dark to get in 2 or so hours, avoiding the crowds untill opener when I fish water that I have yet to see another person at.
  23. Speaking of reading issued manuals, have you read them lately? I know Ill be fishing for trout next week, just as I have been this week.
  24. I think theres a Canadian record Smallie in Simcoe or Erie, just waiting to grab a tube. I also agree with the NWT Lakers, but I belive that there has been a few caught already that were released by the angler and therefor couldnt be verified. 97 Pound salmon.... safe for now, but I bet theres a few out there that would beat it, and as for a 40 pound brown, well I dont know about that, although we have seen some HUGE browns in the last few years.
