  1. Oshawa is open right now, and with the warm weather coming it looks good long range. There are some alright numbers pushing through right now, but i can tell you right off that they will not be in the places you would expect. Been fishing oshawa since i was 5 with my dad, PM if you want some tips.
  2. Not a great game today, although it was cool to see tavares finally get his spot, and look what he did with it! Tavares was player of the game IMO, making plays all over the ice and was definatly the offensive catalyst. I have seasons tickets to the Oshawa Generals and its amazngn to watch that kid play every week, a seriously talented player. Why arent we doing as well as we should? I think its pretty simple, where are the hits? Canada plays best when were smashing the other team at every turn so theyre too scared to make that lead out pass or take the puck hard to the net. We need to crash the net more, get traffic in front and play the simple game, the Canadian way. GO CANADA GO
  3. Neoprenes work fine for me, just wear the underarmour pants underneath. I find that I do sweat sometimes, but it really doesnt bother me and as long as you wear something like underarmour youll stay warm.
  4. strange that ive never run into one this time of year? I really wish I had a good camera and not just the cell phone because thsi fish was a really cool colour, almost glowed blue. thanks all
  5. hahaha, ya he lived to swim another day...unlike the other 10 or so fish that I saw caught today/laying on the bank sans fillets...I hate seeing that!
  6. Went out today in search of the might steelhead, and decided that it was a perfect day to pop the cherry on my new and first ever float reel. Went to Duffins by 930 am with NO LUCK and everyone around was saying the same thing. Well, I guess ill hop back in the car and hit my home trib, and am I ever glad that I did. Landed my first ever fish on the pin, and what a surprise it was! Yes, almost in January and I still catch browns, but steelhead? no i long distance release those Here he is in all his glory! Now the thing about this 'brown' was that it was unlike any brown ive ever seen. Mouth was small and not hooked, colour was almost an irridescent blue and there was a different spotting pattern along the back. It is hard to tell from the picture but this fish looked more like an atlantic to me. Also, the tail was not square. It was a male fish. What do you guys think? I am being serious, but i also think that the whole debate is one that I may not have wished to bring back...
  7. Well, today was successful in terms of learning to use the reel, I think i did alright although i do need some work on casting distance. Im heading to some bigger water than im used to tomorrow, so well see how it goes. I missed one good fish today, set the hook forgetting I was wearing gloves and the spool slipped from my grip resulting in the crappeist hookset I have ever seen.
  8. Well, I finally went and did it. Today i walked into Gangons looking for a pack of steelhead hooks and some leader line, want walked out with a shiny new Float reel! Yes, the 50 bucks my grampa gave me in gift card for my favourite store served me very well and ill be on the river tomorrow morning testing her out! Its a bronze Raven Matrix, and looks like it will handle the steel quite well. Ill post pics tomorrow of the reel and the fish Im also posting this from my brand new laptop, santy sure was nice this year!
  9. My DREAM ice fishing trip involves all the ice melting, and me happening to have a boat handy...
  10. Amazing I WISH I could be doing that right now. Unfortunatly Id have more luck skating on the rivers in my area.
  11. Well my foot got wet playin pond hockey this weekend. Luckily the pond i play on is more of a whats his name and well, you couldnt really "fall through" if you tried. Moral of the story? Its not ice fishing time yet!
  12. Still working on some more bass pictures...stay tuned
  13. I have wondered the same thing myself, and I think that much of it is the prestige of the float reel and the quality they are built with. Id imagine all that custom machining comes at a price... That said, im working on getting a friend who just so happens to have access to the proper equiptment to build me a custom one. Stay tuned on how that goes...
  14. Glad to know it isnt only me. I plan on hitting Duffins later this weekend/early next week, well see how that goes...
  15. Alright sounds good. Just didnt want to go fishing april 2nd and remeber OH CRAP gotta go get a licence...
  16. Well, as its almost that time that I hate to think about...(when the water freezes and i just cant bring myself to knock a hole in it to fish) I thought Id throw up some pictures of this years fishing. There will be more to come, but my computer is not treating me very well at the moment. Also, I expect that from now till freeze up I may just have some success with steelies. The year started off with steelheading, as always. This was the first steelie that I got a pic of because it managed to tangle the line through the gills and was not going to make it so I brough him home. 90% of my steelheading trips are solo, so the pictures are limited... Then I hooked into a few more silver bullets later in march, with this guy being the biggest, but just wouldnt sit still for my camera phone... March was full of steelheading, but as usual, the pictures are lacking. Then trout opener came along and it was my personal favourite and best day on the water ever. Woke up at 4, on the river by 4:30 and went 13/18 before 8 30 AM. I only had my cell phone camera, which is useless in the dark so another angler took the pictures and my email, but unfortunatly I never recieved the pictures. Heres one that turned out, one of my longest steelies to date at 31 or 32". Its hard to tell the size, but look at the head in comparason to my reel... Moving along, a trip I took to a friends cottage in July, We hit smallies like this all day on a 20 foot deep Rocky drop off.. Same trip, and at 6 30 AM a surprise NAILED my bass spinnerbait.. back she goes... That was a great day on the water with even better fishin buddies. Next up is my annual trip to Buckhorn lake, specifically Scotsman Point Resort. Wasnt the best trip fishing wise, but still a great week with three bass over 18" in two nights. Heres the biggest of the week at 20 inches and 4.5 pounds... Theres a couple more bass pics from that week that I just cant seem to upload...but working on it. There were a few day trips, one resulting in a surprise musky from shore that I dont have pictures of because it tried to take my hand off when i was letting it catch some breath while fumbling for the camera... Next up, fall season. First drifting success: Brown Trout. and a big one at that, this guy was pushing ten pounds. then a few, and when I say a few I mean a few steelhead that werent photographed. So far this steelhead season in the fall has been a bust for me, but with the recent rain im thinking its about to get better. Last but not least another Big brown, but a female this time. All in all, it has been a great year fishing wise, and doing a report like this makes me wish that I took more pictures. I always seem to just throw them back and think "ill catch another."
  17. Hey, Ill be turning 18 this march and know that this season I will have tp buy a fishing licence. My question is, since my birthday happens to be during my favourite time for steelhead fishin, can I buy it in advance? Do you have to be 18 or can I get one right now? or in the new year? Id just like to get my hands on one in advance of when Ill actually need it, that way the time spent getting one in march, can be better put to use on the river...
  18. If someone were to catch a 65 inch musky, my best guess is that it would not survive the release process anyways, and even if it did its life is very limited. Id have to say it would be a game time decision.
  19. If you catch anything other than a cold let me know.East rivers have failed me all week long.
  20. I also went out this morning, and found my trib with perfect water conditions and no fish. again. for the third time this week. I really need to find a new creek...
  21. I second CCMTs motion. Although I did manage to lose two fish, due to hooking them in 1 foot wide runs of open water, with 10 feet of ice on either side....
  22. NICE. I went out today for steel, got to the trib at sun up to find.....3 inches of solid ice.
  23. That is true, and it has caused me to cancel my trip to waterloo for a university tour...but that means that the school has already been told I will be absent, and I can walk to the river!
  24. And its about time too! Look at this glorious percipitation! Steelhead are jumping for joy.... thoughts anyone?
  25. 17 years and 231 days. but im only 17 years and 231 days old. which is apparently not old enough to accept the prize...
