  1. epic! Ill be starting my first year of university next september, either at western or waterloo (im thinking western, as its a 4 minute walk from residence to the thames...)
  2. Find a river, a fast run and get the pin out!
  3. actually if you look its a brown because there are nine black spots on the gillplate, three and a quarter orange spots on the belly and the tail has 8 horzontal lines of brownish spots all with 9 spots in them. thanks guys! now we just need some water, I WANT SOME STEEL!
  4. Wonderful, actually. I was somewhat surprised because I have never eaten a brown, and this one was larger than any other trout that I have kept. If Im keeping a trout for the table it is usually 3-5 pounds. This was was closer to 9 -10. By the way, I tied up 200 roe bags in clear, red and my new favourite blue (yes, blue) today. Roe is MINT.
  5. Amazing. I can hardy find a pool that isnt dried up around here...
  6. Well, headed out for steel today at first light, and even after three days of on and off rain there is still no water in the creeks. I fished for an hour with nothing untill I decided id practice my long distance release on a nice male bow. Fishing heated up for about an hour after that with some small trout caught, but nothing worth taking a picture of. My float went down on a drift and FINALLY some weight on the other end of the line, but wait it doesnt feel like a bow. Nope, definatly not a bow but not heavy enough to be a salmon, what is it? A big FAT female brown. Exactly what I was looking for. Didnt put up much of a fight, but the roe sure looks good in my fridge. I was kinda surprised that she was still around and full of eggs, I usually dont get browns this far into november. Sorry about the crappy picture, cell phone camera and the fish would not sit still so shes pretty dirty. Looks like a good match for this guy, that I caught earlier this season.
  7. Thanks everyone, I have pictures of 5-6 other browns I caught today (they were on fire!) but theyre on my cell phone and at the moment im a little to lazy to turn them into multimedia messages and send them to my email... I REALLY need a digital camera.
  8. Hit an easter trib today with low expectations due to low and gin clear water. Well im glad I went anyways, it was a great day on the water! It started off with 3 or 4 smaller brown trout, and then in a run about 4 feet deep my float goes down and i set the hook into a 10 pound plus female steelhead. After quite the battle, which involved me chest deep in water removing the line from a tree while still fighting the fish he pulled drag 50 feet downstream into a beaver dam, and well you know what happens after that. After I stopped shaking long enough to tie a new lead on, I managed to hook into my PB brown, a hog a just shy of 30 inches! Hopefully Ill be back tomorrow with a report of getting that big hen that broke me off today. tightlines
  9. cold weather? SURE rain? PLEASE steel? BRING IT ON! ice? please no!
  10. awesome! the steelies are just starting to show up in my trib but not in any numbers yet and the water is way to low to fool them. Although I say this the day after a huge buck broke me off after I thought I was fighting a salmon untill i came out of the water and SNAP! I cant wait, late fall/winter steel is my favourite kind of fishing.
  11. I have come up with a master plan to pay for my fishing addiction. If i bet 1000 on every leafs game, im bound to be up money when they finish below .500...
  12. Good friends of mine have been renting there for a few years and I went up for a day this year with them. We nailed bass all day and even hit a surprise musky while bass fishing. The lake is full of ski's and bass, and walleye too if you know where to look. good luck!
  13. So I was right, see you out on the river DMASSE. Probably when its far too cold for any so called 'sane' people to be fishing, but no matter, more steel for us!
  14. So now we even attack people who post reports that are perfectly within the law? Ya, theres lots of people snaggin salmon this time of year, but to me it looks like DMASSE is NOT one of them. I believe I met DMASSE one day on the Oshawa in the middle of the winter fishing for steel and if he is who I think he is, its a great guy and one who really knows his stuff. Read the report and lay off if you dont like it, and if you dont like reading reports about september salmon THEN DONT READ THEM Thanks for the report DMASSE
  15. This thread is going to get locked up quick, but ill add my 0.2 cents anyways. When I was a little kid my dad took me salmon fishin in the river, and taught me exactly what NOT to do. I may go down to the river and catch 10 less salmon than someone else in a day, but thats for one simple reason. NO LINING OR SNAGGING. Now dont get me wrong, it happens accidentally because you have many big fish in a small area there is no way around it. Now that Im older and fish alone most of the time, I wont hit the rivers for salmon because there is just too many people snagging the fish. Legally, if its hooked in the mouth the fish is fine. So what is there to rant about? Ya, it might be lined, but who can tell because I and many others have caught lots of legit salmon in the river. Bring on late october browns and bows, drifting around the boots is never fun, but its well worth it when theres a chromer on your line!
  16. Thats a HOG. I would have thought it weighed more though, Ive only ever caught two salmon at 40 inches, one was 40 inches and 26 pounds and one was 44 inches and a touch under 30 pounds. NICE fish
  17. And here I was about to say that Stoney must be a great lake for musky, because I landed two Skis there this season while bass fishing, and NONE on buckhorn while FISHING FOR THEM. go figure. In order to catch musky, fish for bass?
  18. Not quite that time yet where I am, althought I lost one and landed a few residents last night. Its tough to drift through the salmon at this point...
  19. Yep, was drifting yesterday. There are some browns in and I think I even spotted a bow. My trick? Stay away from the pools with fifteen 20 pounds class salmon and 8 guys trying to snag them. I shoot for the trout, and smaller salmon. Its called fishing, not snagging!
  20. Thats definatly a respectable brown! This one was in the 8 pound range, and im still kicking myself for not being prepared. Its ok though, I had a little chat with the river and told mr. brown that i would be back tonight and not be so forgiving.
  21. Id also like to know. - says the kid that makes nine bucks an hour
  22. Haven't had the drift rod out in quite some time, but I had an hour to kill between dinner and heading to the girlfriend's so I decided to head down to the trib to try my luck with some salmon. Twenty minutes in im in a complete daydream while drifting a pool that is very clearly full of salmon, smart move eh? As im looking at the opposite bank i think to myself, self, you should probably look for your float. So I look for my float, hey, float, where are you!? This process takes aout 7-8 seconds to register in my dozed state, and it is the sight of a beautiful brown trout rocketing out of the water towards me with my roe in its yap that brings me back to reality. CRAP! So i reel in the slack like a madman, but I already knew this move was in vain and I was right as the brown threw my roe bag and dissapeared back into the depths. I thought it was a little early for browns myself, but if there is some in there ill be breakin out the 4 lb leaders and tiny hooks because id rather drift trout than salmon any day! Thought id share what NOT to do while drifting...
  23. FALSE. in fact my PB bass, trout, salmon and musky have all come later than that in the day.
