Honey Harbor or Simcoe for Pike and Bass
BillM replied to love2fishhave2work's topic in General Discussion
GBay is good, but you really need to know where you are going. I would bet you'd have better luck on Simcoe. -
I'm jealous! Atleast I wasn't the only one that didn't catch anything on Tuesday

Suck it up and take the test again. Having a meeting with the Supervisor is a waste of time... I wouldn't consider anyone with no driving experience a good driver.

I have some DCG clones, perhaps I'll break them out Friday morning on Gloucester and see if they work
-
So any pike caught on Balsam should be kept for dinner?
-
Weather was a huge factor today, if I knew it was going to be like this, I wouldn't have gone. The oldman really like his smallmouth bass fishing, so we compromise a bit Balsam has a lot of structure, we'll definitely be back.

Look like Tigers to me!

Well, if this sounds extremely similar to my French River musky report, it is!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lol Perhaps I am not destined to catch these fish, who knows.. A board member was nice enough to give me some spots to try out.. I found a nice weedline that dropped from 5ft into about 14-18ft of water. I worked this with TopRaiders, Suicks(weighted and unweighted) and some 8" jointed Believers. We worked a good 2km stretch without even a follow. Casting up onto the flat then back down the drop, from the flat casting out to the dropoff then back up to the flat. Parallel to the drop off, etc etc etc. We also found a nice midlake hump thanks to the chartplotter that went from about 20ft to 6ft with all kinds of nice scattered weedbeds.. Worked this from about 6am till 11am or so then the sun came out and the jetski's and pleasure boaters showed up. We abandoned the ski fishing and start hitting the shade and docks.. My dad missed a big largie when he fluked a cast right under neath a dock... One big slurp, 15seconds or so of a fight and it was gone... Hit a couple of smallmouths on Zara Spooks, but the weather wasn't very nice for fishing (no wind, blue skies, sunny as hell). We are going to hit Gloucester next weekend to give the mighty esox another go. I do have one spot where we had a follow from a big fish, going to hit that first thing in the morning with some Suicks and some Bulldawgs bouncing down the point into deep water.

misfish: You are right about some of the people down at the marina on the Barrie shoreline.. It's like a breeding ground for donkeyholes.
-
That guy is an idiot.. Almost seems like the jackass in the 50k bass boat that decided he had to zip by my dad and I within feet as we were fishing a flat near the channel out on Little lake on the weekend.. I was so close to tossing out my TopRaider and filling his prop with 80lb Power Pro.

Can anyone point me to the government launch on Balsam?

The only thing I want to boat tomorrow is the mighty esox -

Thanks man! -
Old man and I are going to hit Balsam tomorrow to see if I can catch my first ski of '08. I've heard there is a government launch real close to Balsam Lake Marina, but I don't have specific directions to it. If anyone could help out with some directions I'd appreciate it.

Weeds, that's awesome!!! I'll be out on Balsam tomorrow trying to get this musky monkey off my back

Wow, that thing is a *$%&ing monster!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Saw a lot of guys out on Little lake flipping the lily pads without much luck at all on Sat. Looks like you guys were doing something right!!!! Great report!

ccmt: Same issue we had when installing a bowmount on my dad's 15' Legend.. He made a small deck that fit into the V shaped part of the bow and mounted the motor just off to the left side of the light.. It's been working great so far. I'll see if I can dig up a pic, it's a very simple setup.

Rain, rain rain pretty much all day out on Little/Gloucester. Let up around 11am and we were pretty much done by then. I think there was either a bass tourney or there will be one and people were pre-fishing but man, 20+ bass boats ripping around on the lake. From about 6-11am we boated about 10 or so fish. My biggest was a 3lb largey, right in front of all the tournament guys driving through the channel Also had a miss on a perch coloured Suick on our way back, just messing around at the side of the boat. It was either a small ski or a decent sized pike. All in all a great day, a little wet but the fish didn't mind.

Well I decided to drown my sorrows with a couple of Panther Martins in a local trout stream. Flicked a 7/64th ounce besides a log that was right below me and low and behold a monster brownie comes shooting out, grabs the spinner and the battle is on!! I had to get a bit wet, but I had 20inches of beauty, just shy of 2lbs on the bank besides me. The hook was taken out and she went back in as soon as possible. I sat there on the bank with the biggest grin on my face I've had in a while. Biggest fish before this that I've caught in this stream was maybe 8 inches. What a night!

I just called the old man and told him we are hitting the water rain or shine Sat. He said 'ok' :) Thanks for the motivation guys, I don't know if I am in a slump or what, I think all that time tossing lures for ski's in the French got me down a bit.

You guys are right *%&$ the rain. I feel like I'm in a slump, lol
